Suggested map revamp: Ancient Greece

Well, I started playing some more games on the Ancient Greece map and I think it's kind of in need of a graphics overhaul. The armies aren't always on the territory, the names are skewed all over the place and the colors kind of hurt the eyes.
It's not in terrible order, like say Brazil was before the revamp, but it could use some polishing, life and flavor.
While it's probably too soon considering voting isn't done on Germany 3, but I think the Foundry ought to consider a competition some time in the future for the graphics only revamp of the Ancient Greece map.

I personally think it is worse off than Brazil. I didn't mind Brazil before. How does one get permission to revamp?

Also, the xml could be fixed a bit, the army number look pretty off center in some places.

A revamp was begun by the original artist back in 2008 (it was covered by the Foundry Newsletter for a good bit), but Mr. K was very demanding on what was going where and the rest of the foundry didn't like it. He eventually abandoned the revamp. He forbids anyone else to revamp his map.

Shouldn't the mapmaker license agreement cover situations like this?

What if the gameplay changes a bit, and his is not taken down?

Won't fly. New maps need to have "significantly" unique gameplay...

It doesn't, since the mapmaker retains the rights to the map, which is only fair. I agree with the overall sentiment that it's a map that could very much do with a graphics overhaul, but if Mr K doesn't want it revamped, then that's that I guess.

That sorta happened already, hence qwert's Peloponnesian War map.

I mean, like change a little bit, but it would still be a standard gameplay map set in ancient Greece.

I dunno.... probably wouldn't be unique enough. Someone could think about doing a modern Greece map with different gameplay. Could be a touristy kind of map that ties both ancient and modern elements. Just a thought.

The situation has already been summed up pretty well:

There's not a lot else to discuss... [locked]
