Map Limitations

I am coming up with some ideas for a new map, however I have never created a map so I am unfamiliar with the "behind the scenes" portion. I'm sure I can learn enough XML to make a map, however I have a question for all of you veteren map builders.

I want to make a map where you cannot enter a country until you occupy a different country. Now these countries are NOT adjacent to each other, nor do I want to "teleport" or "jump" from one country to another. (I know that is possible).

I want to create a country, call it a key. This key would be linked to a country/continent and you could not attack into the country unless you had at least one army on the key.

Thanks in advance!

that can be done pretty easily..., but, do you want no1 to be able to start on that country (the one that needs the key) if so that may not be possible...

a player would have to start on the key and a player would also have to start on the country. , the key would just be another country, (for the actual xml, it doesn't matter wheter the countries are adjacent, or even on the map, as long as you can name it and have a place for the army coordinates)

That IS a teleport or jump if I understand you correctly. Basically thats nothing special just another bit of XML. Youc could make it a one way border so you could only attack the continent from that one 'key' territory, and that continent couldn't attack the 'key' back...

It's not really a jump since the key would not be able to attack, defend or fortify to the countries in question.

As long as it's possible I'm going to keep working on my map a little more, then I'll post for ideas. I just really want to contribute to the great community here at CC.

you could have it that it cant attack anyone else, but then people would have armies stuck. (if they fortified them ther)

so are you saying it would go like this

country 1---> key
^
| ( needs key to create attack route)
v
country 2

then i'm not sure it would work...

you could have

country 1---> key ---> country 2

give us an idea of what you are trying to do exactly, including any pictures, and we'll offer you more help.

I think I get what you mean...

For example in the classic map there would be no border between siam and indonesia (so no way of attacking australia).

The only way you could attack aus would be if you held a key territory, for example make it greenland, but that territory itself has no border with australia. You just have to own the key to be able to attack the continent from Siam.

Is this what you mean? If so no I don't think its doable.

I don't know if this is what you mean or not, but it leads me to think of a pretty interesting idea.

You could have a map filled with territories that cannot attack, they can only be attacked. Of course you would have lots of normal territories as well, but it would be interesting because any armies placed on those territories at any point would be 100% defense.

You could even create regions or continents that could not attack others. Imagine the classic map with siam-indonesia being a one way border. Once you break into it you are stuck in there! That could make for very interesting game play. Because if you give the territory a relatively high bonus, people would want to break into it. But if you have to go across the one way borders before breaking the continent your men would be stuck in there until someone else would decide to break your area.

Hmmm, I like this thought!

It is an interesting thought Sully... was thinking along those lines myself... Don't know how I'd implement it though. Would have to be a good map concept to work around.

Shhhh! :-$

Me and a friend had this idea months ago. Its supposed to be an inferno like continent in one future project we are creating (but at initial steps, because im busy with other projects now).

This is exactly what I mean.
Here is my general idea, I'd really like to use the 2210 map, I think it opens up a lot of options and strategy. However, without the ability to have the commanders, it really just turns the world (and moon) into one huge cluster.

My idea is mainly for the water territories, to access the water territories you would have to occupy an "Aqua Base" (or something cooler sounding). So you could only invade water territories if you occupied a country that had an Aqua Base on it. There would be a limited amount of Aqua Bases in the game. For example, one on each continent, except possibly South America and Australia (they are small), it would take play testing to sort out the map exactly, but you get the general concept. Also, the game would start with only neutral players occupying water territories.

But before I work on the map anymore and posted it, I wanted to know if this type of thing is possible with how CC is currently setup.

No, that's not possible.

Thanks Sully, and everyone else who responded.

This is also not possible I think. All territories are randomly devided to the players.

How about a color wheel sort of? Like, this is real basic:

Image

To get the blue bonus you'd have to old everything in the blue circle, to get the red bonus you'd have to hold everything in the red circle, etc.... it'd be bigger.
