Map Description Suggestion

There have been many complaints about how the new batch of maps play or there may be a story behind the maps that gives them a little more character (Age of Might for example).

I know there was a suggestion that a thread be made to hold all of this data. The problem with that is that it is not directly connected to the maps.

I would like to suggest that on the map select screen, a little info text link would show up below the name of the map. That way anyone can find the info when they are looking to chose a map.

Map info could include:
    Date Quenched
    Map Artist(s)
    XML coder(s)
    Concept Artist(s)
    Story behind map
    Special features
    Game play Explanations
    And so on

Well What do you think? If you vote no please explain.

This would then just be another requirement for the final quenching of a map but I don't think it is that much more work and it would help eliminate some of the issues the foundry has had with the more complicated maps lately.

this was discussed at length in another thread recently - possibly in General Discussions. With the ever increasing number and complexity of maps this is desperately needed.

Such a description should also include the mapmaker's suggested number of players - I feel for the noob who joins a six player assassin Doodle game and never gets to take a turn!

I agree it is desperately needed. This is a good idea to have this link on the mapo selection screen and i support you there WM.

I would also like to see a link on the map play screen that links to a text file that provides some desscription of how the play might take place.

For example, not many knew on Pearl Harbour what the planes and artillery bombarment capabilities were capable of doing or for. (much to my dismay)

I'm definitely all for this...

It would be pretty easy to add this into the XML data... (i.e. have some extra tags at the top) although Lack may not want to read it from there so he may store it elsewhere...

the simple solution is stop making complex maps.

I guess this is a good sugar packet solution though.

looks like your not finishing posts again.

However i think a description area would be pritty good to have, It could also maybe have some map states along with it like current active games, complete games etc

That is a good idea. Lack could probably code it into the description to read the number of active in the data base.

Should this be moved to the Suggestions forum now that we think it's a good idea?

If it goes ahead then I think that we should make it a requirement for all newly Forged maps to provide this info before Quench...
