I agree, the problem is we are still stuck with the current size requirements. As far as I know getting to make maps larger than 840x800 requires a policy change from lack.

There are a few bigger maps that should show up after the xml update, Iraq! and Prison Riot! (Prison Riot being especially large territory count wise) so hopefully that will happen soon.

I agree but we have serious size issues. The only solution I can think of right now is making the small version hideous but functional.

The way I'd do it is army circles and names only with the legend. Cut everything else out. Then make the large version as good as possible within the guidelines. Unless I can persuade the higher ups to allow more maps that break the current size restrictions.

If i remeber corretly the size restriction discussion was going to be taken back into consideration ONCE 8 player games where introduced. Im pritty sure it was andy himself that said that.

Well, every week they ask the moderators to check in with issues for the week and every week I bring it up.

It isn't the top of the list though, there are some site bugs lately and those always come first, and then I think (note, I really have no clue) lack/Twill are updating the forum code, and after that maybe xml updates and information pages.

Maybe after that they'll get to size restrictions.

Indeed, but I also said most likely that it' all not going to happen until Lack can rework the interface to allow for more gameboard space. ;)

yes but it doesnt hurt to kick start the discussion again. I dont believe that reworking the interface but changing the resolution that hte site works best would be sufficient.

Right now on my moderate level laptop a screen resolution of 1024x768 is fairly low. If the homepage was changed to say C worked best at 1280x800. Then small maps could be made te same size as 2.1's small and still fit comfortable on the screen.

Also 2.1's small is mroe than enough space that would be needed to start making 8 player compatable maps. so a res of 1280x800 would probably be to much.

i don't understand the fear of scrolling. so what if a map is 2000*2000? scroll everywhere

I don't either. As long as we have some way that people will know they would need to scroll (even info pages would be good for this, we could make it an orange feature) I don't see the issue.

Its a matter of preference. I dont mind a little scrolling as long as its not to extreame. Im sure lack has the idea that the less scrolling the more people he can keep happy. Thats just democracy for ya ;)

I think adding Scrolling as a 'Gameplay Feature' for the Information Pages once lack picks them up could solve this.

Sure, people that won't look at the Info Pages would still be surprised, but like they say, you can only lead a horse to water, making them drink is a different matter.

Scrolling - This map is larger then the standard 630x600 small and 840x800 large dimensions so some scrolling may be required to view the entire map depending on your resolution.

As far as how we would go about allowing it in the foundry though is beyond me. I don't like the idea that people just run around building giant maps just to build large maps. I think making some sort of territory count to pixel allowance correlation would be reasonable.

Or you could just trust Andy and my judgment on a case by case basis...

Or we could be really freaking mean, "You need to build 3 standard sized maps before we will allow you build larger maps."

resonable scolling isnt a porblem, but having a 2000x2000 map would be a little adsurb. The chances of missing something in a map would be greater. Remember not everyone is as observant and well educated as yourself :)

Understand.

If I remember right a lot of the concern was a lack of these standard sizes provides players with a speed advantage in freestyle if they have better resolution monitors.

Although with the clickable maps mod (you should see people good with it move, it's scary as all hell fast, I've seen 3 to 4 attacks a second) I think that battle has been lost already.

if they aren't paying attention then they don't have to play that map. it could even be in a separate category. insanely HUGE maps. warn people that they will scroll at their own risk. nobody is forcing you to play a map you don't like.

Or part of the information pages like I said earlier. Since they will be implemented when we have them done and Twill/lack has the time to code them in.

Insanely huge maps probably won't make it. Don't push your luck...ask for too many presents and none may come at all!

i dont really think the foundry asks for much, the only thing i recall that the foundry really wants is a moderate size increase. :)

If a cartographer wants to build a Huge map which would require a little scrolling, then why not. Even say 100 people like the map and could put up with the scrolling then i think it is worth it. No one is forcing players to play maps they dont like.

Scrolling - This map is larger then the standard 630x600 small and 840x800 large dimensions so some scrolling may be required to view the entire map depending on your resolution.

In that case, mine map can be quenched these moment, because you can see all map and attack buton without scrolling.

yes but you must be using a higher resolution than the CC recommended.
