map without continents?

With maps getting more and more complex, I'm toying with the idea of going the opposite direction and making a map that strips away the complexity - what would you all think about playing a map that had no bonus regions (continents)? Just a slug-fest to carve out some territory and expand strategically?

Maybe it's a crap idea, but I'd love some feedback.

Could be interesting. However, unless it had some really clever gameplay, you may just end up wit the result being determined by the dice. Also, no bonuses would mean almost no reason for attacking your enimy when defending would be more effective for you, leading to deadly long games.

I was thinking exactly the same, but i dont know if it would work out in flat or no cards though...
It would surely be interesting for escalating games, but it would actually be the same as having an option to turn continents "off" on any given map...

The bonuses would be for holding territories - I guess it would be better if you lowered bonus to +1 for 2 instead of 3 - to get the game moving?!

I like this idea, like Balsiefen said it would need some really interesting gameplay for people want to play it. Would it be possible for a player to begin with say 10 pre set territorys?

So kind of Circvs Maximvs-esque?
Or something that looks more like a 'regular' map?

I'd rather have something else besides just a big set of territories.

A Big mess of countries, with no continents to fight for?

our idea, about 20 people came up with it independently. It's in high demand, I sent him a personal message and hope to get a clearer response on if we can do starting positions after his next xml update or not.

no, not at all. There would be no strategy! Maybe a map with one bonus, but not 0/

We could create strategy in layout. And the strategy would be getting lots of territories in an easily defended way so that you can get more to deploy.

I was thinking about a possible map to fit this idea earlier:
There could be a central courtyard with burned out cars or other stuff to break it up and not just make it a field of territorys. There then would be 4 houses with maybe gun turrets or sniper rifles inside which would be able to attack a 3 territories infront, but some territores would have cover and offers would have craters from explosions where you were safe. Along with guns you could have a window in which you can throw fragmentation grenades with would bombard the territorys.

Perhaps if you made the map strategic in the way where it becomes beneficial to hold certain points on the map: bottle necks, or strangle holds, it would be effective. Otherwise, it won't be strategy so much as luck.
