New idea for playability

Postby sully800 on Fri Aug 04, 2006 11:56 pm

As much as I like the Map Foundry I feel strongly that people continue making the same maps again and again. 42 or so countries, roughly 6 continents with bonuses ranging from 2-7. All replicas of the classic map just with different names. (Jota has taken some good creative licenses and I appreciate that)

So here's an idea of how to change up the playability. We already have a map with no continents, so how about a map with a TON of continents. Have all the countries in groups of 3-5 so you can have 10 or so continents all with a bonus of 2 perhaps. I think it would be very interesting to play on because you would have so many options of where to concentrate your forces. And the tactics would be different because you wouldn't worry when a person got a single continent, but what about 2 or 3? Basically I'm just looking for something DIFFERENT.

I myself am not a cartographer or haven't been at least, so I am offering this idea up to anyone who already has an idea for a map. It's simple to implement and the rest of the process would be pretty much the same. At least your map would have something that makes it stand out instead of being another classic map in the shape of your personal state or country or something you read in a book

Someone was working on a map like that here: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2328. No progress for a while though.
Taking an enemy on the battlefield is like a hawk taking a bird. Though it enters into the midst of a thousand of them, it pays no attention to any bird other than the one it has first marked.

I hear what you are saying ....and your right , in a way .....but I think kinda the opposite .....maybe something with big continent bonuses so if someone got a continent , you would have to get them out of it , instead of saying ohhh its only a bonus of two or three i can wait a couple of rounds ............i think it would make a more aggresive game like indochina but on a little different twist ..........I tried but I too have limited skill with the map making .....

Yeah I agree kwolff I like the idea of a few very important continents too, kind of like the center in the tenochtitland map they were working on. The Valley of Wonders map does indeed look like a good change from the ordinary....hopefully someone will work on it again! :D
