I think it would be more offending to try to "sweet talk" and show the history as a happy-happy-joy-joy-thing that it was not. Renaming slaves as "workers" would belittle the sufferings of the slaves and imply that slavery was "ok".

It's kinda like how the nazis called their murdering centers "concentration camps".

Then again, some people would rather pretend history never happened, but if we forget we cannot learn from their mistakes.

There is a reason I have you foed. But that is for a different thread.

Germany had NAZI'S and Swastika's. Lets promote that part of history too. Lest we forget. :roll:

I know, and it is that you're a whining little :geek: who makes it his business to get offended for things that were not meant as offenses to anyone. Hooray for you.

BTW If you have me foed, how come you're responding to my posts?

Germany had NAZI'S and Swastika's. Lets promote that part of history too. :roll:

Yeah, wouldn't you love to live in a world where you could pick and choose history and science, according to what fits your worldview.

Ps. Swastika is a far older symbol than the nazis. It was used by the buddhists since thousands of years ago as a symbol for good fortune. The name swastika is actually from sanskrit, "su" = "welfare" + "asti" = "he is". Have you ever considered how your equating the swastika with the nazis might offend buddhists?

Huh. My equating the swastika to Nazism? Uh. I do not recall choosing that. I believe Adolf did. I spose you can blame me for that if ya want.

But any who. Happy New year all. May most of you continue making fine maps and contributions to the foundry process.

Anyway, let's keep the history & political correctness debate off this thread... there are better forums for it.

This thread should be about the map Jamaica, so allow me to reiterate where we were left before someone decided to derail the topic:

The starting points (the ships) in the map are in the form "Spain, Columbus" and "England, Morgan" but in the XML they're the other way around: "Columbus, Spain" and "Morgan, England". This is kinda confusing. Sure, it's not a big deal, but it'd be a lot easier to find them from the drop down menu if they were named the same way in the map and in the XML.

I have a gameplay concern, I'm playing in a game with my clan members, 5 people. Game 6187666 One of the players hasn't broken out of his starting point yet. Perhaps a higher autodeploy of 3 may be better for all the starting points? Unless the point is not to break out first turn.

Yes, not to break out on the first turn is one of the objectives of this map.
That way it stops peps from rushing into things too quickly...you know let the map grow on you, by the time peps do break out they might have some idea of what they need to do to build, since this is a build map. ;)

When it the fixed XML going to be uploaded. I want to play some more games on this map, but won't start any before the bonusses are correct. It is now to easy to get a high bonus, which isn't meant to be that way of course.

Ehh, when it's historically correct I think it's fine.

Well the statement historically correct should allow nazi symbols on maps that reflect that era. I`m Not surprised there is bias on this site . Typical liberal stance, offend some but not all.. This is exactly why, i ,along with a few of my fellow gamers will not renew there premium.

I changed the naming structure for the starting positions to match the map.

http://www.bigottergames.com/downloads/jamaicaV31a.xml

=D=

Code: Select all
<!--  Starting positions -->
<positions>
   <position>
   <!--  Player Start 1 -->
   <territory start="3">Holland - Blauvelt</territory>
   </position>
   <position>
   <!--  Player Start 2 -->
   <territory start="3">Calico Jack</territory>
   </position>
   <position>
   <!--  Player Start 3 -->
   <territory start="3">Spain - Columbus</territory>
   </position>
   <position>
   <!--  Player Start 4 -->
   <territory start="3">Spain - Esquivel</territory>
   </position>
   <position>
   <!--  Player Start 5 -->
   <territory start="3">France - Hamlin</territory>
   </position>
   <position>
   <!--  Player Start 6 -->
   <territory start="3">England - Morgan </territory>
   </position>
   <position>
   <!--  Player Start 7 -->
   <territory start="3">Portugal - Mota</territory>
   </position>

The debate about slavery / nazism isn't one for this thread.

Have you relabeled the territories or just updated the starting positions?

I just played my first JAMAICA and I find it great, mate !! Well done !!

I do, however, think you have to correct the attack point from Morgan - the arrow from ship goes to Royal Port, but it is Port Charles, that gets the landings. I have not read other players comments, so other players may have noticed !!

But a great game, mate !! Keep on the good work !!

Best regards

Mightor

Ships connect to docks... I think it's pretty clear.

Dolomite13...i am getting an error code from this xml and the file doesn't open properly in Firefox.
Possibly the reason it is not working in the XML Map Inspect.
Can you examine please. :)

Sorry you're confused Mightor....the sealinks shown as dots in the Port Royal inset at bottom of the map are the links to Galleon Harbor and Morant.
I did not show the arrow from England - Morgan to Fort Charles as i thought it would clutter up that map inset. It is clearly stated in the legend that "Starting positions have a home port (i.e. British (England) to Fort Charles", and also "Galleon Harbour and Morant connect to PR Docks via the sea"
I will put up an adjusted version 31 shortly for lackattack to upload so that this connection is clarified, hopefully.

Excellent. thanks dolomite13.

So from here....Version 31.
1. I have added the England to Fort Charles arrows to the Port Royal Inset so that there is no confusion about those landing points.
2. the large map still had Morant and Galleon Harbor connecting to fort rupert.... :oops:
3. i've changed the starting position text to England to Fort Charles on both maps.
4. i can see you've changed all the National names in the script

Change the "IE" comment in parenthesis in the "Start Positions" to read: "IE: England to Port Charles" instead of what it currently reads: "IE: British to Port Charles."

Also, wanna work on the wording of the very last rule? The "Standard 3 territory Bonus is N/A"

I donno.... Something like: "You do NOT receive the standard 1 troop for every 3 territory bonus".
