Re: After 1/2/3/4/5 minute speed games why not 24/48/72h cas

In reading this thread, the main reason that I see people voicing disagreement for is the following: What if people accidentally join a 72 hour game when they don't want to?

My response to this depends on who those "people" are:

people = freemiums with only 4 slots---Don't let freemiums play this, just like we don't let them play speed games

people = noobs---Two options: (1) have this be an "advanced" setting that ?s aren't allowed to play, or (2) (my opinion) it doesn't matter. As long as you don't let freemiums play it, the noobie premiums that you're concerned about can just go enter another game. Or they can enter 3 72 hour games instead of 1 24 hour game.

The other criticism was a worry about people fleeing the 24 hour games for the longer games. My response is (1) if this happens then it will prove that it was a truly desirable feature to implement. Should we not implement a feature out of fear that a vast majority of users will like it?! And (2) I don't think this will actually happen. There are well over 3000 games waiting for players right now, and each player has the option of creating their own games. If you want games on your settings, find them or create them. If no one wants to play your types of games ... well TS.

I hate that the longer round options (48hr, 72hr, 1 week) got mixed in with the shorter round option (12hr). I don't care for the shorter round option.

Longer Round Lengths

Postby gv1974 on Thu Aug 30, 2012 10:15 pm

I would like to have games with longer round lengths (36, 48, 72, 96, 120 hours) to be more comfortable sometimes.

To be honest, I don't see a reason to go above 72 hours. After that it get's ridiculous if there is someone who deadbeats. I honestly wouldn't want to wait 4+ days to see a person miss a turn, and wait a total of 12 days for that person to deadbeat.

Ok. But what abou 36, or 48 hours. Most people work, and sometimes they are tired. So, these pelo are restrained to a much lower amount of games per day, or even could not play ofr an entire day.

After thinking about it more and more, I would like longer rounds I think. Not more than 72 hours. I'm not even sure I want that long, but 48 hours would be great I think.

That's probably the best idea as that one is in "Submitted." LOCKING this one until I figure out what to do with these (merge maybe?)

I fully support this idea. Adding this option won't affect those who don't want to use it, so why not?

It makes it really difficult for someone to guage how much support the ideas have.

I, for instance, am totally opposed to 12-hour games but I could support 72-games. Should I post "I agree" and inadvertantly end up with an option I think is really bad, or should I post "I disagree" and sabotage what I think is a good idea?

I SPLIT out the 12 hour posts from this thread to make them two exclusive threads.

I dislike the idea. It is a setting I would never play and the more available settings to choose from, the less games for each setting there are available. I also don't see this adding much to the CC community/gameplay.

Re-suggestion: 48hr turns

Postby D4 Damager on Thu Oct 31, 2013 4:48 pm

Concise description:
  • 48 hours available as a round length

Specifics/Details:
  • Players would still be given 1hr to complete their turn
  • Yes, I am aware this has already been discussed in threads such as this one and this one. I suggest it again because I think (hope) the new site owner is looking for ways to increase the active user count.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:

  • This suggestion would make the site more appealing to three main sets of people:
    1) Those that are busy during the weekend (ie.. 90% of the populace)
    2) Those that cannot take their turns at a specific time of the day (eg. maybe they can only take their turn in the morning one day and in the evening the following day on a regular basis. Shift workers would be a good example here.)
    3) Established players that become jaded due to having to take a turn every single day. I have seen this mentioned a few times in the forums by ex-players that loved the site but just couldn't stay committed. I think this one is obvious, life contains many occasions where you suddenly have to go off the radar for a day or so.
  • So you would gain new players and cut down on old players leaving.
  • Seems like an easy thing to add, definitely low-hanging fruit if you want new features.

Well i cant say i disagree or agree because i do both!
The advantages are obvious and stated allready by you.
What i wouldnt like is to wait 48h for someone to take his turn.

Totally agree. I would say more, except you've already said everything perfectly.

I didn't realize that the original suggestion was Submitted; I assumed that it had gone to the Rejected pile.

Anyway, it's good that you stay on top of these things. :D

So in a world where everything is speeding up you expect to increase the user count by slowing the games down... Sorry m8 but your proposal will never work.
1. & 2. I'm one of those 90% that are not always available during weekends but I'm strongly against your proposal. How I'm managing to take my turns? Visit Third-Party Tools & Enhancements and there are practical solutions for playing this game on a mobile device.
3. Obviously you haven't played game that requires that you log in several times in 1 day... there are many of that type on the net and they have millions of users.

Most of online games on the net are 24 hours casual games or speedy as 5 minutes turns. For every online game that has 48 hours casual feature I can find at least 10 that have only 24 hour feature, and mine will have 100 times more users then ones that you will find.

So what if there are millions of sites that require you to log in a million times a day?

One of the biggest selling points of CC has always been that it's good for casual gamers, who have real-life commitments and can't schedule their lives around a game. 24-hour turns are good, but still sometimes they put you under a lot of pressure if you have a busy day. 48-hour turns would allow members to live their busy lives and still keep a presence on CC.

And, for those who are happy with 24-hours, those would continue to exist.

48 hours would be handy. I can not always get in on evenings now and find I regularly miss turns. Getting a sitter so regularly is aggravation. If the 48 hour option existed then the risk of turn missing wouldn't be so problematic.

Playing on a daily basis is established standard :)

This is on the first page: If you wish to play casually, a few minutes per day is all that is required.. Everyone that joined CC accepted those terms, and they are same as in any other game.

If someone doesn't have time he doesn't have time, you can propose 48, 72, weekly games even pause button, but he still wont have time, simple as that.
So your solution for those players is "complicate the games for those that have time"...

48 Hour Turn Option

Postby iamkoolerthanu on Sun Jun 15, 2014 7:09 am

Concise description:
  • When starting a game, you have the option to make 48 hour turns.

Specifics/Details:
  • If there is oposition for some reason, then we can do 36 hour turn

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Some people cant log on every day day in and day out..And to be honest once a day isnt even enough..Especially 1v1 games. I take my turns at night, before bed, and then the next day, if I log on at the same time, 24 Hour later, I have minutes left to take my turn. If it happens in many games, you get screwed, so I have to find a time throughout the day to log in

Thanks to any that can post here, good or bad comments appreciated, and you can change your poll vote at any time if something someone says makes you change your mind

I can see how this could be helpful for some who can't play every day for certain; I wouldn't use it but i see no reason not to accept this. people joining this kind of games know what they signed up for... but basically wait 6 full days if your opponent is deadbeating, that's the downside.
