Option to equalise first turn starts ( in game & start game menu)

Refer to the above

Specifics/Details:
  • There had been a fair amount of discussion on the first turn bias. Some limited measures such as the POLY settings are just partial solutions or even ineffectual especially with smaller maps.

Other private solutions such as voluntary deploy no attack first turns work on trust and sometimes the first turner inadvertently forgot this gentleman agreement rule. This also proves to have limited success.

We need something more robust if it is going to be effective and adopted universally. A simple solution could be
    A) to include an in game button for the first turner to offer to waive his first turn in favor of the 2nd turner. The 2nd turner reserves the right to decline it or not.

    and or,
    B) to include an option in the game start menu to equalise the number of first turns starts
.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:

Minimising first turn bias can improve the quality of gameplay and encourage players to play new maps but are otherwise concerned about the first turn bias. While not actually removing the bias, the above option can promote a more level playing field such as equalising the first turn starts or encourage players to tryout newer maps as explained below.

A: For example if I spot a player with a number of open games pending, I could discuss with him before hand for an agreement to spilt first starts. Say I am interested to play in 2 of his or her open games, and we agree to spilt 1 -1 first starts. Should the games start and I end up with 2 first starts, then the proposed in game button per option A above will allow me to waive my first turn in one game to him or her.

A 2nd example is, an experienced player may offer a less experienced player the first turn start. The above game option will allow players to waive his/her first start in favour of the less experienced 2nd turner. This offer could be attractive enough to encourage players to try these maps.

B:This 3rd example applies more for a series of games where the opponents have agreed beforehand just like option A. The difference is , opponent A & B agree to start a private game series , say 10 ( or however many) , & have first turns to be equally spilt between them. So this start game menu option will set the first starts for each to 5.

In summary, the power of this idea is that it equalises first starts in a series of games and its value is self evident. Besides that, when a less experienced player takes on a more experienced player, the in game option allows the less experienced player the option to benefit by receiving the first start waive offer from the more experienced player. This show of magnanimity can go some ways to mitigate some of the criticisms that are often leveled at more experienced players who are not necessarily predators trying to prey on the unsuspecting.

The above are just 3 examples and if such a proposal has not been suggested before, I would appreciate the community & CC kind consideration .

I think allowing one first deploy and the other first attack is also a partial solution.

As for scoring, take first turn advantage into account on the calculation.

As ViperOverlod said, you can agree beforehand that 1st player deploy without attacking.
Since in your suggestions, whether A or B it require the agreement of your opponent (agreement that you'll very rarely have, so this suggestions is only for an extremely few numbers of people playing 1vs1 together regularly). Not worth time to be implemented.

Also we should get rid of dice because dice are random and that is unfair.

The universe is inherently unfair. Really, there's no point in doing anything. You're going to get fucked over, one way or another.

I don't think there is much you can do to equalize first turns. If a 1v1 and both start with 15 territories and the first player is only allowed to deploy the second player is at an advantage if they attack and conquer a territory.
