Nut Shot's Historical Player Rankings

Postby Nut Shot Scott on Fri Feb 26, 2021 1:09 pm

There's another thread for the active player rankings. This is for historical player rankings. Like the current season, these are more of a power ranking that takes into account the data that is available. Win %, Home Wins, Away Wins, Home Losses, Dubs/Trips/Quads Wins and a luck factor have been calculated. If you look at the bottom tabs of the below Google Sheet, you'll see an All Time List that has everyone who completed a season along with their best finishes in some key categories as well as an All Time Top 10 List for score, per game score and win %.

Completed Seasons:

CL9
CL10
CL11

Interesting.

I always thought that league favored specialists more than cup does, but maybe its not so skewed.

I donā€™t think so, I think itā€™s pretty easy to send maps that you have specialists on for each one with 8 game sets so if you play away maps you face a specialist. In a 24,27, or 30 map exchange itā€™s more difficult. I know for us if we have a specialist on a map they take it, but if we donā€™t I usually get drafted (Iā€™m above 55% away games).

Itā€™s possible that my experience is not what most people experience though.

My little system attempts to reward the all around player - away wins are very valuable and home losses sting - so if you play a balanced schedule and win, you'll be ranked high. If you only play home games as a map/settings specialist, you might win 75% of them but it will hurt you in the scoring due to the lack of variety. So I tried to kind of make it rather difficult for a specialist to be rewarded for specializing.

how is it more difficult? you're still going to use 99% the same maps in the League as you do in a regular war so at least from a home map perspective, you'll play all the same specialist maps as usual minus 1 or 2 if you know don't favour your team over the opposing clan's on that particular map. same for away games, it's rare a clan doesn't have a team for every map these days.

So are you hurt if you donā€™t take home maps and only do aways and do better then expected?

That would depend upon on how you expect to fair on a home map. The real issue would be that you're not playing half the games. Tough to compete score-wise in these rankings with a player who plays 15-20 more games than you and plays halfway decent.

There is precedent for doing the rankings to get a medal after certain length of time keeping it up / level of regular effort.

CL11 had 9 clans. There were 9 rounds but each clan had a bye round and only played 8.
So Max 48 games.

Good looking out. I shall adjust accordingly - I wasn't paying attention to that, really only looked at # of rounds ha

I'm not surprised to hear that, as I said in the other thread I thought I was very good in CL8, but he was something other worldly.
