[*]territs in the official language of every country
[*]People from other countries can read the names of the territs and pronounce them
[*]And it just looks better how would a belarussian know where Montréal
is we could write Манрэаль [pronounced Manreaĺ] and then he could say Manreaĺ and know where Манрэаль is.

I see that there could be a point in this when it comes to countries, e.g. Belgium would be Belgique to a French-speaking player. However, names of cities, towns, provinces etc. (e.g. Montréal) are usually the same, regardless which language you speak. It may look different, of course, if your alphabet is a different one.

Is multiple-language gameplay required? Can this be implemented technically in existing maps and in the coding? I don't know, but I might fear that the demand for this is not strong enough to warrant the efforts it would take. CCers from Russia or China probably don't find it difficult to read the captions on the maps - if they did, they wouldn't have arrived at conquerclub.com in the first place.

I am also a little concerned that translating names of countries or regions in CC maps would stir an unnecessary fuss where differences of language more or less reflect different views on contentious political issues. To give you an example: what would Macedonia be called in Greek? (The official Greek position is that no independent nation by the name of "Macedonia" exists).

Any thoughts?

This sugg is based on your Sao Palo - Montreal spelling complaints.

The XML work on this would be huge and be of any value to only an extreme few.

NO. All xml efforts should be towards new map creation only.

btw. Your pal saxi is only toying with you...

Gang, this is a major initiative for Tony and me. It could be a bit cher but it's necessary to embolden our sense of diversity and fair-play. If you would like to help, the best way is providing aid to defray some of the costs that will be involved.

If you are interested, please PM either Tony or me a major credit card number (be sure to include expiration date, security code and home billing postal code).

Let's get together and make this happen, gang.

Sorry, saxi doesn't marry anyone after...well, he doesn't like to talk about it. Also, the position of mistress is still taken by Es if I'm not mistaken.

LMAO! I think my girlfriend, Esmerelda, might get jealous if she were to hacksaw my CC account and find such a proposal! LOL! But if you'd like to come to my annual Christmas orgy this December you're welcome to hang out with ol' Saxi then (provided you're 25 or younger). Es and I have a "once a year no jealousy" policy for anything that happens during my Christmas orgy.

And before you get any dirty ideas, all that happens at my Christmas orgy is a lot of carol singing, tree lighting and baking sugar cookies!*

* and some DP, handies, BJ's and bukkake

That rule doesn't apply to ladies.

We might waive it for you, too, but you'd have to do some things of which you might not be very proud.

Not necessarily. Koln is Cologne, for instance.

This seems like a nice idea...lot of work, though, as well as potential problems with programming based on country-of-origin (I lived in Germany for six years, but speak English).

No one understands Germans. They are very difficult to figure out. I lived with one at university and I never figured him out.

How is this helpful? I can't pronounce everything on the Nordic map, but it doesn't affect gameplay.

Depends on what level of understanding you want. I'm pretty good with what I refer to as "grocery store German", but outside of that I start sinking fairly quickly. My point is that it's not unusual at all for someone to be based out of a country for which their understanding of the primary language there is very limited. For that reason, I think this could be a problem.

How would the Russian who knows no English even be able to use the site productively in any way, tonbomorphew...are you suggesting that the whole site should be broken out into every language?

i hope if it does, that you are able to pick which language you want it to show in. I would hate if CC was in spanish

I'm pretty sure this wouldn't work. You could do (a TON of) XML work to make it appear correctly in the drop down menus below the map, but the map is just an image. The army counts are not part of that image, that's what the XML's are for, so that the computer knows where to place the armies on the background map image.

So basically, the territory names on the map can't be multiple things for different languages unless you actually made like 50 map images for every map, and had it coded so that each one would appear correctly based on user choice.

That is a TON of work, maps already spend months in the Graphics Workshop, now you're basically talking about doing that 50 times over. This is not a plausible suggestion.

ps- you should probably get a foundry mod in here to confirm I'm right, but I think I am

The territories don't have to be multied just the map instructions!
