Optional Turn Shortening

Concise description:
  • Include an option in a speed game to shorten a turn to 1 minute. If all players hit the button, the period is shortened

Specifics/Details:

I think five minute rounds (with 2m add-ons after elims) is about right, but there are many maps, and many situations where you spend four minutes tapping your feet. In an 8 player elim, this can be even higher (I've waited out 8 minute turns on esc doodle for example). Rather than mess with turn times, you could have an option to immediately shorten to 1 minute remaining if everyone agrees. This should result in faster games, less pointless waiting, and happier players!

I did see that thread, but this suggestion is a bit different. Turns would still be 5 minutes, you would just have the option of shortening any given turn to a minute *if all the players agreed*. That gets round quite a few of the problems in the thread you linked to with people worried about latency. It's really just a way of making the boring turns where everyone is waiting until the end less boring.

but surely if you are waiting for someone to play for 4mins that person wouldn't agree to a 1 min round?

Also if everyone agreed to a 1 min round they wouldn't be making you wait the four mins they would be taking their turn quickly anyway?

So how would this change anything?

Hi, I'm not sure how much freestyle you play, but all the action happens at end of turns. Usually people wait for 20s left before going for eliminates/bonuses. Generally, the winning player in freestyle is the fastest won who moves last. There are countless speed freestyle games where the players are all waiting for the end. Not because they -want- to but because it's the smart thing to do. This suggestion is designed to address this situation where all the freestyle players are sat around waiting for the business end of the turn, and it's a dead 4 minutes.

If you're such a fast player you might consider playing more than one speed game at a time. I know that a lot of the fast players do that. I've tried it myself but it's not for me :( !
