Newbies Section

Hi,
Apologies if this has been suggested before.
Would it be possible to create a separate 'newbies' section for those who first join CC, to allow them to have their first three games with whoever wishes to take the chance playing them (the chance being that they may deadbeat) or other newbies, and them allowing them to play with 'established' players once they have completed three games? It would stop a lot of the annoyance that many of us feel when we have to wait three days for people to be chucked out of a game once they realise gaming is not instant.
Thanks, Emily

We're actually currently discussing something very similar. Would love to hear opinions on this concept.

a very good idea, though maybe you could have a team of experienced players who join some to help newbies along and answer questions they might have

Not that I am the best player in the world, but I would be happy to give advice to newbies, if it meant that those who just join and disappear, and ruin games for others, are weeded out!!

yes deadbeats would be a potential problem. I was thinking a min. number of games completed to weed those out. Seems most deadbeats are people who join 1-4 games and never complete any.

You could also set up a mandatory game.
like the private section, however ths is the reverse.
You get to join in 1 game, standard, sequential, flat rate, adjecent.
you dont get acces to the other game untill you have completed this game.
now if you give people a chance to play thiese games even if you are in 4 already, AND you get gain 5 points regardless of wether you win or loose, and you will ensure that there are always peeps ready to play a newb.
basicly you get to restrict the maps and options till someon shows hecan finish a game. you set a small reward to play noobs, and the only complaint you will be hearing is that not enough noobs join. lol

I'm not so sure that would be the best idea, most newbies who deadbeat leave because they can't handle the slow pace of only 4 games...lots of them want to play lots of turns right now and when they cant they get bored and move on.
but I agree some sort of "weeding out" and "safe zone" from the people who would otherwise just steal points is a good idea in some form...

How about special "teaching" games, open to all, but no points are awarded or subtracted and it would not count against your game total (but there would have be a max # per person)? Experienced players are encouraged to join and help out newbies, who can basically "practice". Some sort of surrender/kick-out feature would be helpful just in those games to get rid of deadbeats.

making all noobs play with just noobs is going to lead to a big drop in new members overall.
If your first experience on this site is to possibly play a game with 5 people who don't turn up and it takes 120 hours (worst case scenario) for your go isn't going to work.
If that was my first game on the site - I'd never come back.
New idea needed imo

did you actually read all the responses Pedro? We're talking about having experienced players join in and filtering out deadbeats.

I believe this problem (partly anyway) can be solved by having an option when you create your game that allows you to choose the amount of "turns allowed" before being kicked out!
This would make all deadbeats, beginners or not, to accept the current rule of game and no one will get angry with eachother and everyone can play C.C in their own tempo. So lets say that one gametype might be kicking players out after 1 missed turn, another after 4, that will be more suited for different players vary of needs, grade of engagement and so on.
There is another thread about deadbeating for anyone who´s interested!
/Peace

I wonder if it is more the website has to be clearer regarding the gaming. Even possibly having further instructions/popup or whatever to clarify the game. Followed by an email making it clear.
Certainly i've been in a game where a new player has thought it is starting instantly and got frustrated when no one has done a turn for x hours.
