I would say that the "remember me" box is the way to go, with this suggestion. It might also have the slight side effect of discouraging multis, since they'd have to actively log out to log in as a different member. Heck, a lot of logging out and in could be a flag for multi hunters, I dunno.

Can the title be changed back to the original title that actually describes the suggestion? If i hadn't created this thread I literally wouldn't click it because extending the timeout time is not a great idea.

I have this issue and it is most prevalent on my phone. I like to check things when I can't get to a computer and logging in on a phone is definitely not fun. Some people may not run into this issue, like rdsrds2120, because they stay logged in via Live Chat and just forget they are on while they play video games and come back two hours later and are still logged. :)

I personally like this idea and would love something to happen with it. I don't really play games but lurk on the forum.

I cannot fathom why this is not already an option.

Hell yeah!

I agree completely with nryan115, this is such a simple thing and is present almost everywhere else, yet not here and it drives me mad. I regulalry check the site on my phone at work to make a move and logging in every time is excrutiating. Logging in every time on my home computer is less of a hassle, but still a regular annoyance.

Yes, I could use a password manager of so0me sort, but I don't want it to tell me my password, I want it to remember me from cookies. It's that simple.

I also agree with Nryan115 on how this is likely an issue for many more people than you realise. I only came to the forums because I saw this thread, this is likely my first post. I enjoy this site and the game we all play, but I wouldn't have posted at all if I hadn't seen this thread at random while looking for something else, but I feel this is such a simple problem with a simple solution that drives me mad when I have to re-log in every time I want to see if it's my move on my lunchbreak.

Maybe only you have access to that computer, but many people are sharing computers or using computers in public places. It's a huge security hole to have open pages accessible to random people. This is a really bad idea.

I don't see this as a risk at all. If someone is risking their own games by staying logged in, I don't think that's a giant hole in security.

It should probably be disabled by default for the reasons you mentioned, but it nevertheless should be an option.

Who do we blame when someone in an office comes onto a computer with CC logged on and decides that as he was not given the Christmas bonus to have a little fun. Even if that did not happen, we would get problems. Who is then accountable?

Exactly. It's the user's choice to stay logged in. And their mistake if they do not log out.

So now we do not need to log in all the time, just have to remember to log out, and then back in.

Seems like more work for some of us. ;)

No. There would just be a check box IF you want to stay logged in. So, it's only one more click if you want to stay logged in. Otherwise, no more work for anyone else.

I was killing some time looking over my old posts after being largely inactive on CC for a long time. I see this thread has picked up some steam. That's great.

@nryan115: I believe i was the one who started the thread that merged with this one, after which point I endorsed your points completely. To be clear, the timeout I was talking about for that thread is equivalent to the timeout in the "keep me logged in for X days" checkbox. It's the X days I wanted much longer, although I did not propose the checkbox at the time. The checkbox is a better way to get the much much longer X days accepted by all. So yes, the threads are fairly similar.

Is this still alive? Was about to post this suggestion but searched first...

This seems pretty easy to implement, and would be very useful for those of us who come to the site many times per day...

This is still alive. The owner and admin implement things in the order they deem best, so this hasn't made it yet.

Increased auto log off

Postby JustCallMeStupid on Thu May 01, 2014 10:31 am

Concise description:
I dont know what the log off time is, but can it be increased or can there be an option in settings were we can set it to never auto log off or make the time like 1 to 2 hours?

Specifics/Details:
See description
Alternative idea, is before leaving a forum page a pop up will tell you that you have logged off

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
If one has started responding in a forum, and has to leave their computer for a short period and then comes back to finish a response. When they hit send all of that hard work is gone and cant be recovered, you cant go back and copy paste what was worked on. Everything has to be rewritten and it is frustrating when it is a detailed explanation of something.

That problem has occurred to me twice, but there's an easy solution:

Whenever you feel that you've likely been logged out, then before posting, hit CTRL + A, CTRL + C, hit Submit. If you have been logged off, then login, hit back a few times, and ctrl + v your post.

I think we get logged off after an hour or so, so it's not that short. Just be mindful of what you're doing and take the possibly necessary precaution.

After many, many times of failing to do this, I now try to do this on every site that I'm at when making a lengthy post. If it's a really long one, I might even throw it a copy of it over to Notepad or something like that.

Now, couple of tips for you. First, if you are ever worried about it, simply open a new tab by CTRL+Clicking on one of the links around here. In the new tab you will be prompted to log in if you have been logged off. After logging in in the new tab, go back to the old one and hit Submit.

Second, sometimes--and I have no idea what controls this[/i] you can get back to your old message. If you ever Submit and see that you've been logged off, immediately open up a new tab or window in CC and log back in to the site. Then return to the old window and use the "Back" button on your browser. Sometimes your post will still be there. If you were responding using a "Quick Reply" then go down to the bottom of the page and hit "Quick Reply" again. Sometimes your message will still be there.
