Powers of the Inbox: How-To

With the advent of our new forum here at Conquer Club we have been given many new features that all of us can use to improve our global domination experience. However, some of the features in the new PM system are a little tricky to understand at first, so I present to you a helpful how-to that should go a long ways to easing your PM troubles.

Sending a PM to Multiple Recipients:

After opening a new PM as usual with the "New PM" button, you will notice the white box available to type in the names of the players you want to send a message to. Type in each name (remember to hit "enter" between each name) so that they appear on a new line each time. When you are done adding in all the names, click "Add" and then all you have to to is insert your subject and message before hitting "Submit"

It's as simple as that.

If you don't remember to press "Add" before you move on, you will not send the message to anyone and the boxes will all be cleared. Meaning you'll have to start all over. ;)

Blocking PMs from Foes:
While it is not a standard feature to have anyone on your Foe list blocked from sending you a PM, it is possible with the use of the new "filter system" that has been added to your Inbox. This will allow you to automatically delete messages from players you wish to have no contact from.

Follow these steps:

1. Go to Inbox and then click on the tab labeled: Rules, Folders & Settings
2. In the dropdown menu underneath "Add a New Rule" select "Sender" and hit "Next"
3. Once again in the dropdown, select "is foe" and hit "Next"
4. Lastly, select "Delete Message" from the dropdown and hit "Add Rule"

This will make it so that any messages you receive from a person on your Foe list are automatically deleted when they arrive.

Creating New Folders:

Some of us have reasons for multiple folders. Perhaps you want to have all incoming mail from your clan members sorted into one place, and all your mail from people on your Friends list into another. It's a pretty simple process really, and it will help you to keep track of messages you consider important. However, keep in mind that you can only create 5 additional folders and that each has a limit of 75 messages.

Follow these steps:

1. Go to Inbox and then click on the tab labeled: Rules, Folders & Settings
2. Underneath the "Folder Options" heading type in what you want your folder to be titled.
3. For the sake of demonstration I titled mine: Generation One
4. Hit "Add"

This will allow you to now filter messages into something other than your Inbox as they arrive. Below are the steps for filtering messages directly into your new folder. As I have created a folder for my clan/usergroup, we will use that as the demonstration:

1. Go to Inbox and then click on the tab labeled: Rules, Folders & Settings
2. In the dropdown menu underneath "Add a New Rule" select "Sender" and hit "Next"
3. Once again in the dropdown, select "is in usergroup" and hit "Next"
4. A new dropdown will appear. From there select your clan/usergroup. (Mine is Generation One)
5. Click "Next"
6. From the dropdown, select "place into folder --> (your folder name)"
7. Click "Add Rule"

You're done! It's that simple. :D

There are several other options on how to set up the rules and filters as well. You can have messages marked a certain way when they arrive, marked as read, set to move to a new folder after you have replied, etc. Take a few minutes to play around and see what you can make work for you.

These features are especially beneficial to anyone leading a clan, running tournaments, working as a member of Team CC, or who are having problems with being harrassed by other members of the site.

I hope it all was helpful!

Regards, Optimus Prime

One question about the filter to folders stuff.

Lets say I choose to filter all of my PMs i recieve from Spamalot members into folder X and all of the PMs from Digital Artists members into folder Y. What would happen if hecter (who is in both of those clans) sends me a PM? Would I get two of the same PM, having to open them both from the different folders, or would it default into one of the folders?

You know, to be honest, I'm not sure exactly what would happen with that waclimbing.

Care to give it a test drive and see what happens?

i was going to ask a similar question.where would it go if they were your clan and on your friends list ?

it doesn't apply to me as i am not in a clan and i have no friends  but one day i might [-o< and that would be handy to know.

Just to take a guess, I have no idea because I've never tried it, I'd say that the message would be filtered by whatever group comes first in the list.

Groups are ordered Admins>Mods>Usergroups>Friends/Foes I think (Usergroups are further ordered alphabetically for the most part, unless they have special powers assigned to them)...So, if someone is in clanABC, clanXYZ and a friend, I think they are going to get dumped into your clanABC folder unless you create a rule that says anything from "user A" goes to "folder B"

It definitely does not make 2 copies of it :)

Yep, looks like when I set up multiple rules it always follows the usergroup rule first.

Question for you. Is there a way to automatically select all members of a usergroup for a pm, rather than having to laboriously enter each member every time I want to send a PM to the whole group?

Thanks

neon, I think Dan wants to be able to send a PM to everyone in the group. If that is the case, the best way is to make a text document with each username on a new line or a spreadsheet with each username on a new line. Copy the list and paste it to the "To" section of the PM, then click "Add".

Not the 100% best way but I made a folder named "Admin"

If Sender is admin | Place in folder: Admin

Changing the default for dealing with new messages when your inbox is full works for this. Set it to hold new messages until you free up space in the inbox. That way you can decide which messages get bumped, rather than just losing the oldest ones.

When inbox is full, old messages get automagically deleted to make room for new ones.

depending on your settings
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/ucp.php?i=pm&mode=options
try to go to your inbox. look for [Rules, folders & settings] click it.
Here you can see what happens with your pm's (look on the bottom of the page)
e.g. mine shows Do not accept new messages (New messages will be held back until enough space is available) so i need to clear out pm's before new pm's get accepted, they will still stay in the system though, for how long i dont know, but pretty long... so when i delete pm's i make room for new once...
