Age of Realms maps

Postby flexmaster33 on Sun Mar 13, 2011 1:59 am

Heading into an MLS league where I will be facing a ton of Age of Realms opponents. I have tried and failed on these maps for a couple years now...no clue how to give myself a chance.

Anyone willing to share some tips?

AOR 2

1st turn it is not needed to attack, but can be a good thing, depending on dice and starting castle.
This are some of the basics and should not be strictly followed.
Some people tend to go thru villages directly to your castle.

Xi
Turn 1
Xi-Bisd-Barry Field-reinforce to Xi.
Turn 2
Xi-Oi-Mat-Yu-Basket Weaver

Borun
Turn 1
Borun-Yrake-Gold Mine-reduce Urt to 1-reinforce to Borun
Turn 2
Borun-Urt-Coin Mint-Haet

Mua
Turn 1 (or wait for turn 2)
Mua-Duisch-Aosa-Sler
Turn 2
Stack Sler
Turn 3
Go for castle

Ghyr
Turn 1
Ghyr-Ayr-Eon-Ikalu
Turn 2
Ikalu-Blacksmith-Yta-Iron Mine

Aoria
I am avoiding to start on this castle, too much neutrals,
just brake thru Ieme or Haet

Figye
Turn 1
Figye-Lof-Lumber Mill-reinforce Figye
Turn 2
Figye-Ost-Fylg-Log Camp
Turn 3
Go Xi or Mua

AOR 1
Stack and wait.
Try your luck.
Also you can make a false attack.

AOR 3
Not so experienced, but I mainly go for Runes.
Also from Sanctuary pick up Blood Water.

Hope it helps ;)

Luck has big influence on Age of Realms III. Usually divide your troops over two starting castles and try to obtain two runes. Both Ghyr and Mua may prove hard to start with. When starting on Sanctuary take some blood water territs, but keep a reasonable stack from round 2 and later. It's very easy to counter by deploying on sanctuary, take blood territ, attack village and counter.

In AoR II it's most important to break your opponent's resource pair. In AoR III you should kill his castles before his runes.
@ AoR II I personally like Aoria quite a lot since it's one of the few castles where you can take both resources in one turn.
In my opinion it is rather dangerous to attack in the first turn on any castle but Figye and Xi. Doing so gives quite a lot away about your position and there's a way to big chance you won't succeed to get where you want to get.

AoR I is rather easy, stack up for a few rounds and attack when you think it's wise (when you think your opponent has taken a village by example)

There's a well-written guide to the AoR2 map, I'm also fairly good at that map, and it all depends what setting you're playing. I have a set hierarchy for the castles if it's 1v1, and it goes like this:

1) Ghyr
-First two turns build on castle, then take Vesk and Ikalu (adv none), and if dice are nice go to Iron Mine (4 neutral) and maybe Blacksmith if you're lucky. Also the round you attack there, you'll have 9 on your castle to take another village. Do that. Next turn, if you don't have your resource pair, just take it and wait again. If you did take it, use log reading skills to make an educated guess of where your opponent is building.

2) Mua + Figye/Xi Combo
-Same thing as Ghyr, but take Aosa and Sler and one half of the Figye/Xi realm resource pair from Mua, then take the other half from Figye/Xi Castle

3) Xi
-First turn take Berry field, fort back to Xi. Second turn go for Basket Weaver while taking Mat. Also take a village from your secondary castle. Leave troops on Basket Weaver.

4) Aoria + Borun
-Use Borun as your assaulting castle. Wait ONE turn, take Coin Mint fort back, then take Gold Mine. (take village in secondary castle)

5) Mua
--Wait two turns, go for resource pair. Take secondary village from other castle.

6) Borun
--First/second turn (depending on dice) take one half of the resource pair. If you own Ghyr, take the one closer to there first.

7)Aoria
Take Butchery first turn. Build next turn, then go for rabbit farm. Maybe Dru if you have good dice.

8) Figye
I never choose figye as a starting castle. You can try if you want, but all of the villages in its realm are exterior ports which reveal where you are. A lack of village is bad.

It goes vice versa, if you now how to play then you can read the log.

You see the pattern of play and then you read the log to figure out where the opponent is.

thanks all...I'll try some practice games this week...AOR killed me in an NBA season tourney, but I have teammates in MLS and didn't want to let them down with my poor play on the map in MLS :)

you know, some of these general tips also apply to feudal epic and feudal war, if an opponent has conquered 7 regions (not bombarding them), then you know he has busted out of the 10 neutral block
