As I said recently, having this game more compatible with Cell Phones SHOULD help, if that can be achieved without TOO much lose of the complexity of this great game. Or have a "Risk Lite" that does match the Cell Phones better. That may be why we have some of those games under "Other Games".

is this a real question? this thread is one giant troll so i can never tell.

i play from my android all the time, i have zero issues unless you count map inspect, which i do not use with the exception of a few maps. but i can see how lack of an app is a potential bump in the road. i'll give you my not-at-all obvious professional opinion as to the areas of opportunity, in no particular order:

1. Lack of promotion/brand awareness
2. Low organizational support - disclaimer: i cannot imagine there is much actual positive cash flow coming from this venture at the moment so i do not blame anyone for putting it on the far side back burner.
3. Lack of "advocates"
4. Modernization/cell phone adaptability
5. New customer conversion and retention

5,900 down 100 in a week  .... That Northern hemisphere spring kicking in,lockdowns easing along with the vaccine drive I reckon.
Taking into account the general user nationalities/locations it's probably the reason,I imagine we'll be below 5,500 by the end of the month, which is good covid wise but bad for cc.....i know my preference.

i'll give you my not-at-all obvious professional opinion as to the areas of opportunity,

What does this mean? Not so obvious? The discussion of making this game and website easily played on a cell phone has been discussed for a few years, so that is an obvious issue, contrary to what it seems you are saying.

While on this quote of yours, what profession are you in?

is this a real question? this thread is one giant troll so i can never tell.

Have you read more than this page in this thread? It seems that you have NOT. And "one giant troll"? Again, it appears that you have not read much here on this very topic in this thread. This thread does not meet the definition of TROLL, imo. I have trouble following your logic or your line of questioning. They seem to be a set of stream of consciousness statements.

One more:
5. New customer conversion and retention

Do you know of the Guide Program? I was summoned to a Guide Game a few minutes ago.
https://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=774

Other ideas to retain new players have been discussed as well, but perhaps you are not aware of those discussions either.

3. Lack of "advocates"

And what does this mean? Again, you are not lucid in your suggestions. What are they to advocate? and for whom?

I do not see advertising for this site, but I am not aware of any such efforts or lack thereof, for sure. And I have not looked for such ads either. (#1)

As I said in this thread a few years ago, this is a small niche market on the Internet. There is not lots of young kids talking about this game or playing it. We are not the Fortnite crowd.

One final response, for now, on the previous page of this thread:

I think some possible reasons for this decline have been discussed in this very thread. I know I have offered a few theories over the past few years.

I think there are a few main reasons:

1) this game is not easily played on a cell phone (it is TOO complex);
2) the game does not appeal to those who grew up playing NES (or other such gaming systems) or video games with all the "Bells and Whistles";
3) the 24 hour wait is a turn-off to many younger players; it is TOO SLOW.
4) Many younger gamers never played the BOARD game Risk in RL and so this format does not appeal to them.
5) There are simply TOO MANY OTHER gaming options that offer # 1-2 and are JUS more appealing to the younger gamers.
6) Nothing is constant and this site must evolve to attract new players. I do not see the "Other Games" as a big draw to combat the decline.
7) People change; some come and some go, as in Real Life. Some leave, some return, and we add a few new players here and there.
8) The bump up due to COVID restrictions will not last. We have kept few from that bump; I am a Guide (and Super Guide, too) and have seen many NR GO and never return. SOME barely stay on CC more than 3 minutes.

I've read plenty. And plenty of it is trolling. Sorry you missed that. Asking if the question is real, is a real question.

What does this mean? Not so obvious? The discussion of making this game and website easily played on a cell phone has been discussed for a few years, so that is an obvious issue, contrary to what it seems you are saying.

While on this quote of yours, what profession are you in?

It means the things I listed are super obvious. That was sarcasm. Thought it was obvious (see what I did there?).

Small business development and management consulting with a background in sales management and entrepreneurship.

Do you know of the Guide Program? I was summoned to a Guide Game a few minutes ago.
viewforum.php?f=774

I have been a Guide. That is not an even remotely effective or organized effort. No offense. But it's better than nothing so that's good I suppose.

I am not privy to these discussions. I'd be interested to know what the best ideas are.

And what does this mean? Again, you are not lucid in your suggestions. What are they to advocate? and for whom?

I'm quite lucid. I just didn't expound on my opinions. Because I'm feeling friendly, here goes.

All businesses have prospects - here they would be freemies who drop in, give the site a user to tout if advertising were a thing and that's about it. Or someone who pops in and plays a guide game then never comes back. Let's call them "opportunities".

All businesses also have customers - these are people who provide money to the business. Here, it would be low activity premium members, players who purchase credits to play speeders, etc. Your transactional players if you will.

Now, not all business have clients but every business I've ever been a part of is striving to get them. These are your repeat paying customers who you have a relationship with. I would call your premium forum participants, repeat and active premium members, clan/tribe/tournament players clients - for the most part. There is a relationship there, there is something more than just monetary currency. There is emotional currency, time, those kinds of things.

To finally answer your question - "advocates" are one step beyond that. They're employees you don't have to pay. They talk about you and your business. They tell your story. They advocate for you (see?). These are... essentially nowhere to be found here. I'm not bragging and these are by no means original ideas - every business I've been a part of, I have started with this concept and every one of them has shown year to year % profit gains in the triple digits inside of 12 months. It isn't foolproof but it does work. Focus on people and good things happen.

Bottom line, the numbers are declining because people are not being driven here and the ones who are, are not being given any kind of incentive to stay. I'd be happy to get into more of this but not right now. PM me if you wanna have a real conversation, I have a cocktail to finish and a pork roast to eat.

In closing, if the site is a tax write off for the owner, awesome. If there is a desire to grow it, then make a plan and execute it. With the low revenues here, can't imagine it's a huge priority though.

Your response shows insight and is more coherent than the post I quoted. You may have thought it lucid (to you), and I hope so, but it was not so to me. So, thank you for your follow-up.

I understand the business model, at least on the superficial level you presented. Well, to be fair, you have a bit more in-depth discussion, but there were no real revelations there. Those statements do not answer the questions of how to
1) attract new players (other than ads or creating a "buzz" about this website; I think that Duk used that term earlier in this thread).
2) retain those players who do arrive to play. I have addressed some of the specific reasons why (I think that) new players do not stay to play.

I do not see your analysis or suggestions are a specific help to the situation. We know we need to attract and retain players.

BUT I am not management or the owner, so I am not the guy to make those kind of decisions to help the situation, other than to offer a few ideas and a superficial level of suggestions. Perhaps those "in power" can hire you or a consultant with your talents and insights.

As I stated, this is a very limited (or small) niche market. How many people do you meet that have even played Risk? I would say VERY FEW. So the business model for this website is not prone to LOTS of growth. I have also stated that other websites have VERY LIKELY seen declines in the past 15-20 years. I cited one other specific online game site.

There are are few sites that attract a huge following. Will they sustain that following in 3-5 years? Fewer do that, unless there is a "new and improved" version that keeps them returning. What percent of new businesses survive beyond one year? I think it is around or less than half.

The situation is like professional athletes. The attention is on the superstars, the Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and the Tom Brady types. BUT very few get to that level, the GOAT level. Many play for a while, make some money, and go elsewhere, as they leave the sport. What does NFL mean to many players? Not For Long.

With that said, this site is like the journeyman player whose career lasts the equivalent of 10 years and never make it BIG. But that guy plays and helps his teams win a few games.

The two most popular items on the internet are porn and astrology.

We have a policy against porn, but maybe we could start matching your dice to your star sign?

I still like the idea of Happy Hour when all the speed games are free for just one hour a day. Get new blood around here and get people hooked.

Foot Traffic

I know CC lives in the digital world but the business concept is the same.

Foot traffic is a term used in business to describe the number of customers that enter a store, mall, or location. Foot traffic numbers are heavily monitored by store owners in particular retail stores, such as department stores. Foot traffic is an important metric because higher foot traffic tends to lead to higher sales and revenue numbers.
