I think HAPPY is a stretch. It is a day of remembrance.

My dad recalls being 11 at the time. Everyone was crying. Peoria started a huge scrap metal and rubber tire drive. His mom was made an air raid warden. He loved to see the new attack submarines being brought down the river from Chicago. The first 6 months was constant bad news as the Axis overran everything.

I wonder how many people still think it was a surprise.
