General attitude towards new players

Hi everyone, as you can see I'm a new player. I quite like the game and enjoying the website. However I have encountered a lot of irony from the existing players and I am wondering if this is a general thing or is it just me being unlucky and playing against the wrong people.

I have received comments like "learn the game" (by definition, I signed up to learn the game...), "speed up" in a speed game of 2 minute rounds or players cornering me with 25 troops against 2 but deliberately not finishing the game for 3-4 rounds consecutively... What kind of attitude is this?? I don't want to miss turns to not get penalties or whatever but what's the point of someone forcing you to keep playing when you are 2 vs 25-30 troops...

Most of the times I'm not joining games myself, usually I create a game and wait for an opponent so as for the other people to see that they are playing against a rookie and, hence, I assume that they would enjoy playing against a new guy and, potentially, offer tips after the game. But even if I choose to play against a good player I don't understand why almost everyone behaves this way.

Deadbeat speed games people refuse to finish; they're douches, and there's no real penalty. If they try to claim you're intentionally deadbeating, you can just hit them back with the fact that they're holding you hostage; also, call them douches, so they are made aware.

In general, I ignore most chat these days, especially in FFA's. Most of it is 'why in the world would you hit me' and 'hey can we make an alliance where I'll hit you in the back eventually?', so it's not worth reading. Throw a GL HF on your first turn and a GG WP at the end; nothing else need be said.

Unfortunately, like everything on the web, we have our share of trolls. We do have a nice feature called "foe". If you "foe" an opponent it will stop you from joining any games they are in (tournaments excepted). It will stop them from joining any games you are in. It will not show you comments made by them in the forums (I highly recommend doing this). After you take care of "foeing" a few people only the nice people are left.

Also as said above, I highly recomment the SoC: viewforum.php?f=341
All the best of us are graduates. And there are some other nice people around.

Welcome, if no one else has said that to you.

Ignore that piece of advice from Kotaro. Deadbeating out of games is against the rules. There are plenty of friendly people on this site. And like Silly Knig-it said. WELCOME.
