CONQUEROR

Surely the 'conqueror' is the current best player yeh, well no the 'conqueror' plays a few games on tried and trusted settings. This is boring and although proven strategy amongst the highest ranked players, these are not the best but one trek ponies.
Have a tourney year long if u like, involving most maps and settings - this would earn respect and the winner ofc would have to of been lucky but a fitting 'conqueror' of conquer club.
The current conqueror is an egotistical charlatan, will be there for years and is about as interesting as a dogs turd.

Def not saying i would win, lack of patience will find me out. A few players like Don, josko, shoop, uckuki, Dkmaster and many others would be contenders.

you'll never have a ranking system that truly shows who the best player is. but anyone who actually cares about such things knows who the best of the best are, usually. there are plenty of year long tournaments and things. some are 1v1, some multiplayer. same old.

Agreed, but as it is the best player is the highest ranked which obv he isn't. Anyway forget it.

Well we do have championship that are supposed to do just that for a specific type of game.
They have flaws but are doing not such a bad job at it I would say.

Couldnt agree more. There should be some kind of minimum requirements - certain number of medals and/or games played in a given time period.

true. like sure you got the most points but unfortunately you're a nonce so we can't bestow you with the conqueror title, unlucky.

I don't know what the rules are, and frankly don't really care... but an activity minimum (like 3-4 games played or at least active every month) seems like a no brainier.

I do agree that the position of conquerer should be conditional (like... needs to have x number of maps and settings played in the past 30 days, that were not played in the past 90 days) to force them out of their "sure win" zone and prevent them recycling the same settings every month.

This would help prevent someone who is a map specialist from taking and hogging that position for years to come. All he has to do is farm more points on the same settings when he sees anyone getting close to his score. I don't think that should be happening.

I don't know the guy, so I'm not saying anything about Naruto as a person, but as a player, he's clearly a map specialist and not a good all-rounder. I would get so bored playing that many games on the same few maps. But, with the right mindset, and enough time, any middle of the road player could get to field marshall using the same method.

i think mc05025 should be conqueror then

gold cross map seems like a fair bar to set

just need confirmation he isn't a nonce first

I don't think so, above 4k points, winning 80% of your game against a major isn't enough to get higher. And even a map specialist has a hard time winning 80% of his game against a serious major. Especially when you have players like benga for exampe, he is a major, but no way you can beat him 80% of the time o any map.
People with field marshall rank, even if they are map specialist, only playing one map, aren't "any middle of the road player", they're above the average.

I still run map rank on those with Col. and above. So many are only 5-10 maps wide. So I give them credit for what they know but know I would be bored playing that few number of maps. If I wanted to maintain and achieve rank, I would certainly stop playing tournaments, stop playing invites from lower ranked players with strange settings combos, stop socializing with as many people.

But how boring...boring...

But if they pay their money they can do what they want, just don't ask me to respect them because of their rank. The ones I really respect are the few who play lots of tournaments, random games, etc and 'still' maintain rank. Those are the truly skilled players. imho

I don't think it is fair to say the top of the scoreboard(3000+) is full of map specialists, sure our current conquer is one but other than him there are not many. Most people at the top of the scoreboard mainly either play large multiplayer games (private with score restrictions) or clan games.

Most of those players also keep a fairly low game count. The lower game count is because they take the games more seriously and want to put the needed effort into games to do their best.

From the clan players' point of view, there is tons of socializing. High-level team games require you to socialize and work with other people.

Well, let's see...

I disagree with the suggestion that the top rank players are map specialist
I disagree with the idea that to be a top-rank player you need to stop socializing
Although I didn't say it I disagree that to be a top-ranked player you have to stop playing tournaments.

The only part I really agree with is that to be a top ranked player you shouldn't accept invites from low ranked players with strange setting combos.

He said lots of players above colonel play the same 5-10 maps. Since you want to use clans as examples so much. Most top players in a clan will play between 10-15 games per war. Some of those games will be on the same map two times as is often the case. Seems fairly accurate. So you saying lots of top players play clan games, or private games, doesn't really deviate from what he said either.

Really, Silly just said what he sees from when he map ranks those players. Then he stated what he, personally, would do if he wanted to achieve a high rank. That's not really something you can disagree with as everyone does things in slightly different ways, no?

He said he wouldn't socialise with "as many people" i.e. playing with so many different people. He never said he would stop socialising. You just can't read.

You said most top players keep a fairly low game count. That's great, Silly never said anything about that, although it stands to reason if you only have 10 active games then they're probably not on many different maps.

Again, I don't see where you disagree. I can see where you tried to disagree but that seems to just be your lack of reading comprehension letting you down, and not for the first time.

Anyone will be "above the average" if they play the same specialist type map all the time. It's a learned strategy that they use over and over and sure, they'll lose a few here and there if they meet someone who also knows that same strategy and gets better dice. There are several so called specialist maps that allow for this kind of play. If they were THAT good, they'd be playing lots of other maps and settings. ;) Not saying the person is a bad player if they do that, but I wouldn't be ranking them as best player on CC. =)

that's the point though. if you dont ever open yourself up, how good are you really? someone like you can do whatever - you're an exceptional all around player with the history to back it up and if you decided to play two maps and get to conqueror, good on you. no qualms. but then you have folks like naruto (garbage) and jalijoo (doesn't even play, is not above average based on any metric and has about 4 medals, just bounce him off using a minimum games played algorithm) in the top 5 rankings. neither one of those players belong there, hard stop. so if you're using a ranking system that rewards being ranked there, then there should be minimum requirements to being there.
