Has anyone played Mafia on any other sites? If so, how do they compare to what we have here?
My sister recently played Mafia around a campfire with some friends. We're not talking about a competitive board game group, but just a casual game. It makes me wonder if Mafia as a game is starting to pick up in popularity outside CC such that we may potentially recruit some more people to our games.

I first played Mafia in a real life setting at a summer camp thing about 10 years ago. I didn't know it was played online until several years later, and didn't play it again until I discovered that.

^This, but deduct 5 years.

I've played Resistance at a few gatherings in 2015 and that seems to be picking up steam. It's very similar to mafia except you don't use a mod, hence there's less room for creativity. Very entertaining game--the "mafia" win way more than town though.

Did you play somewhere else first and then come here?

yep namely teamliquid.net
SO yeah, there are lots and tons of other sites that play mafia, its quite popular. Video mafia is pretty popular as well, having games nearly every night hosted on http://www.twitch.tv/dailymafia
Some sites are like this, casual small. "slow" taking a week or more for day phases.
Tl is a bit different, often just 48 hours for day phase 24 for night, and isn't uncommon for smaller games to get close to or go over 100 pages. (13 player size about)
Also wouldn't be uncommon for a day 1 in a larger game to hit over 100 pages. (which doesn't include the voting thread)
O and they do have this one awesome ability, to basically just hit a filter on a persons post and see only that persons posts in that specific thread. Can't really do that on this site, and the best i can do here is just view the thread by author and browse around.

omg. 100 pages on D1. . .
Video mafia would be fun. Sounds like a totally different game than forum mafia.

There is also a forum 2+2 which hosts "mafia all stars" and invites forum players from all over. maybe CC will send someone over at some point idk

Ooh, what time tonight? If it's not too late I might watch part of it. (EDIT - Oho, looks like you guys are on now)
I only played one game of forum mafia before coming here - it was a few years ago, and it was pokemon-themed. Roles were given out by type(but we didn't know that during set-up), and each of us were able to choose what kind of pokemon we were. The roles all had custom names - when the first of a certain type died, the name got revealed, and when the second of that type died, what the name means got revealed, so you had to guess if only one of a type was lynched (allowed for some interesting fakeclaims).

Watched until mod announced ryu was killed at the start of D3 before needing to go to bed. Who were the mafia, and who won?

Slip and captain are the first 2 mafia.
Game gets down to final 4 with confirmed town TJ and Unctious deciding the last mafia between Striker and Trump Tj pushes hard on trump and he is lynched.

Let's send *Pixar*.

One of these nights I'm going to watch a game of that live. Good to know it's a regular thing each week. Do those guys play at team liquid or 2+2 or any other forum?
I started looking at Epic Mafia yesterday. They have the best reference material re: roles that I've found but I have yet to look into TL and 2+2.
mtam, do you ever play the video mafia?

I host rl games (mentioned it somewhere else before). A group of friends a week on holiday, a day being a rl day. Resistance is a very popular boardgame for us. Werewolves not so much.
Learned about forum mafia on CC however.

I just noticed, dailymafia is doing non-stop video mafia this weekend, for anyone interested.

I played mafia in RL a few years ago a couple times. More recently I've played a bit of one-night ultimate werewolf with my gaming group... maybe I should put a game of that up here. Video mafia sounds interesting, maybe I'll check that out sometime.

I played it in real life first with family about 15 years ago. Instead of mafia we call it "Assassin" and there's usually only one scum per game (We sit in a circle and are handed out playing cards, whoever gets the Ace is the assassin).
Very occasionally do we add in a town doctor and cop, but anything more than that is too complicated. When I first found out about mafia online, my head nearly exploded. The rules/role customization is ridiculous.
