Detroit / MotorCity - A map dedicated to MrMoody

In memory of MrMoody, I intend making a map of Detroit / MotorCity.

I have no idea what the map will look like, or anything, so will consider any and all suggestions.

I'd love to see this, as a native Detroiter. Will watch and give thoughts as best as possible.
Personally, I like the idea of incorporating the metro area as well. Everyone from the Detroit area calls themselves "Detroiters" whether they live in the city or not.

Well, I'm definitely not from the area, so would appreciate any and all native support :P

The only thing I know for certain is that the Tigers stadium needs to be on the map.

Even there, you've got options. You could opt to go with the old Tiger Stadium (which has since been torn down) or the new Comerica Park. (probably a better choice, in my opinion, since it's current)

Which direction would you think you'd be leaning towards? A map of downtown Detroit, or one of the whole metro area?

ok you need to put in some gangs and stuff it is Detroit and then we need to have mrmood territory somewhere on the map then we need a GM bulding and that stuff just some tips

All kidding aside, there are gangs everywhere. Do you want to do something with just downtown? Because that would make it easier to focus on landmarks (GM Building, Comerica Park, Joe Louis Arena, Cobo Center, Bridge and Tunnel to Windsor, Belle Isle, Penobscot Building, Fisher Building, etc.). Or you could do a metro area map, which would be a map based off the last one on your examples.

Also, does anyone know where Moody lived? I'm guessing he probably didn't live in the city, but in a suburb. Which, if you wanted to name a territory after him, would make more sense to put it where from, which again would be easier to do on a map based off the last example.

Did MrMoody literally die? I just thought he announced he was leaving or something. What happened? And is he somehow linked to that dancing kid? (Sorry, I know this is a little off-topic)

On the flip side, an accurate map of an existing city would be neat-o. I think it'd be extra cool to include buildings and other landmarks and make them the territories, as opposed to the last map on MrBenn's list.

What about making the map of Detroit during its heyday. Perhaps using factories or something for bonuses.

I like this. Obviously, you'd need more than just factories, though. Unfortunately, I've only ever been to western Michigan so I'm afraid I don't know much about Detroit, other than the small bits in a textbook here and there.

The gangs idea is interesting gameplay-wise as it could lead to a War-on-Iraq style map. But as pointed-out above, too many gangs maybe wouldn;t work (unless they have alliances)

Actually, I'm beginning to form an idea in my head of what I want the map to look like, and I think it means I'll be focussing on a more central area, with more landmarks...

So, I guess the first step is to get a definitive list of central landmarks that would make their way onto the map:

Tiger Stadium
Comerica Park
Ford Field
Joe Louis Arena
MGM Grand Casino
.
.

I'm trying to find some landmark buildings that might look good in some kind of 3D rendering, and could do with some help :P

edit: Here's a conceptual image of the kind of thing I was hoping to achieve (with a more hand-drawn look when completed)

One distinctive feature of Detroit is that major roads spoke outward from downtown. Woodward, Gratiot, Grand River, East Jefferson, Michigan Avenue, and West Fort Street. It makes a loosely interpreted half-wheel, as the Detroit River would cut through the middle. Some major neighborhoods include Highland Park, which used to be stunning, but is now in ruins; Hamtramck, which is highly populated by Poles; Palmer Park; Belle Isle; Lafayette...

Hope that helps!

Definately all the arenas (except the palace, it's in auburn hills)
Will the dominent number of territories be buildings or roads and highways? We can work off that.
