Thanks blitz. It's such a simple tournament, I was surprised nobody had started it already.

I was wondering when someone would pick up the defending champions.

And the Dominican Republic, who I think will win the real thing this year, is still open.

We would like to represent the Dominican Republic in this fancy tournament.

Playing the role of the mythical figure that is Vladimir Guerrero, we have General Mojo....

Playing the role of David Ortiz, and in charge of all of our clutch rolling, we have Solidorange7....

Playing the role of Bartolo Colon, the fat worthless veteran we all know and love, we have mcapizzi....

And last, and CERTAINLY least, coming out of retirement...in the role of Jose "its LIMA time!" please welcome Stoggieman!

Now lets play ball!

First of all, we would like it known that Jpeter defected from the Dominican Republic to join the United States team in this tournament. This is exactly the controversy we saw with Alex Rodriguez in the WBC-- is he representing America? Is he representing the Dominican Republic?

Regardless, we will be throwing at him during the game.

Secondly, please recognize that "DRS" now stands for "Dominican Republic Society."

Ooh, this just got interesting. Do I smell a bench-clearing brawl in the near future?

Updated, and Chinese Taipei is taken as well. Who wants Puerto Rico?

We are now full, but reserve teams are always welcome to sign up. The following players expressed interest in the tournament, but weren't on a team, and should be considered if any teams have a player drop.

I have applied for tournament priveleges, so we should be able to get going pretty soon. In the meantime, here is how the teams stack up points-wise.
1. USA -- 11,610
2. Australia -- 11,435
3. Korea -- 10,787
4. Netherlands -- 10,286
5. Dominican Republic -- 9,890
6. South Africa -- 9,522
7. Japan -- 9,224
8. Mexico -- 8,706
9. Chinese Taipei -- 7,919
10. Panama -- 7,755
11. China -- 7,712
12. Canada -- 7,491
13. Italy -- 6,282
14. Cuba -- 5,638
15. Venezuela -- 5,370
16 Puerto Rico -- 4,930

Discuss.

The following players have not yet joined their first-set games:

Chinese Taipei: Nooley
Netherlands: fishydance
Puerto Rico: Xaphan

Since Monday is my craziest day at work, I will give these players until Noon my time (Pacific) Tuesday before I start calling in reserves. Good luck everybody.

The Puerto Rican team has a substitution - dreamchaser will be pinch-hitting for Xaphan.
