sorrry guys...we're in a slow stage of play right now, so not much new to report...I'll update brackets tonight regardless and will probably start the second-round of Davis Cup to get some of us playing again. French Open should start soon, just waiting for a few more matches to get completed so I can update the $$ list somewhat.

Plash Ricrem was downing his sorrows in Southern Comfort when we found him at the hotel bar following his straight sets defeat in the 2nd round of the Charleston classic.
"I don't have much to say. I still love the city of Charleston, but I knew it was a bad day when I showed up at the court and the judges said I had to play left landed (ridiculously terrible drops in the flat rate games). Things became even worse when early in the first set I was informed I couldn't use the challenge system on disputed calls (losing throws left, right, and center). One thing led to another and although I tried my best it just wasn't in the cards today. Of course we then played a match for fun and I won that. Just gotta shrug it off in time for whatever's next. Is it the French? I think I'll be ready to kick ass and take names in that one. Of course, I also want to try my best in my Davis Cup doubles match, which I should actually be getting to right now." He then abruptly exited the bar, telling the barkeep to put it on ATP chairman Flexmaster's tab.

Plash Ricrem exploded at reporters who questioned his intensity following his straight set defeat by Flexmaster in the French Open 1st Round. When a reporter wondered aloud if Ricrem (who, like Flexmaster, is a member of the Oregon track team) threw the match, Ricrem grabbed a nearby French baguette and began to beat the man senselessly about the head, with it. He was restrained by security guards and took a few minutes to compose himself. "Look, Flex is a good guy and I wish him all the best this tourney, but there's no way I'd ever throw a match, particularly a major." Ricrem then went on to blame his poor performance on his accommodations, "It was some crazy 70's style bed and breakfast. The pillows were extra firm, and then I got woken up at 3 am by some French call girls. I'm pretty sure Flex may have sent them. I told them to leave, but they were quite persistent, so we stayed up and talked until the dawn about the meaning of life and burden of being a multisport athlete/ coach. The next thing I know, its 30 minutes before the match and I have to hail a cab to the stadium."

Yet Ricrem seemed confident that a turnaround is in his future (even if he may be fined by the ATP), "I think things are going to turn around. I'm currently in the midst of a solid first set of a Davis Cup semis, and things can't get much worse, right?"

After further inspection I discovered I had forgotten to string me racket before my 6-0, 6-0 loss to heyheymymy in the second round. Those details will kill you, I'll have to hire a trainer or something :)

Got thru my 2nd round of the French open by 2-1sets. After my 1st round victory I took the 1st set with a double Ace serve (MixSet & 3bonus set territories), giving me the confidence to finish it in straight sets, but General Flashman hit back with a dazzling display to bring it level at 1set all. The final decider opened up with a break of serve for me (gained bonus territory 1st round), allowing me to just hold serve for long enough to find an opening to finally break serve & wrong foot Flashman twice to seal victory in France, totally exhausted, dehydrated & in need of a long rest - French weather this time of year is just glorious, but hard to maintain on the court, especially when playing such a determined opponent as General Flashman, really good game, looking forward to the next round! :D

"Everyone to the pub, the first round is on me!" was the jubilant exclamation of Plash Ricrem following his and heyheymymy's straight set doubles victory (5281198) over Spain which launched the UK into the Davis Cup finals. Ricrem called their victory, "Probably the biggest highlight of my young career. I thought heyhey and I did a solid job playing as a team and it just feels good to contribute to the UK cause after losing in straight sets in our first round match. Plus you know, the prize money certainly doesn't hurt!"

the prize $$$ is really minimal when you take into account currency exchange rates, multiplied by the average temperature in Cameroon this July, divided by the number of residents in Melbourne.

Really, I only unveiled part of the formula when it comes to Davis Cup play.

Davis Cup semis are complete with Germany and Great Britain set for a finals showdown after picking up tight 3-2 wins...doubles matches decided both clashes.

vykingsfan64 closed out Germany's straight-set doubles win, taking over with a flurry of hits after his partner went down with a hamstring injury (eliminated) in the middle of the second set.
"We just couldn't get anything past him," USA's flexmaster said. "It was like there were five players on the other side of the net...unbelievable."

WEEK 5 tourneys will go out Tuesday morning, along with an updated money list

In a battle of Davis Cup doubles partners, Heyheymymy overcame a strong start by Plash Ricrem to advance to the 2nd round of the Italian Grand Prix. Reached after the match Ricrem bemoaned the excellent food in italy, claiming that his loss was due to eating "too much delicious tortellini prior to the match. It just sorta gained on me, you know what I'm saying?" Any sort of heavy cream sauce didn't appear to slow Ricrem down through the first set and a half, as he was able to dial his service games up a notch (3 card mixed set after 3 card mixed set) to jump out to a first set victory, and race ahead in the second. "Unfortunately, heyhey isn't ranked 3rd in the ATP rankings for merely giggles, and was able to counter every shot of mine with one of his own. However, I really feel though like I let the 2nd set slip away. Once we got to the 3rd set, I was all out of power (no spoils) and my concentration waned a bit (thinking too much about pasta? resulting in some unlucky rolls.) I mean I guess it's good the prize money went to a team UK player, but I think I could have used it a little more than he could. Now if you excuse me, I've got to go find some more of those yummy breadsticks to eat."
