Never a fan of playing in the brutal heat of the Australian open (12 territory start ;) ) Plash Ricrem comes out swinging taking down 19th seeded vykingsfan in straight sets (5024807, 5024806). When asked after the match how he was able to overcome some early jitters (vikes getting the first drop in both games) Ricrem noted that in the first set Vikes double fault to cost him his service game (inability to take a territory turn 1) really hampered his cause, noting that "it just wasn't his day." Things then only seemed to go downhill for Vykingsfan who watched in horror as he was unable to capture a crucial break point from love-40 (11-6 to break a +2 bonus) and then was steamrolled in the second set when Ricrem's vicious forehand got cranking (3 card mixed to really end much hope of a comeback).

When asked about his 2nd round opponent 30th seeded markec, Ricrem thought that the seedings really don't matter much anyway. "You can't take anything for granted out here. On any given day anything can happen. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up the good play though and advance into the quarters."

your reports are hilarious plash...very fun, you are welcome in any of my tourneys.

Rumor had it that a crazed lunatic charged out of the stands and tried to fit vyks with a red beret. Can you confirm or deny? With no television coverage for the early rounds, no cameras were on hand to document the incident?

Unfortunately Flex, those reports were true. The lunatic was unsuccessful however, as vyks let forth with a couple of vicious forehands with his racket and beat the attacker savagely. After the match several onlookers noted that those swings were probably the best ones that Vyks took all afternoon.

I had to beat the crap out of him! He was wearing a Packers jersey and a piece of foam cheese on his head.

Another update from the CCN (conquer club news) sportsdesk where down in the simmering heat of the Australian Open upstart 30th seed Markec has shown no fear in a second round classic with 14th Plash.Ricrem. Markec came out with a vengeance in the first set, quickly breaking Ricrem twice (picking up 2 territory bonuses worth +5) on the way to a swift 6-1 thrashing (5059493). However, unlike in previous years where Ricrem may have wilted due to the heat or the tremendous start of his opponent, Ricrem steadied himself in the second set (5059488). The second set was filled with tension as the two foes exchanged long volleys, culminating in a tiebreaker where Ricrem was only able to seize control after an untimely double fault by Markec (Cashed a blue and lost 14-7 followed by myself cashing a 3 card mixed) . They're now headed to a decisive 3rd set, where all bets are off. Stay with us at CCN after the match for exclusive post game comments and a highlights of the 3rd set.

We at the CCN sportsdesk were able to track down a frustrated and exhausted plash.ricrem following his 2nd round exit at the Australian Open losing in a 3 set war to 30th seed Markec (5059502).

CCN: So any thoughts on your match?
P.R.: Just disappointed really. I thought I played relatively well all things considered. I really have to tip my cap to Markec though, he just wouldn't quit. Whoever he plays next round will be in for quite a battle.

CCN: You're referring of course to your quick start?
P.R.: Nods Yeah, I was hoping to put him on the ropes early and I thought I did a good enough job forcing the issue with my net game (in line to pick up a +3 bonus after like 3 rounds). But damn, every time I thought I had him where I wanted him, he just kept making shots. I'd make a drop shot, he'd make some miraculous lob over my head. Maybe I got too complacent or something (not pinching when I could have tried to resolidify that bonus), I guess I thought I could take him on nothing but ground strokes alone (straight deployments) but we all saw how that ended up.

CCN: What was the most frustrating aspect of the match?
P.R.: Besides Markec hitting every shot in tarnation? Losing my serve late (6-2 to break his +3 bonus, losing all 5 rolls) to really end any hope of a comeback definitely pissed me off. I try to pride myself on at least my serve accuracy and even that fell through. It could have been the heat, I don't know. I guess I'm glad I made it out of the first round this year, but otherwise I'm not too happy with the outcome here. Luckily the season is young and there's plenty of time for improvement.

CCN: Any comments on the Mets embarrassing 9-8 loss to the Yankees tonight?
P.R.: Utters several choice words that are bleeped out. No, other then it gives me another excuse besides my defeat tonight to hit the hotel bar hard before my flight out tomorrow. If anyone's looking for me, I'll be there with at least a 6 pack of Foster's in hand.

Aussie Open sets two more quarterfinals with #30 markec and #28 heyheymymy advancing in big upset runs.

Also, the Davis Cup quarterfinals are starting to take shape with all matches now out...except for possible third sets for doubles.

#1 seed DBandit70 has advanced to the Aussie Open finals...congrats.
Brackets for Aussie Open and Davis Cup have been updated...some key doubles battles going on for Davis Cup survival.

It hasn't been a huge problem, but I have a couple people lagging on joining games (xstu78x/danfrank)...please join ASAP...I'll be recruiting some reserves to take spots if they aren't filled soon.

Also, if you're heading out of town for an extended period please send me a pm and I can schedule around that...it is summer afterall and I'm sure people will be off on vacations. thanks, flex

A couple points of clarification...

Sets 1 & 2 are flat, sunny, chained
Set #3 (if necessary) is no spoils, foggy, chained

Players should join sets 1 & 2 ASAP when they are sent out and I'm leaving it up to the players when they want to play Set 3...you can join it right away or wait until it is needed.

Also, the scoring is just a way of showing how competitive a match was...the only way to win a set is to win the map.

I go through each map and the losing player is awarded a game for every round in which he outdeploys or matches his opponent. So if the winning player takes an early bonus and scores big right away you'll probably end up with a 6-1 set, but if the losing player keeps it close and pushes it into the later rounds, then you get the 6-4 and 7-5 type scores...just for fun though.

Can you withdraw from a tourney with an injury?

All three starts and bonuses in two for sure gives me no chance against my opponent.

SA open is done for HA

The aces(dice) are coming in and I have fought my way back from what looked to be a no win situation. I put a band aid on my broken leg so we shall see if it holds.

you need to hire a real trainer Highlander...a band-aid for a broken leg??? That should require stitches shouldn't it??? :)

TOURNEY NOTE: xstu78x has been replaced by SNARF17WD, so let's welcome our new player...he will be joining Spain for the Davis Cup portion.
