your statement is stupid. psg was made out of oil and gas money just like chelsea and city. Each of these 3 clubs has won at least 1 domestic league since then, after several decades without being able to do so. The emir of qatar has at least 20 times more money than mansour or abramovich. his goal is to make them european champions. So far things have worked exactly as planned (dominating domestically and progressing year after year in europe), the objective being to win it after 5-10 years, like chelsea did. psg has actually a real team with a soul, not just a pile of names added up, the recruiters have been doing a very decent job (it took loads of seasons and tons of f*ck ups to city to get somewhere, nevertheless they have always been shit in CL so far!).I will agree with you though, PSG will never win the premier league (neither will barcelona or the bayern, or the real madrid yet they could beat anyone in it). it can win the champions league though, lol.
"The current PSG team is very good by the standards of their league" this sentence just proves that you have no idea of what's going on outside of the premier league. you are saying this as if I was talking of the Lyon of the 2000s' that won 7 ligue 1 straight, qualified 14 years straight in champions league and always got kicked out around the quarter finals. Very good in french standards, but not to compete against top notch european teams. The PSG from this season is a whole different thing and IS a top notch european team. If you fail to realize that it's a club growing at an incredible pace since the past 2 and a half years, well you don't understand how fast things move in football. They can f*ck up big time, anything can happen, but ask anyone who knows a bit of international football, they are among the favorites.

just went to see what the bookies say:

FC Bayern Munich 3.25
FC Barcelone 5.50
Real Madrid 6.00

Paris Saint-Germain 13.00

No doubt PSG are a big fish in a small pool and I wish them well honestly,I do follow other leagues and their progress has been phenomenal. But by your own list of odds, and there are others that tell a different story, there are 4 English clubs just below them who they wouldn't fancy playing. And how do you reconcile a 'real team with soul' with the Arab oil money? All top teams now spend fantastic sums of money to compete, that's just a fact like it or not.
Anyway that's the great thing about football, everyone has opinions,so let's not descend to 'your statenent is stupid',we can do better than that..

some statements depend on opinions chang and can be respected, some others are just plainly wrong. The premiership is overall the strongest league, so therefore by your argument any top team from the premiership is better than any other team from any other league. It's just a stupid argument, I'm sorry to say this. I'm sure you will admit that if you think about it it does not make any sense.
When I say it has a soul, I mean that the players actually care to win and to do the best they can and you see something going on as a team on the pitch. Take the anzhi makashkala a couple of years ago. a team done with tons of money and big names, but done stupidly and players didn't care and were there ONLY for the paycheck, who cares of the results! (the owner lost half a billion this summer on stock markets and pulled out)
I think chelsea's project was done pretty intelligently from the start. City"s wasn't during the first 3 years or so. lots of bad recruitment. Malaga... well, they did pretty well actually, but the owner (cousin of the Emir of Qatar, also called Al Thani) had some political projects in the region that didn't work, and he also saw all the mafia there is in the south of spain so he just pulled out of the project. The russian in monaco... I don't know yet! but for a first year in first division he spent way much more that I would've thought, and there are lots of very good 17-22 year old in that project on top of big names such as falcao, moutinho, james rodriguez, toulalan, abidal... I don't know if this guy will be consistent like in paris in his spendings.
Would be cool to have some big investments done for marseille and lyon too so it doesn't become a league of 2. Lille is still holding there though.
I don't know, I know that most people like when things are done old school; but I personally enjoy those big club take overs with investments. In france there are huge taxes on clubs and players, and we can't be competitive. Qatar is now selling the ligue1 tv rights abroad, they created a tv network here too, it's a well rounded project and they know what they're doing. It's probably thanks to Qatar that the russian bought monaco. Don't forget that Paris is the second largest european city after london and that it only has 1 club for 10 ish in london, that is a huge domestic market. also spanish and italian clubs used to have huge debts and spend things they couldn t afford. How is that more fair than a club take over by investors?
like i said earlier... now beware of inter, cause they are next on that list of big spenders!

Actually the Primera Liga is on a par with the Premiership if not better.France maybe ranks 5th after Germany and Italy. We're never gonna agree about PSG,I still think they and other French sides need to be tested week in week out domestically before they win regularly in Europe.Dutch and Portugese teams have also had their moments producing great teams yet it is teams from the big 4 that will continue to dominate I reckon.

"primera liga" isn't a correct term; you should say "liga" or "primera" or "primera division". i was wondering what it was..
Spain has more quality and less quantity because of the way TV rights are shared between clubs by the leagues in spain and england, as i said earlier. But yeah, it's always pretty close between spain and england for number 1. Germany is very strong and very under rated, I think partly because only the bayern is stable and the others come and go. And Italy is comming back, and their league was dominating europe in the 90s. the french league is number 5, I'm not questionning that, and it always has been. Only thing is that it might have been number 5 overall, but you did have some dutch or portuguese clubs at the same time that were better.
But just look at the amount of ex players from ligue 1 playing in england, in spain and italy. Our league has always been doing export. Except i the early 90s when Marseille was dominating europe and was buying top european players such as chris waddle, rudi voeller ect... Marseille won a champions league and lost another one on penalties at the time. also lost a semi final in the middle because of a ref scandal vs benfica. It's all about cycles. Paris is importing all the biggest stars from the serie A. Monaco is too. Monaco made it to a champion's league final less than 10 years ago I don't know if you remember by the way...
If french teams have been doing so bad it's mainly because they have never managed to not only keep their best players but alsoto improve their roster from one year to the next. not enough financial power. these 2 clubs have financial power and can bring more or less anyone and make their players stay.

You're checking the odds in France, therefore the odds for PSG will be shorter than in other countries, it's the same if i check the odds. they have the English teams either at the some odds as PSG or shorter. If we want to know the real odds to compare the two we need to ask a german people to check the odds on their site.

Yes moot point. I m just saying that PSG can be considered in the top 4 or close enough, therefore potential semifinalist. Last year they left the champions league without losing a single game. I never said that PSG was at the level of the bayern. Nevertheless, given how psg has improved in its team game and signed a huge player such as cavani who is doing very well they ARE much better than last year. Expecting a semi final or more from them is totally legit.
Regarding the bookie odds, they might be slightly different from a country to the next, but i looked on the most known international betting site, bwin and the variation should be very small.

You missed my point, French people put more money on French team, English people pit more money on English teams so the same company will have different odds for the same teams in different countries. If you want to know the real odds for PSG ask someone from a country who doesn't have a team in the last 16 to look.

Come on, english premier league is fun to watch because teams are very agressive and style of play is attractive, they never quit , they are allowed to break legs without being sent off etc. So its fun to watch
Apart from 6 teams now(and only because tottenham, city and chelsea have been bought recently by millionaires) every other team is really crap and they have massive yearly budgets. Even my home team with a shitty swansea or southampton budget would be a contender for english title.i just wish we had that money :D

Betiko. We are doing pretty well this season. We had to release guys who earned big money, buy cheap players etc. But we managed to get a group of young and determined players who are united and willing to play game by game. Still its a long way to go and i dont believe we can win the title this year. Our budget is very limited compared to our rivals. But we are doing good, supporters are proud again of our team, even when we dont play good. We want attitude in the 1st place and players are delivering that.
Also would like to comment on your OL statement. Its true what you said, but the guys gave through the years a great image of the french league. Every champions league, they were a very tough team to play against and every year they have been through the group stage. Not any team can achieve that.

No i did not miss your point. I have a friend who is a bookie, and he told me how often they copy odds between each other and from a country to the other for starters. Of course it then varies when stuff happen, like tomorrow s draw and how much money is in play so they cover losses. An international site like bwin covers losses by market but also on a global basis. Odds are close from dortmund to chelsea, they might be in a slightly different order in the UK but it will remain very close.

people have doubts about psg and city because they are "new" teams comparing to barcelonas RM MU or BM and they did not prove nothing in europe.
They sure have great quality, but before they get the "respect" from people they will have to show results. Simple as that.

The truth is that, apart from great individuals they have, both are playing as a team and geling the ney manager style of football. With a bit of luck(like every other team needs) they are serious contenders just below the really serious ones BM, RM and Barcelona

So what was the name of that young guy? Heard there is this new cristiano ronaldo like aged 17 or so playing for sporting.. Also, what s up with porto in champion s league, transition year? I was surprised, but we all know they will end up going far in europa league again..

Lyon actually had a team with chances to be champion at some point, when they were at their very top around 2005-06. They just needed a bit more luck, i remember quarter finals lost vs milan and psv eindoven that they should never have lost. They would always knock out the real madrid I remember. They went to semi finals in 2010 and lost against bayern, but they were far from having a team as in 2006. The luck element is always a big factor.

CL needs a bit of luck for good but not great teams to win, Chelsea, Inter... Porto. Teams like Bayern, Barcelona a few years back and Man Utd just before that just need to play to the best of their ability.

Ok, what are the odds for France and England to win the WC?

not sure what guy we are talking about, specially at that age. We have a few talents but not 17. One guy is doing really good. The "new" Patrick Vieira" but he is 21.
Our new striker is also scoring a good amount of goals. Freddy montero a colombian but he is about 25. Another good thing is that we have a lot of young players that come from our own "cantera" wich is considered by evryone one of the best in the world, but no new CR7, unfortunatelly :)

ive just seen that OL and marseille tied 2-2 tonight..was that the portuguese gk who just gave OM 2 goals for free?what a laugh...ive checked now..it was vercoutre not the portuguese...lolol

about porto, some key players like moutinho and james and they didnt get the same quality replacements. Also new coach who is not doing very well

Also new coach who is not doing very well

yeah it was a guy with a very portuguese name, a very common one. i don't know just heard it in some football program in the middle of a discution, they talked about sporting for a second saying that they were doing very good this season, rebuilding on young players and that they had a new 17 year old guy everyone was talking about in portugal. I don't really know about the position he plays, it was just a very brief comment, made me think about you and so I wanted to ask! ;)

Yeah, that game is called the "olympico" here, olympique de marseille vs olympique de lyon. we are both embarassingly bad this year. It's been the match between the 2 best teams the past 10 years, now it's a game between 2 mid level teams of the ligue1. I was watching the game while i was writting my previous message here. Marseille got extremely lucky for once, we deserved to lose this 5-0. my other team, the betis lost 5-1 today and is still last of the liga. happy times! lol
Regarding the keeper, Anthony Lopes, is he really portuguese? I think he is one of those born and raised in france franco-portuguese, he probably chose to play for portugal. he isn't very impressive to say the least.

Ok, what are the odds for France and England to win the WC?

exactly. chelsea, inter and porto were teams that didn't really deserve to win (they were clearly not the best of the season), they just got lucky. Chelsea was a real joke, don't know if you remember that final vs bayern, played in munich.. my god it was hilarious. I was rooting for chelsea.

is that a real question regarding the odds to compare them with another site? let me check..

Brésil 4.25
Argentine 6.00
Allemagne 6.00
Espagne 8.00
Belgique 15.00
Colombie 17.00
France 19.00
Pays-Bas 21.00
Uruguay 26.00
Italie 26.00
Portugal 26.00
Angleterre 34.00
Chili 41.00
Suisse 67.00
Russie 67.00
Bosnie-Herzégovine 126.00
Japon 126.00
Côte d'Ivoire 126.00
USA 151.00
Equateur 151.00
Croatie 151.00
Mexique 151.00
Ghana 151.00
Grèce 251.00
Nigéria 251.00
Cameroun 401.00
Corée du Sud 501.00
Australie 501.00
Iran 1501.00
Algérie 1501.00
Costa Rica 1501.00
Honduras 1501.00

ok if france has much better odds than england it's because of the draw. netherlands is behind france, but if you think about it there is a logic... first they need to make it through with spain and chile, then they probably face brazil...

trevor33 wrote:You missed my point, French people put more money on French team, English people pit more money on English teams so the same company will have different odds for the same teams in different countries. If you want to know the real odds for PSG ask someone from a country who doesn't have a team in the last 16 to look.

That Chelsea final was a joke, there was something about them that season though... i don't believe on fate but i did have a bet on them before the last 16 on nothing more than a feeling. They didn't deserve that win but football is funny sometimes, i'll always remember Greece and wonder if that really happened or the world was playing a long elaborate joke on me :?

Ok, i checked the odds from an English side... they're not laid out on the same way Europeans do it but France are 22/1 (joint 6th favorite with Italy, Colombia and Holland) and England are 25/1 (11th), a very small difference with both France and England having better odds on the sites we picked. Interesting that your site had Italy and Holland less favorite than France but Colombia ahead. At least one bookie is listening to me ;)

I guess the only way to prove what i'm saying is for you to go to paddypower.com and tell me what the prices are there.

Doesn t exist here, will have just the same odds as you it s just the english site. Bwin is the biggest, you go there and tell me.
Why do you anglo saxons need to always be so complicated with mesures ffs... Do you instantly know what 41/12 is compared to 43/13 or whatever.. Isn t a fucking number easier to instantly compute rather than a freaking fraction? There is not one fucking thing that you can do like the rest of europe seriously!

For me the English way of working out odds is pretty simple... 6/4 bet 4 and win 6. Now if you start talking about KM/miles and liters/pints that's a different discussions... metric system all the way if you ask me.

Well the odds that i got were the same as yours, guess my theory only works with local sites... as in the English ones will always have worse odds for England over the rest and so on. Either that or it doesn't change because i'm not in England but i doubt that.

It obviously depends what system you were brought up with, and please don't try to say the French don't have their own set of national idiosyncrasies..plus the odds you quote would almost never be seen in a bookies in the UK,comprabable quoted odds would be 7-2 or 13-4,and anyone not able to see which of those is the longer price shouldn't go anywhere a betting shop.
