New Global Warming Facts

NASA satellite data from the years 2000 through 2011 show the Earth’s atmosphere is allowing far more heat to be released into space than alarmist computer models have predicted, reports a new study in the peer-reviewed science journal Remote Sensing. The study indicates far less future global warming will occur than United Nations computer models have predicted, and supports prior studies indicating increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide trap far less heat than alarmists have claimed.

Study co-author Dr. Roy Spencer, a principal research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and U.S. Science Team Leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer flying on NASA’s Aqua satellite, reports that real-world data from NASA’s Terra satellite contradict multiple assumptions fed into alarmist computer models.

“The satellite observations suggest there is much more energy lost to space during and after warming than the climate models show,” Spencer said in a July 26 University of Alabama press release. “There is a huge discrepancy between the data and the forecasts that is especially big over the oceans.”

In addition to finding that far less heat is being trapped than alarmist computer models have predicted, the NASA satellite data show the atmosphere begins shedding heat into space long before United Nations computer models predicted.

The new findings are extremely important and should dramatically alter the global warming debate.

Scientists on all sides of the global warming debate are in general agreement about how much heat is being directly trapped by human emissions of carbon dioxide (the answer is “not much”). However, the single most important issue in the global warming debate is whether carbon dioxide emissions will indirectly trap far more heat by causing large increases in atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds. Alarmist computer models assume human carbon dioxide emissions indirectly cause substantial increases in atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds (each of which are very effective at trapping heat), but real-world data have long shown that carbon dioxide emissions are not causing as much atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds as the alarmist computer models have predicted.

The new NASA Terra satellite data are consistent with long-term NOAA and NASA data indicating atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds are not increasing in the manner predicted by alarmist computer models. The Terra satellite data also support data collected by NASA’s ERBS satellite showing far more longwave radiation (and thus, heat) escaped into space between 1985 and 1999 than alarmist computer models had predicted. Together, the NASA ERBS and Terra satellite data show that for 25 years and counting, carbon dioxide emissions have directly and indirectly trapped far less heat than alarmist computer models have predicted.

In short, the central premise of alarmist global warming theory is that carbon dioxide emissions should be directly and indirectly trapping a certain amount of heat in the earth’s atmosphere and preventing it from escaping into space. Real-world measurements, however, show far less heat is being trapped in the earth’s atmosphere than the alarmist computer models predict, and far more heat is escaping into space than the alarmist computer models predict.

When objective NASA satellite data, reported in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, show a “huge discrepancy” between alarmist climate models and real-world facts, climate scientists, the media and our elected officials would be wise to take notice. Whether or not they do so will tell us a great deal about how honest the purveyors of global warming alarmism truly are.

This is seriously good news. On another note, any article that uses the word "alarmist" that many times smacks of serious bias.

Also, even if the above is fully true, all it means is that we might have more time before the doomsday hits. And.. regardless of the heat escaping, world temperatures have increased recently.

In case you're curious about what actual climate scientists think ("alarmists" if you're a troglodyte), you can read a typical response here.

It continues to amaze me that non-scientists think that they should take sides on the global warming debate, as if it even matters.

... Aside from the fact that the "research" (notice the quotes there) into global warming has been fraught with a seemingly endless series of fraud and scandal, the single fact that our government wants to convert carbon into a new source of revenue is telling enough as to how much we can believe in it.

2 points!! it really isn't a debate anymore, its happening and its real. People who continue to deny it wind me up something serious. Here in Northern Ireland, we had an advert for energy saving light bulbs banned, because our Minister of the ENVIRONMENT didn't believe in global warming... ffs

2nd point, ofc it matters, it matters a hell of alot!! Tell that to the people of Tuvalu who may have to evacuate their country.

Ps if you meant it doesn't matter what side there on, again it matters its people on the ground that will implement the changes, that will help make the world a more sustainable place.

Man that is one cynical article!! besides Tuvalu receives very little tourists due to its remote location. Its like saying Ireland wanted to almost go bust to get all that money off the IMF its stupid. The fact is the highest point on the island is only a few metres high and is very vulnerable to any sea rise. You have to remember even if the sea water on the back of a storm or tide swamped the island once, the land would be left infertile due to the salt deposit. Tuvalu only stands to lose.

... Well, aside from the fact that the islands are cashing in on the eco-tourism, the following is perhaps more relevant:

Article wrote:Not surprisingly, what is being conveyed to the world has nothing to do with reality. Many of the islands are in fact growing a couple of millimeters annually. The situation is the same for all the atolls.

Arthur Webb is coastal specialist at the geoscientific organisation of Sopac in Fiji and says much of it has to do with decadal tidal cycles. Erosion is a natural process that has always existed. The sea takes away the beach at some places and deposits it elsewhere.

Yes, I meant it doesn't matter what side they're on. I don't mean that people shouldn't support more research into the science, just that they shouldn't be particularly invested in one outcome or the other.

This is literally like someone who doesn't understand basic geometry asking for a full explanation of calculus, because "calculating the arc of a curve is just not possible". Sort of technically true.. but in a very practical sense, absolutely false. Whether laying cement or shooting a rocket up in the air, you don't have to have an absolutely perfect arc, you need one that falls within much, much tigher parameters than basic geometry can provide.

The issue here is that we and all around us is adapted to the world in which we live. Even small changes in the global temperature mean HUGE changes to us. The melting ice caps (yes, they are melting!), increased snowfall and more extreme patterns here in the US (yes, higher temperatures first cuse give us MORE snowfall, not less), intensfying hurricanes, etc.

Also.. yes, temperatures do fluctuate. And we have seen horrible results from those fluctuations. What I find most disturbing is the way so many creationists want to trot that old saw out, about fluctuations not mattering... yet, by their own reckoning, they are advocating that its OK to just let humans destroy millions of species GOD put here. And yes.. that is absolutely what is happening now.

Probably true, I only have a masters in engineering and I only specialize in thermodynamics with respect to what I do for a living so I probably don't have a clue when it comes to heat transfer and how it works.

but please help me try and understand...If Jose is laying cement he doesn't need an "absolute perfect arc" but he needs one that is more precise than "absolute perfect"?

A. when was the last time that you saw Juan use calculus when laying anything?

and

B. What is the difference between "absolute perfect" and "absolute perfect" but with "more, more tigher(sic) parameters"?

Hahaha of course erosion is a natural process!! it happens right across the world where water is involved from rivers to great oceans, I wasn't denying that. It really annoying me when people believe this isn't real, get your head out of your arse lol. Besides what would be worse, do nothing and face global disaster or waste a few pounds protecting against nonexistent threat. You just have have to look at the retreating glaciers and ice caps as proof!! where do you think all this extra fresh water goes?

Article about Envirofascists wrote:Satellite records have been kept for polar sea ice over the last thirty years by the University Of Illinois. In 2007 2008, two very different records were set. The Arctic broke the previous record for the least sea ice area ever recorded, while the Antarctic broke the record for the most sea ice area ever recorded. Summed up over the entire earth, polar ice has remained constant. As seen below, there has been no net gain or loss of polar sea ice since records began.

... And that's University of Illinois data, just in case you ignore the article (there's a lot more there):

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/07/03 ... polar_ice/

... On what do you base your belief that this hoax is real? The UN Panel? Puleeeeez! Uni profs? Give me a break! Or maybe some hot lib girl you know (though that I would certainly understand ;) ).

... And just to be clear, you're saying that Mr. Arthur Webb, of the geoscientific organisation of Sopac in Fiji is full of shite? I mean, I don't know him, but I'd guess he's better versed at this stuff than you or I. Or is this one of those "Flat-Earther" types you try to belittle to avoid confronting arguments that challenge your religion... I mean, belief?

... And for every scientist you show me who advances this hoax, I have one who denounces it. So where does that leave us? It's an endless argument. So please take a few minutes and think about the idea of carbon being turned into money - that is what this is all about. You are part of the useful idiot class being driven like a Toyota by those who stand to profit, and profit immensely from taxing the stuff.. And it will be a helluva lot more than a "few pounds". Have you been paying attention?

... Feel free to respond, but please don't waste our time with "scientific data". I won't believe yours and you won't believe mine. I want to know what you think about the money aspect of this.

To me the money aspect is irrelevant. The fact it arises although annoys me. The vast majority of scientist agree this is happening. The world is heating up. My own country Ireland stands to profit from it short term, increased temperature will allow us to grow crops that weren't possible before. However this would only be a short term gain and the long term everyone will lose out. Economies will suffer there will less trade and this will have a knock on effect on a global scale.

However this capitalist money grabbing culture that exists only benefits a select few. Global warming is not a economic issue. Its a humanitarian and environmental crisis in waiting. The evidence is there just some bury there head in the sand and refuse to believe it.

Also those who don't believe in global warming, should surely at least see the benefit in moving away from carbon based energy!! it will run out eventually. Society as a whole should be phasing in renewable sources of energy.

To help interpret the results, Spencer uses a simple model. But the simple model used by Spencer is too simple (Einstein says that things should be made as simple as possible but not simpler): well this has gone way beyond being too simple (see for instance this post by Barry Bickmore). The model has no realistic ocean, no El Niño, and no hydrological cycle, and it was tuned to give the result it gave.

Boom! Headshot.

That's gotta smart....

It is what happens when teaching science is no longer a priority in US schools.. and when attempts to truly teach it are repeatedly stonewalled or derailed by "concerned citizens" who seem to think all scientists are in collusion to refute religion or destroy business.
