One thing about the Scots you have to admire, they certainly give 110% to things they set their mind too!

To clarify, ballot papers have not yet been sorted into Yes/No and are just resting on table where No will go once sorted. No need to worry.

The "battle" is lost but the struggle continues...

I must admit I'm surprised from the outcome in Edinburgh... I was expecting similar result there as in Glasgow.
I guess with the new privileges that will Scotland get from UK, some of that influence will be used for changing of the colors of Edinburgh. And probably new referendum in around 10 years.

Scotland ... the Nicaragua of Europe ...

With less than two weeks to go before the independence vote on 18 September, Scotland on Sunday has learned that a formal complaint is to be made by Labour to the returning officer at East Ayrshire Council after activists discovered that at least four children in the area aged between three and 11 have received polling cards.

More than a quarter of Scottish voters believe British spies are working to stop the country voting for independence, a new poll has revealed.

Some 26 per cent of Scots think it is ‘probably true’ the security services are working to protect the union ahead of the referendum on 18 September.

Generally vast majority of old people voted NO... probably because of bigger ties with United Kingdom and blackmail that their pensions will be gone if Scotland gets independence.

And one very interesting speech from Gordon Brown... Why it is interesting? Almost all see good speech, but I see quite opposite, horrible one.

What is horrible in the speech? Gordon Brown is talking how UK wont buy products from Scotland and how that will brake Scottish economy. That is A LIE(he might not be aware tho, or he is doing that deliberately).
He is mentioning about 1 million workers in Scotland that might lose their jobs because UK wont buy Scottish products... Its all one big LIE.
I was born in Yugoslavia which collapsed in civil war(worst possible outcome for every country), yet when I go in a shop and when it comes to choosing a product which originates from exYugoslavian country and some other country I usually decide to buy the one from exYugoslavian country. Why? I usually know it :). Even now 23 years after the the collapse, and the civil wars common trade between all exYugoslavian countries is still highest compared to every other countries.
I'm 100% sure the same would have happened with Scotland and the remaining of United Kingdom... But Scotland will probably become independent sooner or later :)

So... Scotland to the Scots that don't lie :)

"Vast majority" = 55%.

That's a close majority.

I'm not so sure about the conspiracy theories, but keep 'em coming. They sure are entertaining. Here's a fun thought: if the Scottish independence did succeed, what conspiracy theories about vote tampering would emerge?

"The Scottish spies hijacked the vote!" "Big Business interests did something bad!" "The people are powerless against special interests!"

Also, yeah, I'm hopeful to about the emergence of Scotland.

British Elections Run Like a Banana Republic, Says Voting Expert

A Russian polling expert, Igor Borisov, has lambasted the Scottish Independence referendum process, in an interview with cmedia yesterday. Borisov, who used to chair Russia’s Central Election Commission, a governmental organisation, claimed that the poll failed to meet basic international norms.

Borisov criticised the Scottish method of tallying votes, claiming that in the large hangar where the Edinburgh ballots were counted, it was “impossible to see what is going on at [polling tables]” and that ballot boxes were “lying around… without any protection”.

Borisov also claimed in a separate interview with Pravda, that the voting process in Scotland was “last century”, and that those voting on the day were able to do so without showing any form of ID, leaving the poll open to rigging comparable to that of Estonia. Borisov was also suspicious of the governmental ban on videoing and photographing polling stations, perceiving it as an attempt to prevent the exposure of electoral malpractice.

Although there was some pressure on the voters from large corporations or from UK, there should not be significant number of conspiracy theories since the event has been observed worldwide threw the media...

As a pensioner I can understand why older voters voted with their wallets,it's easy for the young to take an emotional view with most of their lives ahead of them. But as an English UK taxpayer I do slightly resent the subsidies that flow North and the over-representation of Scottish constituencies at Westminster.

The Scottish vote shows once again that separatists do not represent the majority view of their fellow compatriots and that separatism is inherently undemocratic.

There's actually no way to know for sure how various demographics voted, there were no official exit polls done and the vote was private.

One poll (with a sample size of 14) suggested that 16-17 year olds voted strongly Yes (71% in fact) but another study by Edinburgh University said the youngest people were the most likely (apart from pensioners) to vote No.

What is likely is that old people and women in general probably were more likely to be pro-Unionist, whereas young to middle-aged men will be more likely to vote Yes. There's also the religious aspect, Catholics would almost certainly have been a strong Yes side, with Protestants being a strong No. You could also look at the wealth demographics, well-off people would see no reason to change what is working for them, poorer people may have been more inclined to take a 'risk'.

This is still all just speculation based on limited data and assumptions, the only thing we know for sure is that 55% of the population (and 28/32 of the local districts) voted to continue with the Union.

The thing about that is the few counties that were attempting this were really doomed to fail, and everyone here in CO,and Wyoming as well I bet, knew full well it would never happen. Scotland actually had a chance.
