British Diplomats Commit Serious Crimes Abroad

In 2006, The Independent reported:

Seventeen British diplomats got off scot-free after being accused of serious offences including serious assault abroad last year by claiming diplomatic immunity.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/p ... 26249.html

Were a foreign diplomat in the UK, therefore, to claim diplomatic immunity after allegedly being involved in a crime would it be hypocritical of the British to feign shock?

Presumably this is about the tens of thousands of pounds of traffic violations the US embassy in London has run up and ignored over the years.

Bar fights are not "serious assaults". It's part of british culture. Nothing to see here.

Just saw this. Are we drawing equivalence between someone running down and killing a kid with someone getting into a fist fight?

If the Americans refuse to return this murder suspect to the UK then that should be taken as a signal that America endorses and even respects diplomats murdering children in their host countries, and British diplomats in Washington should react accordingly.

Also I see that I was wrong about how much American diplomats owe the London authorities in fines and violations. It's not tens of thousands, it's tens of millions https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/ ... ebbfdb3e8e

This is the same arrogance and disregard for peoples of the world that America showed when it launched a missile attack on the Chinese embassy in Belgrade.

America, its government and its government's representatives are a malign cancer on this world.

Obviously it's impossible to permit an American to stand trial in random local courts run by the natives in every country to which a diplomat happens to be posted. That will never happen and the FCO knows it. They're simply trying to grab headlines without actually helping the family. (When the UK agrees to hand over the Duke of York to answer sex assault charges, then maybe this could be discussed.)

Instead of trying to grab headlines over things that are utterly impossible, the responsible thing to do is to pursue a civil claim in an American court.

The US murder suspect lied to the police about her plans to stay in the country before immediately fleeing to avoid charges of killing a child. Allowing that to stand would be akin to the UK government saying they prioritise sucking up to Trump's bully administration over protecting the mortal safety of UK citizens.

Thankfully recent British administrations have shown they are far more aware that they live in a pluralistic world where being friends with a range of partners - including China, Iran and others - is more important than being an American lapdog. Especially an America run by an illegal president who condones his diplomatic staff murdering foreign citizens and getting away with it.

That's not known. Her travel plans may simply have changed.

Right, her travel plans changed immediately after she became suspect #1 in a murder case.

These types of assumptions are why we cannot permit American diplomats to stand trial in British courts.

Also, Britain conspired with Sweden to treat Julian Assange very unfairly and held him on trumped-up charges for the benefit of a third country. This proves the British justice system can't be trusted.

like you said.. she is just a … Suspect... she has not been charged with anything..

sounds like you are pro-guilty-until-proven-innocent

Exactly. Avoiding the stereotypical Mob of Angry Villagers is one of the reasons we have diplomatic immunity. It's working and it worked in this case.

Now, that said, if I were the President I would assess whether this woman's husband was part of the swamp or not and - if so - then feed her to the wolves. But if he's a Fellow Traveler or a Non-Partisan, I would ensure his protection.

Prime Minister Johnson has raised this issue with the American ambassador and if he proves unwilling to help then PM Johnson will be personally escalating this matter to Donald Trump.

The British people rest assured that Donald Trump would not abide by his government using its name to defend the fugitive killer of a NATO ally's citizen and that he will promptly make murder suspect #1 return to the UK for further police questioning.

how can someone be a " Fugitive Killer " & "Suspect #1" at the same time...?

your 'Anti-Everything-American" rage isn't making any sense..

She ran over and killed someone (killer), then fled the country (fugitive). She is the number one suspect (suspect).

Not sure how this could be made any simpler for you without the use of crayons and some stuffed animals. Do you have a favourite Beanie Baby that you'd like to use to represent Trump?

Um, Ambassador Johnson is an NFL team owner. Good luck with a lower-level official like Johnson getting a meeting on his schedule. He'll have to get in line behind Beyonce, Sam Darnold, etc.

either she is .. SUSPECTED of doing it . or she did it..

right now.. she is SUSPECTED of doing it.. she has not been charged. .

your placing blame on someone who is suspected of doing something..

she cannot be a fugitive because she left the country if she is not guilty or being charged with anything.. she didn't 'escape' and she isn't in hiding..

America as a nation has responded to these events by showing immense support for the family of the victim and expressing its unanimous disgust at the fugitive killer's flight from the UK:

Harry's mother, Charlotte Charles, said: "We have spoken to some American news channels, we've got others lined up. The message is clearly getting out across there.

"The messages of support we've had from the US have been immense. They're all appalled and devastated for us and disgusted that this woman has been allowed to leave the UK."

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, has spoken to the US ambassador Woody Johnson, and raised the case in a telephone call with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

A Foreign Office spokesman said Mr Raab had "reiterated his disappointment with the US decision and urged them to reconsider".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-n ... e-49969982

Imtiaz Tyab, CBS News wrote:This story has really struck a chord with many Americans and I think that is because at its heart you have two parents grieving the loss of their son.

What's also so different about this story is this idea of diplomatic immunity.

That doesn't sit right with a lot of people we've been hearing from either commenting on our reports or through social media.

Many of them say Anne Sacoolas should be back in the UK and should meet with the family of Harry Dunn
