We are used to seeing World Cup competitions, but it looks like FIFA received too much money to say no to Qatar, and here we are; the entire football world is paying the price.
Anyway, who's your favorite team?
I hope Argentina can win, but I'm not optimistic because everyone seems to be expecting too much from them, which puts a huge pressure on them. It happened to many teams, including Argentina themselves in 2002 together with France when they were the top favorites.
P.S. I forgot how to create a poll

I mean Sepp Blatter just did an interview in which he stated that Michael Platini threw the vote in Qatar's favour after Sarkozy asked him to, which he asked because Qatar promised to buy $16b of French fighter jets. There's no 'looks like' about it any more lol.
Anyway, England are going to win so I hope none of the rest of you get your hopes up too much.

The world puts material things and power before me their Lord and God. Always put me first in this life so that you may see what really matters in the next life that has yet to be revealed.

Obviously not. The logic-based prediction would be England, home of football and of Harry Kane.

because of this score?
Qatar 0
Ecuador 2
GROUP STAGE, AL BAYT STADIUM
or because of the alleged human and workers rights abuses during construction of venues and other structures?
Migrant workers constructing stadiums for the upcoming FIFA World Cup continue to endure labor exploitation and human rights violations despite recent reforms in Qatar, according to a new report from an international human rights research group.
In the past two years, migrants from Africa and Asia working on the eight new stadiums suffered abuses — including wage theft, physical assault and inadequate nutrition — at the hands of major construction firms, the 95-page report from Equidem found.
The World Cup organizing committee denies the allegations.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/soccer/worldcup/2022/11/10/2022-world-cup-abuse-migrant-workers-qatar-continues/8315599001/Many workers experienced rampant wage theft. A worker who had participated in a strike to protest unpaid wages despite fear of reprisal says: “There are two things we need. Regular work, and regular pay for work completed. Unfortunately, both are not guaranteed in Qatar especially if you land a bad employer.”
In response to such reports, the International Labour Organization (ILO) reported that the Qatari government has reimbursed US$320 million to wage abuse victims through the Workers’ Support and Insurance Fund. But the fund became operational only in 2020. For many other workers, their journey ended abruptly with unpaid salaries for physically demanding work in the extreme heat.
Employers and recruiters in Qatar were able to abuse and exploit migrant workers’ destitution and lack of opportunities in their own countries, under the kafala (sponsorship) system, which gives employers disproportionate control over workers, Human Rights Watch said. In one of the world’s richest countries, migrant workers lived in impoverished conditions in overcrowded accommodations. Despite constructing the multi-billion state-of-the-art infrastructure, the majority of low-paid migrant workers “paid to build” the 2022 Qatar World Cup. And, even with Qatar’s advanced health system, families across Asia and Africa were kept in the dark about what killed their loved ones in Qatar.

I think my post is clear enough - "disappointing performance."
As for the other stuff, I'm not sure if this is the right place to discuss it because this thread is meant to discuss the football event.
While I don't like what Qatar and other ultra rich nations in the Arabian / Persian Gulf Region do with migrants, I still prefer to avoid this discussion here. You may like to start an anti-Qatar human rights thread for that.

Back on topic, lol @ Qatar's supposedly much improved side.
Another spanking for a middle eastern team tomorrow as Iran take on the Three Lions!

If you post were unambiguous, I would not have asked the question; "performance" is not limited to athletic events.
And is anyone surprised that Qatar did POORLY on the pitch? I am not. What has been the success of Middle Eastern nations in futbol? NOT much.

Qatar is taking alot of heat for cancelling beer and using slave labor to build facilities but you have to give them some credit.
It's progressive of them to host a tournament for soccer, which is by far the gayest sport in the world.

I would complain about that last sentence but the President of FIFA did do a press conference over the weekend announcing that he
felt gay.
In the same speech he also said he wants to give North Korea a World Cup so we can only assume that saxitoxin has been secretly in charge of world football for at least the last few years.
