Mr. Ryan Webb is no longer a 45 year-old white man but is now a beautiful, 26 year-old, Indian-American woman named Mrs. Anika Joshi.

Right-wingers - who are a threat to our democracy - are refusing to accept Mrs. Joshi's identity and are heaping on backlash against her, and deadnaming her by continuing to call her Ryan and use the "he/him" pronouns.

It says a lot about how polarised online 'debate' is that a young woman simply stating her identity prompts so much vitriol and hate.

The video says that she is native American - is this backlash racist?

It is really ridiculous that people feel the need to target a 20-something woman with their hate.

I believe she's Indian (South Asian). And yes, I think it probably is racist. Would they have targeted her if she had transitioned into a white woman instead of an Indian woman? I doubt it. So much hate in the world.

If she was named 'Alika', I could get on her bandwagon. But 'Anika' is just too cliched. Lock her up!

Maybe she should consider moving to the UK. With a brown Prime Minister, brown Scottish First Minister, brown Mayor of London, brown Home Secretary etc. she would likely find a caring home for herself here. She could also try Ireland, which has a brown Taoiseach (Prime Minister).

I wouldn't recommend continental Europe though. They were all under the thumb of fascism and/or Nazism in relatively recently memory and their ongoing treatment of minority citizens reflects that.

Good points. Plus Britain may have had other minority leaders of whom we're not aware. Churchill openly presented as a cis white male but we don't know for certain that Churchill wasn't actually a Thai lesbian sex worker getting validation of their agency.
