Question for my Yankee friends

So, in two weeks going to Halifax.
Usually to go to the East coast I would drive through Quebec, but this time, just to switch it up, going to go the American route -- through Saratoga Springs, Concord NH, Bangor Maine, etc.
Won't have a lot of time for sightseeing (it's 14 hours driving time over two days) but I've never been to New Hampshire or Maine before, and only briefly been to Vermont, so I would like to see at least one point of interest.
Given the constraints, if you could only see ONE thing in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine, what would it be?

Son just spent a week visiting his gf in Massachusetts...saw lots of cool stuff.
I've never been east of Montana

Yankee is something (central / eastern) southerners call northerners as a disrespectful slur. Is that what you're shooting for? Well played....
Have fun!

I'm talking about today, not 200 years ago

In Oregon, amongst Pacific northwesterners, I've never heard the term used in 60 years to reference any Americans. Just my southern buds call me that as a funny slur.
Thems the facts...ok?

'Yanks' sounds a bit WW2 to me but it is used a bit in countries like the UK, Ireland, Australia etc still. Depending how it's used it might be derogatory, might not be.
ofc in the US, yankees might be a protected ethnic group and beating the baseball team might constitute a hate crime, so we non-Americans should be open to acknowledging the vulnerabilty and sensitivity of our transatlantic friends if they say they find the term shocking and offensive.

Dukasaur is in Canada where many people think it's a term of endearment.
Plus he specifically said he was going through some arguably Yankee states. I don't know where the actual Yankee colony was, but Vermont might well be the epicenter.
According to Wikipedia, Elwyn Brooks White wrote:

To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander.
To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter.
And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast.

Yeah, I feel like Ralf is representing some kind of a seperate thing here.
Thinking about the term Yankee a bit more, there is probably an ever growing division among Canadians.
Actual boomers and Gen Xers, that might still use even worse insulting slurs as playful nicknames.
Versus
Extreme "woke" young people, who vocally will almost seem to violently oppose such practices.

Canada's former education systems colonial roots may be partially to blame.
https://www.britannica.com/topic/Yankee-nicknameYankee, a native or citizen of the United States or, more narrowly, of the New England states of the United States (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut). The term Yankee is often associated with such characteristics as shrewdness, thrift, ingenuity, and conservatism. It was applied to Federal soldiers and other Northerners by Southerners during the American Civil War (1861–65) and afterward.

No, lol.
I know to some hard-core Confederate loyalists, "Yankee" is still an insult, but I think to most people it's just a descriptive without any ill intent.
Something like this...

This part, however, blows my mind...

You've never been to Cape Canaveral and seen the rockets?
You've never been through Carlsbad Caverns?
You've never been up the Empire State Building?
Egads, man, you've got to go see your own country!
Well, at least you've been to Hawaii, which I've never seen...

Anyway, to get back on topic...
Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire.
Among three states, got to be ONE spot that someone will want to tell me is totally amazing!

Sorry I'm not more help but 80% of Canada is closer to me than those three states, and when I do hit up the NE I've never gone north of Boston.
My associations for this area probably wouldn't excite a Canadian who makes this drive yearly on the other side of the border (Maple Syrup, Lakes, Cheese, skiing)
My old high school era friends folks run this place (or used to) -
https://www.rockwellsretreat.com/ - but i dunno if it's really that interesting to stay in a house just because someone famous lived there eons ago.

Just drop in a national forest or museum. Haven't been in those areas but I'm more or less making the same drive likely in your time frame to Tennessee so I'll let you know what you missed out on lol

I don't know if this is too late and I'm not sure I can find any good information to direct you there, but...
There is some ruins of a fort south of Montreal that might be interesting.
My rough recollection of the story is due to a survey error somehow, they built the fort in the wrong spot kind of unofficially moving the international border at the time. I'll try to find a link, name or location if I can.
Edit 1:. Fort Montgomery.
Might be a bad suggestion as one person on the Google said you need a kayak to access it. Plus it's on the New York side of the river.

It's too far north. Leaving Niagara late Wednesday morning, have to make Halifax by noon Friday. 14 hours just in driving time, plus sleeping eating etc. So following pretty much a straight line across.
But Fort Montgomery map looks intriguing. Definitely worth a look on some other trip. Thanks, amigo!

Nerd's Paradise! And it only adds about 70 kilometers deviation. ACAM gaming museum is definitely on the shortlist! Thanks!
Other things that are on the short list include Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont, the First Amendment Museum in Augusta, Maine, the Old Post Office (also Augusta), Congress Park in Saratoga Springs.
Things that were on the short list but have been dropped include the Small Arms Experience in Charlestown (pretty expensive, don't want to blow the budget on the first day of the trip) and going to the track in Saratoga Springs (I can see that turning into four or five hours and just don't want to spend that much time on a single stop).

--------Also, when in Vermont, you could stop by Bernie Sanders' house...Not because of him, but it is probably a museum by now...He probably has a bigger American political collection, from his years of service...Than Biden has in his garage...If not now... Bernie's house will most likely be a museum someday...He is a Great American political figure......

Well, Day 1 done. Got to New Hampshire.
It's too late now to go to the Arcade. Hopefully they open reasonably early in the morning.
Did the drive-through of Green Mountain National Forest. Very nice, drive. Not much different from other places in the Appalachians, but this is one area I've never done before.
One thing that was really interesting is that although it's only late August, many trees were already changing colours. Fall comes early at these altitudes. Six degrees colder than at home, too.

The Arcade didn't open until noon. I wanted to skip it, but the wife persuaded me to wait for it. "You've been looking forward to this all week, you'll regret it if you don't go." She's wise.
Played Space Invaders for the first time in 43 or 44 years, I think! Also played the original Donkey Kong, the original Pac Man, Frogger, and Pong.
Only two games I was really looking forward to, Joust and BurgerTime. Sadly, they don't have BurgerTime. Joust they do have, but it was out of order.
The wife played Q-Bert and got on the high score list, although it wasn't a spectacular score and has probably been reset recently. Still, she's damn good at Q-Bert.
They also have pinball games, including a couple classics from my youth -- Mata Hari, and Captain Fantastic. Captain Fantastic was in the bar where we hung out in high school; playing it was really like taking a trip back in time.
Anyway, as a result of waiting for the Arcade to open, we had to bed down in Bangor, Maine, and will miss our luncheon in Halifax today. C'est la vie. We'll be in Halifax for five days, so we'll make up for it.
