When the UK last had a parliamentary election, it took 12 hours for the new PM to take over after the final certification of votes.

In France, it's been two months and the country is still being run by the losing prime minister because Manny Macron wasn't satisfied his party lost the election and so is simply refusing to appoint a new prime minister or to even acknowledge the communications of the leftist plurality coalition.

The leftist New popular front (NFP) has said it should run the government with prime minister nominee, Lucie Castets, after winning the most seats in parliament, but falling short of a majority.

Macron had until now ignored Castets’ nomination.

In a statement from his office, Macron said an NFP government would threaten “institutional stability”, as it would not survive a confidence vote from centrist and right wing parties, because the alliance includes the hard-left France unbowed (LFI), founded by Jean-Luc Melenchon, which has been branded as extreme.

This is what the West means when it talks about "democracy." If a neoliberal party wins it immediately is put in power. If an anti-institutional party wins, it's declared extreme and excuses and impediments are raised to prevent the realization of the popular will.

The UK is much more efficient and skilled than France, that is for sure. That's why people from around the world want to move to London whereas Paris is just a protest encampment disguised as a city.

The UK does, however, have a voting system like the US's, where by design a minority party is never going to get voted into power in the first place. It's easy for a rubber-stamp parliament to ratify elections quickly.

A Tale of Two Pities...
I agree, London certainly did spread it's legs wide in the name of global commerce. Brexit was basically a form of vagina retightening surgery, but frankly, closing the barndoors (so to speak) after all the livestock got in, is a day late and a dollar, [ pound, yuan short. At least, definitely not a euro though right?

Paris actually has better 'bones', but indeed, it too has fallen. Will the spirit of Saint Louis Neuvième ever rise again to defend the True Cross?
True Story: First time I ever heard of Euro-Disneyland, I just assumed it was the latest hipster nickname for Paris.

GREAT

The radical left party La France Insoumise (LFI) on Saturday, August 31, asked other political groupings to back its long-shot bid to impeach President Emmanuel Macron for "serious failings" in his constitutional duties.
