Thanks guys for your replies so far. Please do try and provide details as requested to save me time researching if you didn't.

And to those of you who are freemium - I advise you to keep one slot minimum spare so you are able to join the team when the games are created. Cheers

1st Round line-ups

Doubles #1 - rockfist, Prince_Tottenham
Doubles #2 - Chariot of Fire, giuseo
Triples #1 - rockfist, igotaished, eurosport
Triples #2 - rockfist, AtreidesHouse, Dudi
Quads #1 - Chariot of Fire, Silvertop, hotitigers, weaselshane
Quads #2 - Chariot of Fire, the flip, eurosport, AtreidesHouse

Some players have more games than others. Myself, for instance, as the captain who would like to get to know each of you better and see how you go. Then there are the players with a lot of experience such as rockfist and AtreidesHouse. Players not selected are those who didn't reply to PMs or wall posts with one exception, Prince_Tottenham, who I've included based on a recommendation by a team mate.

Invites have gone out. Please join your game(s) promptly.

ā€¢12 Hour Fog rule is in effect during the entire tournament

See you in game chat and best of luck to all :D

I cannot choose players in future who :

* Don't communicate
* Don't take a snapshot after their turn
* Don't fort at all
* Don't try to win a card

We cannot win if we don't play as a team.

Yep, looks that way. I'm not really surprised tbh.

But if we do win a trips & quad we'll only lose 5-7 on points.

Next round we will be stronger, trust me.

I am resigning from the team after this first round of games is complete. You will need to find a replacement captain from amongst yourselves. Thanks.

Sounds like CoF is feeling a little frustrated with some of the noobs on his team.
Chariot of Fire wrote:I am resigning from the team after this first round of games is complete. You will need to find a replacement captain from amongst yourselves. Thanks.

CoF, I have no horse in this race. I'm not on your team and I really don't care if you win or lose. But if you'll listen to me for just one minute, I honestly think you shouldn't quit.

I know playing team games with people who aren't used to team games is difficult and frustrating. I've played games with random team-mates. It can be incredibly frustrating. I think for someone like you, who is accustomed to high-level play with the discipline practised in your top-notch clan, to be exposed to this kind of thing is quite a culture shock. It's a culture shock on both sides -- while you're shocked by playing with players who have never encountered the discipline of top-tier clan play, they are no doubt shocked by encountering that discipline for the first time. But culture shock is often a prelude to learning, and learning can go both ways. Obviously, the lesser players can learn a lot from you. What is not so obvious, but also true, is that you can learn from them. You're not learning anything new in the ivory tower of Top-10 clan games. To step out of the ivory tower and wander among the peasantry is good for you. When you engage people who aren't used to engaging, you expand your abilities and your mind. It takes patience and perseverance, but when you finally break through, it's rewarding as hell. In addition to your own mind-expansion, you may be training one of the top players of tomorrow.

Like I said, makes no difference to me whether your team wins or loses. I'm only thinking of what's good for the community, and it's good for the community for people to step outside their comfort zone, meet new people, and take on new challenges. A mixed brigade like this is a good thing, even if it doesn't always feel that way. I hope you decide to stay.

Excellent post as always Dukasaur, thank you. I've played in a couple of tourneys before (long time ago mind you) where you're thrown in with random team mates each round and did just fine, winning Feudal and runner-up in Waterloo, so I'm no stranger to the format or the mistakes that may be made. The difference on those occasions was that the players knew what they were getting into before signing-up.

This is a tourney played on a large map in fog, with escalating cards in the two quads games. When half the squad either won't or don't take snaps then the odds of winning are drastically reduced as trades inevitably go 25+ by the end of R5. I've tried my best to get to every game after every turn so I can take a snapshot and also make suggestions for the next player, but it's eating up all my time and losing me sleep. For this reason - not this one alone mind you - I can no longer take responsibility and thus don't wish to participate any longer.

If you were aboard the Titanic at Southampton dock and knew what was going to happen wouldn't you jump ship?

There are some quality players in the squad, but not enough to make us competitive and this is not the time or place to start a training academy, sorry for that. I did my best (creating this thread was just one example) yet it wasn't good enough.

I've also just quit smoking so my temper is on an even shorter fuse than normal :lol:

Cheers

With each passing month it gets a little easier. The cravings never go away completely -- addiction is for life -- but they do eventually become negligible. With each passing month they get weaker and you get stronger.

Bravo!

I'm actually haunted by the words my best friend's father once said. "You don't quit on one day. You quit every day for the rest of your life". That's how addictive it is.
