[8-May-2008] Tournament Forum Improvements

Postby Night Strike on Thu May 08, 2008 7:34 pm

Greetings tournament participants. We Tournament Directors have put together a string of projects that we hope will improve everyone's tournament experience. So without further ado........

Reserves Threads

There have been an increase in the number of threads located in the Create/Join forum that are requesting reserves for specific tournaments. In order to keep attention on the new tournaments that are recruiting and to keep the forum clean, we have developed new criteria for posting Reserves threads.

  • The thread title must include a [Reserves] tag. This will easily separate the active tournaments from those still recruiting.
  • The first post needs to include information on the # of reserves needed, the game settings, and a link to the main thread.
  • Reserve threads will be moved to Archives after 1 week in the Create/Join forum. If you are finished with the thread earlier than that, please mark it with a [CLOSED] tag in the thread title and a Tournament Director will move it sooner.
  • Here's an example post:

Thread Title: [RESERVES] Point Grabbers VII

In Post: I am looking for 3 players who are interested in playing in the Point Grabbers VII tournament. The games are 1 vs 1 with flat rate cards and chained fortifications. If you would like to join the fun, please post in the thread linked below, or contact Optimus Prime with a PM.

Thread: Point Grabbers VII Main Thread

On a similar note, we are no longer going to allow organizers to host a public notice list or a revolving reserves request thread. You'll need to keep any compiled lists on your own. For publicizing your tournaments outside of your recruitment thread, please use PMs or the Tournament Newsletter. If you need to keep a large notice list on hand for your use as an organizer, please consider using the PM Draft feature of your Inbox. It can store all sorts of lists and data as long as needed. We apologize to those that are affected, but it is in the best interest of keeping the Create/Join forum as clean as possible.

Prize Donation Policy

There have been many organizers who have generously purchased a premium membership for the winner of their tournaments. When this happens, Conquer Club also donates a year of premium membership for the organizer to use for the same tournament, or a future tournament. This process has been confusing for some in the past, but that confusion should be coming to an end. Lack and the Tournament Directors have opened The Tournament Premium Bank, and every organizer is welcome to open an account. For account details and requirements, please visit the Tournament Handbook.

Tournament Newsletter Improvements

Many thanks to all of you organizers who have been actively recruiting subscriptions to the Conquer Club Tournament Newsletter. Due to the rapid growth of the newsletter, we are proud to recognize Gozar as the Editor-In-Chief of the Tournament Newsletter. He has volunteered over 4 months of his time and effort to provide our members with an excellent product that provides great information on upcoming, active, and completed tournaments. He has done a great work on his own, and now has the tools needed to take the newsletter to the next level. Please DO NOT send privilege requests and other TD concerns to him; only newsletter ideas/submissions. We look forward to the continued success and expansion of the Conquer Club Tournament Newsletter under Gozar's watch.

Tournament Handbook Revisions

Our Tournament Handbook has undergone some revisions. The current sections of the handbook have received some much needed updates and there are new sections including Tournament Player Etiquette, Reserve Thread Policy, and Prize Donation Policy. Furthermore, we have now provided you with the option of downloading the handbook as a PDF file. Feel free to take advantage of having the handbook in an easy to save and print format. Please take a moment to stop by the thread to refresh yourselves on our policies and resources.

Hall of Tournament Winners

Optimus Prime's pet project, the Hall of Tournament Winners, has a new recognition. Along with the tournament winners, the organizer for each tournament is also given recognition for their time and effort in hosting the event. Please take a moment to view the accomplishments of others.

Image and Game Tags

In case anyone was not aware, the forum has a few great tags to help keep your posts organized and get players into the proper games faster.

  • The [ list] tag can be used to easily create an organized list of player, games, etc. in your posts. NOTE: Be sure to delete that extra space in the tag.
  • The [BigImg] tag is available to easily post large spreadsheets and other images. Please use this tag for large images rather than the traditional [Img] tag.
  • The [Player] tag is a simple tag that will immediately provide a link to the player's profile rather than having to post a URL to the profile.
  • The [Game] tag provides a quick link to the game. Just include the game number between the tags, and the link will take a player to either the Join Game screen (if unfilled) or the game itself (if filled).

We would like to strongly encourage the use of the new [Game] tags when running tournaments in order to speed the process along for players joining games and checking in on other games in their respective tournaments.

------------------------------------------

Thanks for everybody's participation in the forums. Good luck in all your tournament endeavors.
