Life Ain't Fair: Exert Some Control Now recruiting- get in under the wire! Not everything in life is out of our control. We influence everything around us, and the other people around us have influence in our lives, too. So I present the
Life Ain't Fair: Exert Some Control tournament. Every setting will be randomized, including how many players in each game, but everyone who signs up will influence all the setting selections. Each player will play 3 games (5 in the final two rounds) in each round, and be awarded points based on how many people s/he beat in each game. The top half (by points) of the field will move on to the next round. Points will not carry over from round to round. The final round will be the first round with 4 or less players remaining.
Freemiums welcome, but must keep 3 slots open for this tournament. I will user random.org to generate the randomness required for this tournament.
If any freemium players make either of the final two rounds, 3 games will be sent out to start those rounds, then the other 2 as possible. If no freemium makes it to those rounds, all 5 games will be sent out at once.
Number of entrants: Any, minimum of 16 Map: Random, weighted by participants' selections Number of Players Per Game: Any allowed choice , randomly selected, based on what makes sense for that game (quads game can't have 7 people, if there's only 6 people left to be assinged, etc) Game Type: All of them, randomly selected, weighted by participants' selections Play Order: Either sequential or freestyle, weighted by particpants' selections Troop Deployment: Either manual or automatic, randomly selected, weighted by participants' selections Spoils: All choices, weighted by participants' selections Reinforcements: All choices, randomly selected, weighted by by participants' selections Special Gameplay: Maybe foggy, maybe trenchy, randomly selected, weighted by participants' selections Round Limit: 20, 30, 50, or 100 rounds, semi-randomly (see Minutia section) selected, weighted by participants' selections - "None" will not be an option, I'd like to be sure this tournament ends eventually. Round Length: This is the only option that will not be randomized. No speed games. You may select any preference of
any of the above settings, save round length. There is no guarantee you will see all, or any, of your setttings in any game, but as you progress, your selections become more likely. If you list no preference for a setting, I will assume your preference is "random" for that setting.
show: Details
How it'll work: I'll randomly (weighted) select a game type, then randomly select the number of players who will be playing in that game (from the allowed choices, of course- if it's Quads game, it obviously need to be populated by exactly 8 people), then randomly populate that game with players. Once that's done, I'll create more games with the players who have not yet been assigned a game. Once the list of players has been exhausted, I'll repeat this twice more (4x more for the final 2 rounds).(If you have more questions about this process, please see the "Minutiae" section below.)How much weight? For game type and # of players, 33% chance of complete randomness, 33% will be drawn from everyone who joined the tournament's selections, 33% from those who made it to the current round. For all other settings, 25% chance of complete randomness, 25% from everyone in the tournament's selections, 25% from those who made it to the current round, and 25% from those participating in that game. (I know this section can be worded more clearly, but it's escaping me at the moment).Points: Points will be awarded as follows (also see IF section):Standard games: For Terminator games 1 point will be awarded for each player eliminated. Additionally, points will be awarded for placing thusly: Any player surviving to the end of a terminator game, either through victory or round limit, will receive an additional point. For Assassin games , the winner will receive (2 x number of players) points (16 for an 8 player game, 14 for 7 player, etc). For team games : For Quads, Trips, & 2-team Doubles games, each player on the winning team will receive 4 points. For 3-team Doubles, each player on the 1st place team will receive 4.5 points & each player on the 2nd place team will receive 1.5 points. For a 4-team Doubles game, each player on 1st place team will receive 5 points, each on 2nd gets 2, & each on 3rd gets 1 (this follows the last 3 columns in the Standard game point chart).
show: additional rules
12 hour rule All 2-player games will observe the 12 hour rule: If you are the first player to act in a a 2-player game, You must wait at least 12 hours to take your turn in the first round. (Exceptions granted for build boards, or if the 2nd player to act has explicitly stated in game chat s/he has seen the board).Ties Ties within games : If 2 or more people are eliminated simultaneously in a game, the points for those places will be averaged & given equally to those players (e.g., If there 4 people left in a 6 player standard game, & 2 players are nuked out of existence on the same play of cards, the 3rd & 4th place points (2 and 1, respectively), will be averaged, and each player will receive 1.5 points. If 2 or more players remain when the round limit is reached, the tournament will treat all players who survive as tied, regardless of how CC awards victory. Round-level ties : If a non-trivial (i.e, if some of the players involved in the tie would move on, but others would not) tie exists after a round is complete, all tied players involved in a non-trivial tie would play one game to break the tie. This game would use the same random settings as the other games, but team games would not be selected from, even if possible.Final round ties If a tie exists for 1st place following the final round, all players tied for 1st place will play 3 additional games to determine the winner, using the same point structure as the main tournament. No team games will be used in such a tiebreaker, even if possible.Reserve Policy There will be no reserves needed to start this tournament. If someone signs up after the tournament has started, s/he will be added to reserve list. If a player does not join assigned games after 2 invites, a reserve will be used. The reserve pool will be first drawn from anyone who signed up after the tournament started, but has yet to participate, in the order they signed up. Next, from all players eliminated in the previous round, best scores being used first. Then the previous round, and so on. In the event the the reserve pool is exhausted, new games will be created without that player, as closely matching the setting of the dead game as possible (if the original was a team game, this will not be possible). Points will be awarded in that game as if the new game had 1 extra person & the offender was eliminated first. If the orginal was a 1v1 game, the other player will be awarded a victory & 4 tournament points. Congratulations! If you have not joined your games after 2 invitations, you will be removed from the tournament.
show: Minutiae
For all rounds except the final two rounds, each player will be assigned 3 games. Each player will be assigned a game before the the 2nd set of games will be created, & each player will be assigned 2 games before the 3rd is created. While in most cases each game type will have a chance of being selected, this will be modified if there are 9, or less than 8 players yet to be assigned a game- a Quads game will not be selected in either case (if there are 9 players left to be assigned, a quads game cannot be created because the remaining player would not to able to be assigned a game). Likewise, Trips games would not be created if there were 7, or less than 6 players left to be assigned; Doubles if 5, or less than 4. ----------- "semi-randomly" - If a game has sequential turn order [b]and reaches more than 2 points using the following schedule a 100 round game will not be allowed. If it reaches at least 4 points, a 50 round game will not be allowed: 2 - large(or random) map 1 each - 6 or more players, trench 0.5 - adjacent reinforcements 0.25 each- fog, nuclear spoils, no spoils
show: IF
IF 9, 10, 11, & 12 player games become available during the course of this tournament, they will be allowed. Points will be awarded for team games following the standard point schedule, substituting the number of teams instead of players. Assassin games will follow the same pattern as above... 24 (!) points for winning a 12 player Assassin game, pretty much a guarantee of moving to the next round, if it happens. I'll post an if schedule for 9-12 player standard & terminator games as soon as I figure out one I'm happy with.
TL;DR:
Join tournament by posting in this thread in the usual manner.
If you wish, select your preferences of any game settings (1 selection per setting, please) - your selections will influence the randomness.
Score points by doing well in your assigned games

Yes, but just like the other settings, it only influences the selection. No guarantees.
