THIS IS NOT AN ACTUAL TOURNAMENT THREAD, DO NOT SIGN UP HERE!
Hi all!
With the next Winter Olympics coming soon (Feb. 7th!), I thought it would be fun to organize a series of tournaments to lead us up to the actual event. This is a tournament series, not just one big tournaments with 80+ events inside of it. To keep things fairly simple and not give me a migraine looking and a long list of events and games, I've taken the list of the 15 Winter Olympics sport disciplines and given them each their own tournament. This means that if you want to compete in all the sports, you would need to join all 15 tournaments that will be added over the course of the next few months.
SCHEDULE:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuFdTWbFRRumdE5fWU1EN19RMkVyMXljb2I1YWpzRGc#gid=0
Each tournament is set up to be as much like the actual format of one of the events of that discipline. As each tournament starts signups, the tournament thread will include the minimum amount of participants, how qualification rounds (if needed) will work, and the maps/play styles used.
There will be 9 single-player tournaments, 3 doubles, and 3 triples tournaments. Counting each member of a team, there will be 24 tournament winners overall that will be invited to the Grand Finale of the tournament. See below for more info on that.
PLAYERS:
Because each tournament will be it's own, players will need to sign up for each individual tournament as it comes up. Naturally, since this is an Olympic tournament, each player will be able to choose a world country to play as. This will happen with the first tournament, and players will be able to reserve their country for their own use throughout the whole series of tournaments. In the team tournaments, teams will be allowed to use a country reserved by any of their team members.
Each tournament will require a different number of minimum players, and it will be first-come first serve. Each tournament will be posted on a Saturday, according to the above schedule, so watch out for them!
GRAND FINALE:
The winners (and winning team members) will be invited to a special Grand Finale tournament, in which several formats will be used (from the previous series tournaments) to qualify a top 8 of the 24, who will then play bracket-style to determine the over-all Olympic winner.
THE WINNER of the Grand Finale will win a ONE YEAR premium prize, as well as a General Achievement medal. (This has been approved.)
In addition, the player with the most overall medals won (gold, silver, or bronze from any of the 15 series tournaments) will also win a General Achievement medal. (Approved as well!)
Stay tuned - the first tournament of the series will be posted today!
