Add Confirmation Dialogue when End Phase Button is Pressed

Postby CreepyUncleAndy on Mon Mar 05, 2007 9:08 am

Numerous times players have "accidentally" hit the End Attacks or End Fortification buttons, effectively throwing the game for themselves.

I propose that whenever a button is hit that ends a phase, the player is prompted to confirm the action thusly:

End Attacks -- CONFIRM? (Yes) / (No)

End Fortifications -- CONFIRM? (Yes) / (No)

Implement this, and you will never see another post about how some fool effed themselves by hitting the wrong button.

If you check out this thread at the top of the general discussion thread:
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8801

There is a confirmation script. If people have a problem hitting the wrong button they can use this.

For me, a confirmation dialog would be even more annoying than suggestions like yours!

"End Fortification" button UI safety

Postby shadowphiar on Mon Apr 28, 2008 4:23 pm

Summary: in the fortification phase of a turn, if the player sets the pop-up menus to non-default values and then clicks "End Fortification", put up an "Are you sure?" dialog.

Description: I've played a few games and made one particular mistake several times already. I don't think I'm alone in making it - I'm playing with a few friends and they've complained about doing the same thing. That is, after finishing attacks for a turn, you carefully set up a fortification of n armies from some place to another place - and then spoil it all by pressing the wrong "End Fortification" button instead of "Fortify" thus leaving your armies in the wrong place.

As I see it there are two problems with the UI at the moment: firstly, from the perspective of being a Mac user, all the "OK" buttons are consistently on the right side of dialog boxes; this means I have to overcome my muscle memory in order to hit the correct button. Secondly, it is not clear from the title of the button alone, exactly what its effect is; ending a phase neither implies committing nor cancelling user interface changes made in the meantime.

There are two changes you could make to the site which would mitigate this.

The easiest would be to retitle the "End Fortification" button to something more explicit, such as "Cancel Fortification" or "No Fortification".

A more involved (but more reliable) change would be to add a "safety catch" to the End Fortification button: if (and only if) the user has changed some of the pop-up menus away from their default values, it is quite likely they intend to fortify. Thus in those circumstances if they press the "End Fortification" button, it would be reasonable to ask for confirmation with an additional "Are You Sure?" box, since the chances are that they have made a mistake.

Using the BOB script for Greasemonkey can bring up those notifications for you. Go to the Plug-ins & Add-one Forum in General Discussion. you'll be able to get them there.

Confirmation on Completion of Fortification

Postby gimpy on Sat Jul 12, 2008 10:17 pm

I would really like to see a confirmation message at the end of attacks and fortification.
So many times I have accidentally end attacks or fortification because I play a bit at work and sometimes am distracted by my pesky job. :D
Then without even looking, I hit the wrong button. OOOps.

BOB will do that for you. And I really hope that it will never be forced upon us, could be an option though.

What you really want is some sort of AI to detect whether you meant to click the button: "Now would be a stupid time to End Attacks/Fortifications; are you sure you're ready to end your turn? |OK|Cancel|"

Confirm before ending assaults or reinforcement

Postby Syr1nx on Sun Nov 16, 2008 8:27 pm

Concise description:
Basically just a yes or no before committing to end your assaults or reinforcements.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
I've already accidentally hit end several times, and it is perhaps the most annoying thing I have encountered so far.

End of round/turn confirmation

Postby Boniman on Sun Apr 29, 2012 2:32 pm

Just a suggestion for confirming your end of attacks/reinforcements. I can't tell you how many times I've clicked end of attacks instead of attack. I know its stupid but would be an easy add on to prevent accidental end of turns. I'm sure we've all done it.

Are you sure to end move and re-inforcement

Postby delboy01 on Sat Jun 30, 2012 12:13 pm

An are you sure question after end move/ end re-inforcement

Concise description:
  • Add an 'are you sure button after end move. Laptop users that scroll over 'end move' can select end their move by mistake. Adding an are you sure question will help prevent this. Same after end fort.

That's a good idea, the problem is that people can get easily fed up of this, plus people who play freestyle they won't like the idea....

Well atleast you have this option with BOB (included in end assaults)

just download BOB from the "tools and enhancements" forum and when you enter a game you will see "confirmations" in the BOB menu. you can set up the ones you want active from there.

I thought it was a nice feature of BOB for a while, but I quickly got tired of it. I can see why some people would like it as an option, but I'm not sure this is the best use of programming resources. I imagine even among those with BOB installed, many or most have disabled this feature as I have.

IMPLEMENTED as part of the panel interface addition. You may turn it on in your settings.
