Better to be pissed off than pissed on

Postby Gweeedo on Thu Dec 05, 2013 1:52 pm

Is this game really that awesome that a guy (good rating and skilled player) will get so pissed off when somebody foils his (basic, silly) plan.

I am fairly new to this game, I stated as much in one of my games.
13686230

While in a game, a player decided to try and limit my maneuverability (limit my terits to one region).
Not a bad plan (cheap).
So basic, not likely It would go unseen (newbe and all).

Escalating, Classic well into the game.
He takes all my Card spots in one turn..he was poised to take my last terit that had potential for a card spot (was totally separated from the rest of my terits)
Lucky enough I had a set worth 80 units.
I had two other region with a bunch of units on it, across the other side of the map, with no potential card spot.

He was hoping to eliminate me on that side of the board in the hopes that I would be forced to assault another players big stack in order to get a card.

So I took my freshly built units (80) and assaulted him...what else would a person do?
I had to assault his 20 stack...went better than planned! He had one more region next to me, I see that he had set.
So I decided to eliminate any possible threat..I assaulted his other stack of 30 units. Tore him to pieces! He cried like a baby and started talking his shit.
Then he Suicided on me (of course)...what is the matter with some of these people.
Of course he was blaming me all the while.

Barny Rubble is his name, Conquers club is not his game.
Pathetic loser.

I am sure this game is full of players like him.
Honestly, is that all you got! Crazy!!!

It's hard to tell you what should or should not have happened in the game you played as we are not in it and can't possibly know every dynamic of the game at every point.

In escalating he may have been trying to protect your last region from anyone else killing it...yes he was planning on probably killing you eventually.

Suiciding into another player because of feelings and emotions is usually the quickest way to lose a game so I wouldn't let that control your play in the future.

Escalating is about preserving troops as much as possible. When cashes get high enough take out a player and get a mid turn cash so you can go on a kill run. You keep killing players for their cards where the cards reward you with more troops than it cost to kill them and that is how you win those games.

Classic Esc Speed game round 15 read the log .I took two singles from Stokholm and Moscow to reposition two large stacks to one spot .Fifty-six troops to be exact .I left singles behind me and a path to North America for any who wanted it .
You cashed for Eighty troops dropped them all on Berlin and took out my stack for no other reason
than as you stated to get a card . You had no plan .You had no thought as to taking my cards .You had no clue .its obvious you dont understand the game at all given your account of the situation .I urge you to go back to the game .......and read the log from round 13 on......slowly.....and carefully ....
I did not trap you .I did not have two stacks that you claim you hit one after another .I had one stack on one tert( Moscow). You held Berlin already and you had two singles card spots one Istanbul the other Stockholm that I left you !
You crippled me cut my troop count by a third in a game where all players were up at 130 plus troops and 3 cards at least and the cash was 85 .
For those of us that have been here for any length of time the term " Noobed" comes to mind at this point
Luckily for me the 3 cards I was holding happened to be a set . I cashed and wiped you off the board less 2 troops .
As for the personal attack in this forum pretty childish to say the least
Maybe I can direct you to The Society of Cooks for some direction on how to play the game and to
Dr Phil for the rest of your issues

Let us go one turn before that. You took me out of Africa, I found that perplexing. You then assaulted my position in Europe (after I assaulted a neutral the previous turn, to get a card).
You grabbed two of my terits in Europe. You had two (big) Armies on each terit that you took.
I was wondering why you had only mentioned the 50 units, in chat.
A card spot is a terit with one single opposing unit on it...not my own unit. You did not leave me a card spot! Of course I do not go right after you, so It not really your job to do so.
But whoa to you if I do not have a card spot...being that you are crouching me.

Can You tell me what 'term' comes to mind at the point you went all Kamikaze?
Talk about childish!
Not to mention your flying off the handle F*** this F*** that (sign of ignorance, you know)

Your maneuvers on the board and your continual advancement into my position was a clear violation on me and my people.
I am certain (by your quick temper) that you would of felt the same as I, being slowly reduced to a single area...surrounded by Huge enemy forces.
Had I no set at that particular time I would have been forced to assault some other moke..any chance he would of been more forgiving than you.

I posted this in an attempt to find out why people like you go Crazy in a simple game..when their plan falls apart.
I believe this is the only game you play on line?

Again Gweedo
Read the Log real.......slow and careful......
I hit a single in Africa when the cash was sixty or so
You hit me in Madrid on your turn ....( a single)
Not going too fast for yeh am I ?
Next round you hit a nuetral your choice no one elses......
For such a " simple game" your grasp of the basics of Speed Esc ....are ...we lets just say ....limited
As for the rest of the crap ........,,,,

WOW, you are good. Maybe I can have you explain to me,( some of my other games) what the strength of the terits were before attacked.
Maybe my understanding of this game is limited. Why is it your stats are no better than mine?
How is your Kamikaze (suicidal) reaction any diff than what you accuse me of doing.
I supposedly ruined the game for you so you in turn ruin it for everybody else. You Are in error.
and that is why you are a underrated player.

Stop crying about how I (a noob) misread your aggression.
As a so called vet player you should know what is going on around you.
You should know better than to provoke a noob!
You attacked more than one of my card spots...that is good enough to declare war on your ass! get over it.
You drew first blood...and you paid the price, Scum!

Gweeedo, the problem is that when you hit another player's stack in Escalating, you're usually handing the game to a third player. I don't know what the board looked like before Barney's turn, but if he only took two 1-spots, your reaction was fairly extreme, and it helped lead to your loss. You can't afford to get mad in a game like this. It clouds your judgment and makes you do things you wouldn't normally do. Hitting stacks when you're not going for the elimination and a recash should only be done for specific reasons, not out of revenge.

I agree with you.
There is much to consider.
He took my card spots, the only card spots I had. (there is no question that I needed a card).
If I had not a set at that particular time.
I would of been reduced to a small area and forced to assault another player, with a even bigger stack (being that my huge stack was across the other side of the board).

Although he could of been wright maybe he did leave one unit on one of the terits (out of the two).
I do believe he blocked me...looked to me like 11 units.
Regardless, I am sure (had I not turned in a set) he would of eliminated me out of that region entirely on his next turn, being that I had insignificant forces.
Forcing me to fight for a card.

Believe me...that move was not out of rage.
Or getting even. My train of thought was to prevent him from doing (what I believed) what he had intended to do in the first place.
Sure I know now It was a bit extreme.
But what you going to do when you test the waters out (my assaulting him) and I do not lose one unit until half his force is eliminated.
I figured on getting him away from me.

My assault against him was not a game ender!
He did the exact thing you are telling me I should not have (supposedly)done?
You can read the chat log and see that Barney was Irrational and suicidal along with vindictive, rude.
As well as others thanking him (not me) for ruining the game.
Like I said, twas not a game ender at this point. I viewed the unit count all the while...giving nobody a clear advantage.

It is true, I am still learning the way most officers play classic.
Had he took my (only) card spot, I could have asked another player to move his big stack in order to acquire a card spot.
I did not know the game mechanics are set in such a polite manner.

Although I do remember looking to see if that was possible (other player politely moving to give me a card spot)...don't thing it was, no place for any other player to move out (forcing me to assault).

I understand why Classic is played this way.
From my observation it is not because it is the winning strategy!

Viewing Barny's rating...He has a response for every single bad rating he has ever received (really)!

I am not really trying to talk shit about a fellow gamer.
It is my hope that maybe I can reach him somehow.
A guy like this is so full of himself that he does not listen to reason...that accounts for is rude behavior.

Much like some others that get soo pissed of when others do not play according to house rules.
Who the hell is going to know about such things (house rules).

And no I do not need to go to the learning academy for cooks (or what ever it is called) to learn how that particular game is played.
You will just have to except it, when a noob joins in one of your (open for public) games, that there is a learning curve, he might not understand how you guys prefer to play this game.

I have found that when you join a classic escalating game full of officers it is played a certain way.
Same with more NCO's (non commission officers...non-officers) than officers, the game is played totally diff (more like flat rate).

Either suits me, but I prefer the officers way of playing.
Not because it is believed to be the winning strategy (cuz I do not believe it is), but because it brings balance to the game.

Yeah, Gweeedo, if I'm in an Escalating game, and it's towards the end and I don't have a set and no easy card spot, I have to hit something to get a card, so right, I'll probably have to hit a stack somewhere. I try to hit a stack that's relatively small and won't weaken another player to the point that they can be easily eliminated.

You were playing a speed game, though, so I totally get that you might make a snap decision there based on feelings of revenge. I don't think that's the best recourse, but then again, when I play speed (which is seldom), I know I don't always make the smartest play either.

You're right about different styles of play among higher ranked players and lower ranked players. I find escalating games with higher ranks to be tougher overall because they're generally more patient and play smarter. With some lower ranked players in the mix, someone's going to do something unconventional and create opportunities, like go for a bonus on Round 8, opening up the board for someone else to run the table. Those kinds of opportunities are almost non-existent when higher ranks play, making it more of a number crunch than anything else.

To answer your original question, I guess it is. My rating took a dive from a guy I was in two games with. He either put me down for the one where I won...or in another one where a guy was trying to get me to do his dirty work against him and I didn't...but then later weakened his hold on N. America playing my own game.
