For all of you my google-impaired friends, here goes a quote:

Today I finished Revolt of the Cockroach People by Oscar Zeta Acosta, who was a zealous Chicano attorney who defended a lot of political cases, who ran for L.A. County Sheriff in the '60's, and who subpoenaed every single judge in the State of California, essentially stating that they were all racist, especially with regards to choosing grand juries. (This happened when a prominent Chicano leader, Corky Gonzales, was on trial for conspiracy to incite a riot, which happened in the aftermath of the killing of a Chicano journalist, Ruben Salazar.) Zeta is actually the inspiration from which Hunter S. Thompson created Dr. Gonzo, a character in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

But it is a deep, deep book, and reading it really helps in making sense of L.A.(not to claim that I have any sense of it, though I have to say, I know more than I did before) and history in general, and I cannot hope to do justice to it in the space of a pathetic little blog entry, but I will pull out snippets of what touched me.

La vida no es la que vivimos, la vida es el honor y el recuerdo. Por eso mas vale morir con el pueblo vivo, y no vivir con el pueblo muerto. Life is not as it seems, life is pride and personal history. Thus it is better that one die and that the people should live, rather than one live and the people die.) -- A sign hanging by the door in the chapel in Delano in which Cesar Chavez fasted, originally from an inscription marking where Lopitos was assassinated outside of Acapulco.

It seems as though you stumbled upon a book review, but it does let us know that it is reference to Cesar E. Chavez which makes me think he is a character in this game. The inscription is from a church in Delano where, during a 25 day spiritual fast, Chavez wrote his speech "The Mexican-American and the Church". I can't seem to find anything on this "Lopitos". The book was written by Oscar Zeta Acosta ( who is best known as the inspiration of Dr. Gonzo in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, if you have read or seen this movie, I am sure you can figure out how out there this guy is).

So unless we can find anything on Lopitos, then I assume this is just a clue in reference to Chavez.

Oh...

I just understood it as a simple "it's better that someone, anyone, be lynched as long as their death helps the survival of the town in some way" or something

oh well.

Hmmm. Well then is it Chavez trying to reveal himself or someone else trying to clue us in that Chavez is around? The last time I saw something like this was Athkatla with the opposing gods. I'm wondering if that's in play this game. Either way, the poem en espanol seems kind of obscure. I see it as either a clue from someone with a post restriction or something useless meant to throw us off.

kinda or you could take it like is better to sacrifice one (even if is oneself) for the sake of people (kinda numbers justice), than save our own asses and let many die.

Hmm. I remember reading about that Oscar guy in a compilation of Hunter S Thompson articles but I kinda doubt it's a hint regarding a role. If anything, it might tell more about the player that sent this message :P I don't think it's very relevant.

it sounds pretty much like one of the unwritten rules of mafia: "any lynch is better than a no-lynch"...

perhaps skoffin is... doing something really clever that will make us all... feel... different, for having played the game.

or maybe she's just toying with us :x

I found something, I believe Lopitos refers to "The King Lopitos (El Rey Lopitos)" An activist in Acapulco, real name Alfredo López, he was assassinated, and I think his son is currently mayor of Acapulco.

5th you already know what your role is. >>

Game going too slow for so many people, start posting before I impose a deadline. Once that deadline is in place I am not removing it so get into gear.

Skoffin your evil plot is working. You have at leas me confused. Unvote Fircoal

BTW it said a "booming voice" so I'm pretty sure that it's a male voice that said it. Usually female voices are more along the lines of shrill.

If those people would be active, it wouldn't be slow, now would it?

Ok so what next. Are we gonna dabble on this spanish clue given to us by the mod or shall we lynch someone. I think the first coincides with the second.

Got it. :D

Anyway, by logic of 5th's Law, (and to keep the game rolling), I will vote dito.

"DING DING DING"
Suddenly everyone could hear this light ringing, it appears someone has been able to fix up the old abandoned PA system. A clear male voice could be heard coming through the speakers, the same booming voice from earlier in the day.

I used to rule the world
seAs would rise when i gave the word
now in the Morning i sleep aLOne
sweep the stReets i used to own

i useD to roll the dice
feel the fear in my enemies eyes
listen as the crowd would sing:
"now the old king is dead! long liVe the king!"

One minute i heLD thE key
next the walls were closed on Me
and I discOvered that my castles stand
upon pillaRs of salT, and pillars of sand

I've been busy this past weekend and my computer's virus protection ran out [I'm having some issues downloading a replacement] My apologies for not being as active as I should. I'll try to improve starting now.

Even if this message doesn't necessarily mean he's scum, I suppose I'll use a minor application of 5th's law. Because frankly, this is the first slight bit of evidence that anyone here is scum that we have seen all game.

Uhmm dito... Cesar Chavez would be a good guy, as he was a civil rights activist... Your vote seems terribly scummy...

And your vote wasn't within the rules, so...

Skinoff's obviously pissed off at LoVo for voting her. She's trying to get him lynched as a form of revenge.
