Reposting this because it's important. I'm not talking about rights. Neither should anyone else. The Fourteenth Amendment isn't about rights. It simply says that you cannot write a law that only applies to some subset of the population, that discriminates against others due to some arbitrary standard. It may be convenient for you to paint our position as defending marriage as a right because that is easier to attack, but I'm not doing that. I would be just as happy if
no one was allowed to enter into a state-sanctioned marriage. As long as everyone follows the same rules, it's constitutional.
Except, ironically enough, but authorizing the "defense of marriage" act, etc they actually move toward making it a right under law.. and therefore even more subject to the charge of discrimination, not less.

Tea partiers are for states rights. The people who live there make constitutional (hopefully) laws that they want to live under. You are so far past incorrect information and any credibility.

For the umpteenth time, the states rights issue is irrelevant if it is unconstitutional to allow marriage for straight couples but not gay couples. States should never have the right to implement unconstitutional policies.

So far it looks like heterosexuals are still getting married in NY, so the arguments about it being an "attack on traditional marriage" seem a bit defunct.
No major breakdown in social order or erosion of morality yet visible either. Time will tell, though, I suppose. It seems unlikely at the moment that giving homosexuals equal rights will actually cause any problems, but that's just my opinion, and the opinion of most Americans, and a fact.
Also, New York still seems unlikely to pass legislation legalising bestiality and/or incest. About as unlikely as it was before passing same sex marriage. It almost seems like the issues are unrelated.

The biggest attack on marriage is divorce. The leading cause of divorce is heterosexual marriage. I don't see how the homosexual community can endanger marriage any more than the heterosexual community already is.
