Good thread mibi!
sully800 wrote:I'm new here but I think both the minimum score of 500 and a max point transfer of 100 are good simple solutions. I prefer the max point transfer because then you are not creating new points if a person is stuck at 500.
One of the main arguments against the base score of 500 seems faulty to me though. People said that with inflation of points, the base would eventually need to be increased. However even if people got up to 10,000 and lost to a 500 point person they would still only lose 400 points. That wouldn't be a big enough deal to make people purposefully try to stay at 500, because it wouldn't have a huge effect. Theres an enormous difference between having a score of 1, 2, or 3 and winning a game. There is relatively little difference between having a score of 500, 750 or 1000 and losing a game. A base of 500 would be sufficient and would work fine as a long term plan in my opinion. I still prefer the 100 point cap but either solution would work very well.
Also, I would like to vehemently disagree with the suggestion to reward 2nd place for good play. I understand that 2nd place may have played better than 6th, but Risk (well, CC) is a game of conquest and domination. It is not a matter of when you were defeated or how close you were to escape being dominated. In the end if you lose, you lose and I don't think anyone but the winner deserves a reward. If that system were to change, people would begin to play for second place when they realize they can't win. And if your goal is to get second place I think you undermine the entire purpose and strategy of the game, not to mention dragging out the result because this strategy would probably consist of stock piling armies and staying out of harms way with no ambition to win the game. I know some 2nd place finishers may have gotten unlucky or feel they played really well, but if the goal is to win and your strategy relies on that goal then people should not be rewarded if they don't win.
Sorry for the rant

Christians are ridiculed because they should be. Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, Christians gotta be mocked.

My first post in the forums was sadly in the C&A:
Postby truly_tasha on Tue Oct 09, 2007 12:16 am
I was also in this game 986495 with richardgarr, melkor and BALLYKAT a.k.a crybaby. When BALLYKAT realized that he was about to be taken out he accused us all of cheating. I left him negative feedback which he responded to. He then left me negative feedback which I responded to. He has since erased his neg fb which erases my response and then he added his neg fb again which I have responded to AGAIN. I have opened a ticket to have this feedback removed as it is retalitory in nature and uncalled for. He sent me the following pm:
From: BALLYKAT
To: truly_tasha

Subject: you fucking dirty cunt
Quote message
I hope you rot ion hell you fucking dushbag. Your a little dirty cheating cocksucking whore. You call me a cry baby after what you just did you fucking bitch
Very uncalled for. I have looked at his previous games and this is not the first time he has done this. He is a PSYCHO in my books.
Thankfully my experience here at CC has improved since then

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=42746&p=1101590#p1101590I have a problem with the so called archived games. once a game is archived, all info. about game should be recorded as is, for posterity. but for some reason it is not. i am specifically referring to players ranks. why, may i ask, are ranks updated in archived games. ? this defeats the whole purpose of the archive. if you wanted to study someones game history, you would want to know the exact info at time of game. when the ranks are updated daily, the archive is corrupted, and this info. is lost. and the entire archive is made useless.

2) That. Is funny as. Hell!

My first ever post
[spoiler=TL,DR]
natty_dread wrote:Hello, I've not played very many games, but here's what I've gathered about playing 2.1 esc freestyle unlimited, 3-6 players:
The usual escalating tactic everyone knows, the chain reaction of killing and cashing cards... needs some alteration on 2.1. The map is so big, the bonuses are so big, that card cashes won't come into play for a long time. You can still pull off the chain reaction, but you need to time it perfectly.
While waiting for that time, you build your assets, try to grab as much territory and continents as you can. But don't spread yourself too thin, so it's too easy to break your bonuses. It's a delicate balance. Use your drop as your advantage, even if you get a bad drop, make the most you can from it.
Then, when you have a steady foothold and a steady income of troops, start harassing on your opponents. Break a bonus here, take a territory there.
As the time comes near, you pick the best target, and start preparing in advance for the slaughter. Position some troops strategically, but don't be too obvious. Do it subtly. Throw smoke, make your opponents think you're after someone else than you're really after.
Wait for it... wait for it... and bang!
You might not be able to sweep the whole board in one turn. It doesn't matter, just weaken the leftover opponent(s) enough so that you can get them the next turn. Beware, if any have 3 or more cards, they could have a set. Take precaution. Don't waste all your troops trying to take them out, if it starts to seem like you can't do it.
It could even take more than 2 turns. Ie. you kill the first one on 1 turn, reinforce to attack the next guy with the troops you got, then take the next guy on the next turn, go on to sweep most of the board, again reinforce/deploy in the right places, and on the 3rd turn you finish the job.
One more thing, with so many territories in the map, you really need to work out your attack routes in advance, that is, before you deploy. Otherwise you may find yourself in a situation where you would have had enough troops, but you end up advancing yourself into a corner...
The most important advice: THINK before you act!
Sorry if this is off topic because of the escalating thing, I'll play some flat rate 2.1 soon, I'll let you know what I think about it after.
