What about setting a turn limit and/or a domination victory condition?
For example, if a game reaches turn 50, domination victory condition gets enabled. From that moment, it won't be needed to conquer 100% of the territories. It will be enough to conquer 66% of territories.
Great idea, I impose this on all of my tournaments.
But a few ideas:
Sometimes, I have used or played in tournaments where the time limit means you "Go to BOB" and use the relative strength indicator. Only works for sunny though.
Or, I have played in tournaments where after a certain number of rounds the game just ends, no points for anyone.
How does the strength indicator even work? I've never trusted it...
From the BOB help screen:
About the player strength indicator
Player strength is calculated using the following formula:
Total Armies + (Armies Due x Missed Turns) + (Probability of Holding Card Set x Card Set Value) - (2/3 x Territories Held)
I think I like that idea after a set number of rounds. Especially since we have some large complex maps (such as Conquer Man) chosen for the tourney already. Thanks for pointing that out, Oliver. I'm going to watch the current Conquer Man game and see how that's looking, I'm not sure that 50 rounds is long enough for a clear winner to emerge on that map. Comments?

If they would quit attacking me, I could have it won in about 15 more turns.
Barring that, I think it will be a while, since escalating spoils + AA means it should be easy for folks to cash and be back in the game. We eliminated 2 people simply by blocking all their card spots, but that will be difficult with only 3 players and the number of borders possible on the conquerman map.
I think maybe you should require hyooge maps like conquer man and world 2.1 be flat rate or no spoils. Escalating is great on those maps if you have the ability to sweep, but with AA it makes for a looooooong game.

What's the longest AA game we've played to date?
I just checked up - didn't go through the entire thread but in the last tournament, the longest game went 72 rounds, and after that there were a couple in the 50s, but most ended around 20 or so.
I think 75 is a very fair limit as we haven't hit that yet, but 60 would work as well (only one game over that), and 50 is even reasonable as by that point the winner would be readily apparent.
I'm not an entire fan of the BOB strength indicator because it favours fewer territories, which especially in AA, is not a true indicator of strength. I've seen it where a player with more troops on more territories is "weaker" than an opposing player according to BOB.

I am not sure if foggy is a good idea. It would be extremely difficult to check that the AA rule is being followed...

Right, foggy is not allowed. For people that have requested foggy, I've PMd them to find out what their preferences are for sunny. We can play some foggy games in the callouts thread if desired, but fog isn't going to be allowed in this tourney.

How are you getting the scores? Neither of the games I'm in are finished yet. Also I think the map names at the bottom are incorrect.

Games are not finished. Those are points scored up to the date. That is why you only have 5 points in one game (like the other two survivors in the game) and 1 in the other (because everybody is alive yet)
I will fix map names. Thanks for telling about that.

Ah, ok, I see what you mean. I didn't look at anybody else's scores, in my typically narcissistic fashion.
Thanks!

I hadn't checked on that game and nobody had PMd me. I've got a PM out to Etropal about this and will update the thread when I have talked to him.
