he's some info to newbie's who jump on bandwagons because of Ovechkin - soft defenses lose during the playoffs LOL

I've already said what I've needed to say in a different place. I'm not a huge fan of the regular forums these days.

Your statement about "newbie's who jump on bandwagons because of Ovechkin" makes no sense and you sound like a fucking retarded kid (aka colton or targetman) when you type like that.

And yeah, I think I've known for the last 3 years that soft defenses lose during the playoffs... you think I'm not watching?

Go shove another fucking Philly cheesesteak down your piehole and shut the f*ck up.

LOL, no need for Cap fans to cry
i have to laugh at Cap fans, the sense of entitlement they possessed because of a great regular season is pathetic.
It's clear they nothing about playoff hockey. Do you know how many times the Flyers had great regular seasons only to disappoint during the playoffs????
The caps are built for putting up great stats but not for playoff hockey. They are incredibly soft on defense. their best defeseman Green makes Paul Coffey look like Scott Stevens on the defensive end.
all references that mean nothing to majority of Cap fans who only started following the team a couple years ago, LOL. but its understandable they nothing about playoff hockey.

on this board i recall a Cap fan telling me how much better they were the Flyers. I brought up the acquisition of Chris Pronger but he dismissed that as meaningless in light of the Knuble acquisition. LOL. You can make the argument that Chris Pronger has been the best playoff player since the lockout. Pronger imo is the best player left during the playoffs. If u have a dman like Pronger playing 31 minutes a game and then combine that with Timonen playing nearly half the game on another pairing then you have a huge advantage over the other team. pronger, timonen, carle, and coburn is the best top 4 dmen unit in the league then combine that with richards, carter (returning this round), briere, gagne, giroux, improved play of Hartnell, and the emergence of JVR then you have a team that is a real contender

much more so than a team playing a flashy individual game with no grittiness.

Flyers vs. Sharks. I wouldn't take my prediction too seriously though. I know practically nothing about the two teams.

everyone is already saying the Flyers will have no shot in the finals (if they win the montreal series)

its people basing too much on the NHL's meaningless regular season. the flyers were picked by many to win the cup before the season so its not like they're some talentless fluky team. if you look at the flyers roster tthe talent is up there with any team in the league.

i remember during 1997 the Flyers had a great regular season, Detroit had a poor one barely over .500. most people seemed to favor the Flyers but i knew detroit was the better team and going to win.

They Flyers remind me of the Red Sox when they came back in 2004 and ran over the Cardinals. I think if they sweep the Canadiens, they'll sweep whoever wins in the West.

Red Wings fan here, who remembers that season.
Detroit went 38–26–18 in the regular season (94 pts), 2nd best record in their division, 3rd in the conference.

Philly went 45–24–13 (103 pts) in the regular season, 2nd best in their division.

The Wings hardly had what could be considered a "poor season". They were a good team, and had been at or near the top of the league since the '93-'94 campaign. So let's not exaggerate TOO much, right? ;)

for some reason i always thought Detroit only had 88 pts
i just remember the perception that detroit had underachieved during the regular season
and alot of people thought the Flyers were going to win the series but it was clear to me that Detroit was finally going to get the monkey of their backs and the win cup.

i may be biased but im getting the same feeling about this Flyer team.
on a side note since 1973 the Flyers have made 16 Conference Finals (or semi-finals as they were called during the 70's) out of 37 years. that has to be near the top of any franchise in all 4 major sports - lakers, dallas cowboys, steelers, celtics, yankees, maybe montreal? - only frnachises that i can imagine being near that amount

That's because the previous season, they had 131 points and set the NHL wins mark with 62 victories. So with a 37 point drop, you could say they underachieved, but were hardly a less-than team. But yes, common perception was that the Flyers would be the team to sweep, not be swept.

This Flyers team scares me. They are playing so well right now. I am hoping for the Habs as my son is a Habs fan, but I don't think they can do it again for a third season in a row (though watch them prove everyone wrong once again...). The Sharks I never believed in. The Blackhawks...oh the Blackhawks. They were my childhood team. I idolized the likes of Murray Bannerman, Darren Pang, Alain Chevrier and Ed Belfour. I lived and breathed the Hawks when I was a kid. Rode the wave of excitement as they set a record for playoff wins making it to the finals only to lose to the Pens who tied the record for playoff wins in sweeping the Hawks. It would be okay if they won...there would be a small part of me that would be happy for my old team. Then back to cheering for my Senators...who also let me down in the finals a few years ago.

no doubt in my mind flyers beat montreal

but i changed my mind about chicago after watching the game tonight
flyers have no shot against chicago

chicago will sweep the flyers
i guess i'll probably never see the Flyters win the cup

Go kill yourself now. Typical ding dong Philly fan giving the knowledgeable ones a bad rep.

We played chicago once this year & beat them 3-2. How you or anyone could declare them or us a winner from that and also to just assume we beat Montreal makes you a ding dong.

It is likely now to be Chicago and Philadelphia for the Cup. Guess I'll be rooting on Philly.

im just being a little coy

all the hockey analysts are giving the Flyers no shot to beat Chicago. I wasnt aware that chicago had transformed into the 1976 Montreal Canadians and the 1985 Edmonton Oilers.

im hoping for a 1995 scenario - the "weak" eastern team (NJ) against the invincible western juggernaut

well honestly, I wouldn't call the Blackhawks a "Juggernaut", San Jose is really good. More of the clash of the Titans there. :) Oh...ok call them the Juggernaut!

I don't see Montreal or San Jose erasing these deficits to advance,
but then again... nothing is impossible, just unlikely.

The World Championships in Germany have been very entertaining
games. Yesterday the over-achieving hosts, who only qualified to be
here by being the host nation, turned over a puck in the Russian zone
and then Datsyuk made them pay. Breaking a 2-2 tie with 1:50 left
in the 3rd Period. Russia now meet the Czech Republic for the Gold
Medal. The Czechs tied up their semi-final game against the Swiss
with :10 to play and after a scoreless OT full of close scoring chances
for both teams... prevailed in a shoot out.

Russia has 14 players from the Vancouver Olympics team and the
Czech Republic has 12 rookies on theirs, but the Czechs lead 1-0
at the end of the 1st period.

These games have been more fun to watch than the Stanley Cup...
but I'm looking forward to a Flyers/Blackhawks final. Should be good.

Yeah, I think it's pretty funny that the Stanley Cup is played at the same time as the World Championships. I mean the U.S. always has to be > than the World...lol

On the other hand, many of the NHL players who lose in the early rounds of the Stanley Cup go over and play in the World Championships.

I asked my dad (Native German) about the idea of "Is a local championship more important to a player than the World one?" I asked this because you bring up a great point with the World Hockey one, but this came up when we were watching the Europe soccer championship. Many of these players say that this is more important to them than the World Cup in South Africa.

Kind of interesting.

Czech Republic 2 Russia 1 final
Ends a 27 game World Hockey win streak for a dominant Russian team
and a their bid for 3 straight World Titles.

meanwhile... Blackhawks and Sharks 2-2 start of the 3rd.
