Suicide attacks happen partly because there is no incentive to keep playing if someone gets to a weak position and thinks that he/she has no chance to win the game. Points are awarded to the winner, and everyone else loses points (apart from terminator games) according to the same formula, regardless if they were eliminated in the 2nd round due to their poor strategies or they kept fighting till round 100, and only the winner of the game could eliminate them. (In general, players with good strategies have a better chance to win a game or at least being eliminated late than players with not so good strategies.)
I think that if the order of the elimination was taken into account when calculating the points someone loses after being eliminated, not only a fairer system could be created, but it would also decrease the number of suicide attacks and deadbeats, because everyone would have an incentive to keep playing.
Please consider the related suggestion: Different -points depending on when you were eliminated

I think the major reason why people suicide is because they sort of get railroaded in their thinking and commit themselves too heavily to one plan of attack. This has a lot to do with the notion that you need to go for the "Australia" on the map as quickly as possible and hold it. I've seen lots of players do this, they calculate which region gives the best ratio of added troops/positions to defend and go for it single-mindedly until it belongs to them or they have killed themselves in the attempt. It's not always their fault even, most of the time it is because they simply fail to take into account that EVERYONE else in the game wants to do the same thing and are thus on the lookout for it.
Thats why I think that if you see a low-ranked suicider you should send them a message politely informing them of the mistake that they are making in their thinking and direct them to the strategy forums.

Ha, hope no one minds a lowly private posting here!
I actually search for games with higher ranking players, not just to learn their strategies, but to GET AWAY FROM THOSE BLOODY SUICIDES! They are beginning to get really annoying. I think it's even worse when one person has a ton of armies and is holding the choke point to Australia, while letting the last person run all over me!
Anyway, I find that playing large player games with high ranking players on large maps works especially well.
Just my $0.02 (Should have been saving for Premium! Why did I waste it?)

I agree with this part, but age is not necessarily an indicator of ability to think!
So instead of an age requirement, CC should establish some sort of intelligence meter. Think about it.
Meanwhile, remember: the 'suicide' wouldn't be suicide if the dice favored that player. Sometimes a legitimate gamble fails, resulting in death, kind of like the jumpers whose parachutes didn't open after all. Should they take the jump or cower in the cockpit? They, not you, decide.

Sadly I can recall too many occasions where I had an even chance of taking victory only to get railroaded by the
dice intensity cubes. When that does happen to me, I nearly always make an apology to my intended victim for f'ing-up their game.

Its just like real life. You have poor leaders and great leaders, great leaders will try to use their best strategies to win games, while poor leaders will blindly send their troops to the deaths allowing a third party to come out on top.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this to you (RE: original post), but the solution is not to play with cooks, cadets and privates. They aren't going to stop doing it, if they did then they wouldn't be cooks, cadets and privates. So either accept it and figure their poor play will compensate, or don't play them.

If this may enlighten, I can tell you that one of the main reasons I suicide is REVENGE (I don't do it all that often, but on occasion I will). When starting early on in the game and everyone is settling in and I am establishing a small territory someone will attempt to preemptively choke my expansion. Now, I normally don't have a problem with that kind of action, but occasionally that allows my neighbor player on the next turn to virtually take me out of the game. In that case, I revenge-suicide the guy who took first blood and quickly move onto the next game. When all hope is lost, kamikaze.

Eh, not quite true. Newer players to the site are cooks, cadets, or privates because they are new to the site. Not necessarily because they suicide all the time. I'm still a private, and I have yet to suicide on anybody. (I know it says I joined in '08, which I did, but I never came back because I was looking for somewhere to play Risk online, that is, a faster paced game. I recently, like in the last month or two, came back and gave it another go. I'm quite liking it now.) So, you can't say don't play with any of them. How will they ever learn if they don't get to play against and see how the higher ranks play and win the games?

As you slowly move up the ranks, you will get invites from other high ranks. Once you get to this point all you need to do is not play totally stupid and you will get more. Basically it is a big network of friends in the higher ranks. Word of mouth is a great way to make a name for yourself. There are still high ranks in public games. I am one of those who floats around. Try you luck vs me in one of my 8 player games I start from time to time. If a higher rank tries to give you advice, might be worth listening to.

another thing you can do.. that I have not seen here...
Is set up an 8 man esc terminator match(s) manual .....
Bring the cooks in and show them who is the shit, and let them play their game. Look at my points on a map called brazil. I think I lead CC there.. I also do this on wales .... doing nothing but 8 man esc term manual .
The trick is, the noobs suicide for the bonus. They always do, always will. Use that to your advantage. Make two large stacks separate from each other on any map (not just brazil ) They will crash and bang for their bonus... by round 4 I usually have one term.. but round 8 I usually have taken all the terms.
message me if you have questions, Ill get you into one of my games and you can see how it is done.

btw if you try this and get good at it... you will get a some satisfaction being one of a handfull of CC players at a higher rank that has the balls to step into 8man esc terminator manual games... Most people above rank 1600ish avoid these types of games like a priest in a stripclub.

Well, I mean, I wasn't really looking for tips. I already pretty much know how to play the game, as I've been playing Risk since I was young. My dad loves this game and introduced my brother and myself to it at an early age. I was just pointing out the fact that not all cooks/cadets/privates are suiciders, as the poster implied. However, I could always use improvement and tips, etc. from the more experienced CC'ers. So, I would like to play some games with you guys. Invite me to any of them, I only have 4 slots but when I have a free slot I will join you.
