Different colour sickle & hammer?

Sickle for one, hammer for the other?

And make the anarchists a black & green flag, it's a common anarchist symbol IIRC...

Just going to pop in right quick and nitpick.

China
- It's AssAult, not Assult. You may need to resize your text, consequently.
- The title for the Chinese Revolution is thematically off. It sure as heck was no smooth transition, go for jagged edges that suggest the Revolution that it was.
- Coulda sworn it was Taipei, not Taipai.
Soviet Russia
- Cities and other symbols, good. Cheesy paint-like arrows, bad.
- The white lines (in both maps) make me think there's an additional attack route or bonus, when there's not as far as I can tell.

Now that I've got Cuba on its way, let's revive this one here: Chinese Civil War. Here's my plan, to finalize the gameplay on all four rise of communism maps and then address the graphcis at the same time to ensure some consistency. I am running into some problems as it looks like our favorite Thai mapmakers are tackling the Communist war in Vietnam quite well, and the fourth map in this series was going to be Vietnam. Fortunately, communism was very worldly and there's plenty of conflicts that could merit a CC map. Any suggestions are welcome, though I'm leaning towards the Korea conflict.

Anyway, here's the latest tweaked version of the Chinese Civil War. This map already had three versions behind it and two pages of crits, so I'm really hoping this will be a short time in the melting pot before it moves on.

I'd be happy to see this one move on. The Korean War, btw, would be extremely cool... the UN and South Korea vs. China and North Korea would include a lot of nationalities.

How about an overall map of communism at its zenith?

It could include parts of the middle east / africa / south america where communist influence / arms etc were prevelant? On the gameplay side, some of this influence could be guerillas etc.

Significant conflict areas could also have gameplay significance (vietnam, korea etc).

I can post a few images for an idea ?

It would basically be a cool Cold War map.

Thanks Marshall... I've been toying with the idea of the Korean War map and how to include all the foreign elements... I'm thinking a regional map would be best.

I say go for it Tefon, though, I'd recommend posting it in a new thread.

As a whole, the map looks awesome.
However, I think you should consider including Hainan Island. It's significance lies in the that the successful capture of Hainan gave the Communists more military courage to attempt an assault of Taiwan in order to wipe out the KMT completely, as it was one of the few amphibious assaults that the Communists made in the entire war.
Also, Chongqing seems to be something important missing from this map. The city was the last mainland Chinese capital for the KMT.

I'll post as an idea - was kinda hoping you'd take it up to finish your series though.

I'm open to that idea. Draw up the gameplay and I'll see what I can do.

@ dj Teflon, sure, just PM it to me when you get the chance and we'll go from there.

Here's the updated image including Chongqing... Hainan doesn't seem to have the room necessary, so regretfully I will be omitting it.

Ok, here's an update based on some recommendations from Tacktix and a few others... Everything should be a little more self-explanatory. This map also takes more after what I've designed on Russian Revolution and Cuba.

In the right legend, you mention 'Game +1 for holding each area that declared independence regions and cities' ---something seems off about this when reading it aloud.

Related, the nomenclature of the map mentions territories in other legends---are these different than the 'regions' mentioned in the above legend?

Hmm... good point. It should read "gain +1 for each area that declared independence" since none of them have any cities. The use of the term regions would be gone as well.

Here's an update factoring in Andy's suggestion.

Other things to consider... do I have too many cities?

Maybe... 3 cities in Sichuan seems a bit redundant, when they all have the same functionality... remove 2 from there. Same with Zhijiang and Chongqing, remove one of them. Xiamen in Fujian seems unnecessary to me, as well. That's 4 cities to cut down, I think it'll look better after that.

I count 16 'non-aligned' cities, 8 Nationalist cities and 8 Communist cities. That actually seems like a very balanced spread, which appeals to my sense of symmetry.

Is there an upside to reducing the number of cities? Does the map look cluttered to you natty, because for me it seems fine but then I've been looking at The Struggle For Oil map recently ;)

Certainly you wouldn't want to reduce the number of cities too far, as they are the primary source of bonus income on the map, particularly for the Nationalists.

And also having multiple cities on one province actually does serve a purpose, since it makes taking the province more useful than others, a means of defending 3 cities at once (if there are no railroads, which is the case with Sichuan). So, knowing very little of Chinese geography in the 1940's, was Sichuan an important province? If so, I'd say keep it as it is... it is as easily accessed by the Communists as the Nationalists so it really doesn't imbalance anything. Plus, I rather think that Mao is getting the shaft right now when compared with the starting positions of his fellow Communist generals.

It's not a big issue though. I'm fine with keeping all the cities. But if IH wants to cut them down, I have given my suggestions on which ones should be going.

Well, you make a good point Marshal.

Maybe a reduction of cities isn't a good idea, I was just floating it out there because I'm worried it might be a little crowded.

As for Mao... maybe reducing the river so he can have access to Inner Mongolia and later Manchuria? Perhaps a one way attack over the river? I think I'd prefer a reduction of the river.

I'm not particularly familiar with the geography, but if a reduction of the river was appropriate I think that would be simpler; and I agree that the Manchurian end-around would make Mao more viable.

Perhaps I missed it in my laziness, but what are the starting drop values for this map?

Commanders at 8
territories at 3
cities at... I'm not sure. Perhaps a neutral 1 or two.

Make them start at 2, at least make it a little hard to get them.
