Hmmm - how unrealistic do we want the future world to be though?

Don't start on the code just yet... gameplay needs to be balanced and the graphics need examination.
how do you find out if the gameplay is balanced without a trial?

Well, the map is more like a science fiction sort of with that moon ray and whatnote. Something along the lines of Woodboro would be quite cool in my opinion.

I second IH on the matter. Woodboro over Arms Race. I think the map would benefit more graphically with a more light-hearted style than a serious one.

so I am unclear on the woodborough idea. my intention was to have an arms race/lunar war feel. I cant visualize what my map would look like "woodboroughized". It's all solid colors on a drawn map. mine is overlayed on a real map. how do you suggest I incorporate the 2? before this idea came across, I had a few changes. so here is the next in the updates.

The Woodboro idea is suggesting you graphically go for brighter colours, and I guess gameplay-wise it means a system which doesn't involve the big bonus.
A question of taste - I personally think you can stick with your intended style - sci-fi but not too far fetched or comic-parodied?
I'm guessing a balance would involve lighter colours and more chunky iconic symbols / spaceships?

You could have the same gameplay for all I'm concerned, I just think that a realistic depiction of all this is less interesting than a version that has 'more fun with itself'---like Woodboro, or maybe even Duck and Cover.
Here are some more comparisons that I hope might be helpful in explaining what I see:

Did you draw the world map yourself?

I used a satelite image map and cut it apart to reverse the continents. then touched it up where needed.

Where did you get the satellite image? Any images used in a map must be free of copyright.

I am jumping in a bit late on this but I really like the gameplay potential of this map.

Question is, is the cartoonification, or not, of this map, essential to its progression? At this stage of development it seems a semi-minor point as the map-maker has a solid layout etc

So this is my interpretation of the "woodborough" idea. I only did the blue region to see the response. Let me know what you think.

DukeHazzard, just to let you know I sent out a Map Surveyors bulletin that asked for feedback on your map. Once that feedback (if any) has been answered, this map will likely move on to the Gameplay Workshop.
In anticipation of this, please update your first post with the latest version of your map. Newcomers to this thread will want to see your latest effort right away on the first post. Also, if you could provide as comprehensive of a summary as possible of the gameplay elements, that would make my job tremendously simpler.

See the mapmaking guides or PM if you're unsure what this should include.
Thanks, and keep up the good work, I love the direction you're going with this and look forward to playing this map

To my personal tastes, what you have done to the icons in America is ...
... cool !
Nice style, not too cartoony to be gimmicky but a nice bright change, well played.

The satellite photo of earth doesn't really fit with the drawn icons. Perhaps you could try something a bit more stylized for the world map. Maybe try doing something like the current Classic map.
Also, instead of spelling out the "cross-map attacks" you can just put small arrows on those territories, this will free some legend space and reduce the amount of text on the map.

Yeah, I'd say draw in a new world map rather than use the satellite image.

Hi DukeHazzard,
It's good to see new faces in the foundry, and you've made a bright start here. Having said that, I should advise you that you probably still have quite some way to go before the graphics will meet the current Conquer Club standard.
As for the map itself, the concept of some kind of Moon Race is fine. However, the first step you'll need to negotiate is the gameplay workshop, which means that you need to give some serious consideration to how things will pan out in a game... At a glance, the bonuses look a little bit high, and I'm really not too sure how well the "race to the moon" concept will transfer into the gameplay (other than providing an almost unholdable +50 bonus).
I think there is a lot of potential here, but would like to understand how the map concept is going to drive forward the development of the map. As I said earlier, you've made a bright start, and I'd like to be assured that there's enough here to make a blast-off worthwhile

I haven't decided if I'm going to change the map yet, but am still considering it. And I'm still working on other points on the map, so I may not get to it for a while. But I won't forget about the suggestion. Thanks
