I fully agree with you that the auto assault, otherwise known as the "Right Click" is the best way to lose troops unnecessarily.
I have tried to tell that to others but I can't get through deaf ears.
When it works for you it works great but when it does not then it is like going into a casino and losing all of your vacation money at the tables.
You have to know how to use the auto assault for maximum efficiency. And even then I calculate a more or less a 15% percent success rate. But occasionally it is worth the try.
