this looks like a great concept!

Interesting representation, but I'm not sure the idea has much appeal. Fighting over internet sites via tubes just doesn't inspire much enthusiasm on my part.

What would make it appeal more?

I don't really know. Some sort of more specific theme maybe? How are we supposed to tackle this idea? Are we looking at through the eyes of a hacker, virus, investor? If none of those, then maybe consider choosing a specific direction and working from there. Just some quick ideas that popped into my head.

A browser, is what I think he had in mind and popular websites.

We should be able to anonymously edit the wikipedia bonus.

Add more web sites. The graphics is horrible, don't make it look like Super Mario.

You mean "unanimously"?
Yeah, I said that on page one.

Well, I watched strikesocom's progress as he made the first draft, and I think with some improvements and reworking to theme and graphics, this could turn out very nicely.

i think the theme just doesnt make any sense...why is the internet in warp tubes? why is it super mario themed?
i think you need to pick a theme that makes sense and stick with it, it just does not seem connected.
internet sites could be a good theme, warp tubes could be a good theme, but just not together...

They don't really warp, though.

To explain where he got the theme (for better or for worse) from, is the slightly crazy speach of Senator Ted Stevens where he describes the internet as "A series of tubes." This turned into a meme on a fair bit of sites.
I think that the theme can work if reinvented, probably without the Mario theme and with a bit more material than just the tubes. Having the tubes connect the sites may be a good idea, but I really don't know. Still, I think it's a fun theme that shouldn't be given up on.

Great idea, horrible execution. Start over. I'm all for keeping the Super Mario theme, though.
I think that instead of having Google, Wikipedia etc. be the continents, they should be the territs. So, there would be a continent called Search Engines which contains Google, Yahoo, Altavista etc. The largest ones of their sectors would be larger and have lots of borders.
I don't know what would the copyright issues be, but I doubt that a company can close it because it mentions it. That is to say, Google could close down a Google-themed map made without its permission, but can it close a map which just has a single territ named Google? I don't see GoldenPalace.com doing anything against USApocalypse.
Also, add webcomics. And Something Awful as a territory that borders every other territory. OK now I'm getting dilusional.
Lastly, the xfcd map is teh cool. Someone work on it.

Here's an idea of a map for the Internet, from the webcomic xkcd :
http://www.xkcd.com/c256.html
That would be an awesome map, without any changes. Would it be cheating to ask Randall Munroe if we could just use his drawing?

Check southeast of Myspace.

I think The Random One has it right. Switch up the theme and the territories.

I like the idea of an internet related map, but pairing that with Mario... It just doesn't work that well. I think it would be better if you could play off the World Wide Web thing a little or a computer or something that's at least a little related to the internet. Not sure how you would do it but maybe you could make the map like over the course of an internet browser like Firefox, or maybe a circuit board (more computer-ish than internet-ish), Or maybe do something in the shape of a world map with custom drawn continents and such.
I do like the Leroy Jenkins thing as well. And if your talking about the overall internet then you might want to take MMO's into consideration, i.e. a World of Warcraft continent.

THE INTERNET IS A SERIES OF TUBES!
Man, no one knows that meme. The OP might want to put a reference to it on the first post.

Or, if you use my idea, an MMO continent, containing WoW, Everquest, Runescape and so on and on and on and forth.
