While I grant that there is no lawless frontier nor threat of another power swooping in to overcome us Americans in this day and age, to abolish guns entirely is to also invite in a police state, hence my proposed solution to restrict it to those who are most likely to responsibly use them--a system which as I recall is already being used in other first-world nations.

Other than Switzerland, almost no one in any other developed nation is capable of legally owning a gun. In the UK, for example, they can only be owned by farmers (for reasons such as pest control) or for sport. I believe it's the same pretty much everywhere.
I mean, what other 'responsible uses' for guns can you think of?

As for responsible use, guns can still be used for self-defense. Just because it isn't a lawless wild west doesn't mean it erases criminals from existence. Crime will always exist in some form or another.

According to Wikipedia, self-defense is not accepted as a reason for buying a gun in Germany. In Germany you can basically only buy a guy for sporting use, or if you are an especially exposed person (e.g. money courier, politician) who is in more danger than the average citizen.

Not that I care about whether or not Americans want to kill each other, but the American reaction to 9/11 was to increase airport security to the point where crippled old ladies get their ass cracks fondled by security guards at bag inspection points. Clearly a need was felt to more tightly control the thing which could be used to cause mass death.

Oh...and Bttiko....they arent "Automatic"....they're "Semi-Automatic"...we can legally GET automatic weapons and I have shot them before....very cool....but I've never heard of anyone using their $5000 licensed, bonded, redtaped weapon for a crime.....well except for druglords and gangbangers that acquire them illegally.....anyway....yeah.

We have 24hr news broadcasting all around the world. Stop broadcasting such things and people will stop becoming immortalized.
Maybe they will make a Movie about it. The 'free' press is restricted in Military zones, why not restrict the Media from broadcasting such things. It is an easy fix.
I suppose it makes for a better story when somebody walks into a school with a homemade Bomb or Machete (oppose to a gun) and Extinguishes mass Human life. Go ahead and get rid of Guns, allow the Media to do there job.

After this interview, CNN goes straight to interviewing Allison Parker's father (who is not only a political activist but an actor) and he agrees with the murderer's father.
